Chapter Text
Izuku’s first memory was of his father, not that the memory was too clear. Though, he could clearly envision some things, his looming stature, how his face was always set in a scowl, the way his gaze could make even the bravest people want to shrink away.
When Izuku was young he remembered idolizing his father, wanting to be just like him. Izuku loved everything about him from what he could remember. But, that was all before his fourth birthday, the day he was diagnosed quirkless.
Diagnosed, Izuku hated when people used the word like that, it made him sound like he was sick, like he was lesser than just for not possessing a power like the rest of the population. Though, he might as well be, with how everyone treats him.
His father–If he could even call him that–had abandoned him and his mother afterwards. His mother was heartbroken, Izuku doesn’t remember that day well. All he knows is that after a fight between his parents in the kitchen, his mother had angrily told him that they would not be seeing his father for a couple of days.
Days turned to weeks.
Weeks turned to months.
At some point, Izuku stopped questioning when they would be seeing his father again. Every time he asked his mother he just got a sigh and a frustrated look.
Izuku’s mother had always been distant, she was never really paying attention when he spoke. It was always vacant looking smiles, and infrequent head nods. Izuku knew that he rambled a lot, he understood he was an annoying child.
He had asked her once if he was annoying, her response was, “What was that honey? I can’t hear you.” Her voice couldn’t have sounded more hollow, full of empty words.
She had grown increasingly more distant after his father’s disappearance however. Ever since he was eight, she took night shifts at the hospital she worked at, and stopped coming out of her room for breakfast before he had to go to school. Izuku had barely ever seen her after her work hours.
None of that mattered though. Izuku was fine, he was fine. He had a roof over him, he had clothes, money, food, everything that he could possibly need…. Well that may be a bit of a stretch, sometimes she forgot to leave grocery money. But, it was fine, some days he didn’t have to eat. He had food every other day though! It wasn’t negligence or anything! She was just busy, that was all.
Izuku had taken to doing odd jobs around town for extra money. He needed it for bandages, after all what was supposed to do when he came home with bleeding cuts and starburst burns? Bakugou-Kacchan, he reminded himself, had taken to using him as a quirk practice dummy.
Kacchan was the cutesy nickname he had given to Bakugou when they were younger. Kacchan had always been short-tempered and yelled at Izuku when he did something he didn’t like, which was everything, because after his diagnosis suddenly Izuku was stupid and worth nothing. The nickname “Kacchan” had always made Bakugou angry, but it wasn’t angry enough to get him to hurt Izuku, so he had taken to calling him that out of small bits of defiance. Just little things to annoy Kacchan sometimes.
Suddenly last month, Aldera Junior High was shut down for unknown reasons, but Izuku knew. A kid from some rich family, who had a weak quirk, started at Aldera at the beginning of the year. It only took a couple months for kids to start bullying her. After that it took a couple months for her parents to find out, they sued the school because they “failed to respect discrimination laws.”
Izuku was happy, of course he was, the place that had been his personal hell for literal years, had been destroyed, he never had to go back. But, that didn’t mean that he could simply not go to school. As amazing as that would be, it was sadly a requirement for him to go to school.
So now he kind of had to find a new school. Of course his mom was no help, when he finally was able to catch her when she got up for meals, he asked her about it. She said to find a school near them and as his mom put it, “Bring her the damn paperwork” when he inevitably needed to. That went way easier than he thought it would.
Izuku stayed up past when he usually would, researching schools that were nearby. Izuku looked at his bright screen, the closest school to him was some place called Nabu Junior High. He guessed that would be where he started school after winter break.
Shinsou Hitoshi was not looking forward to today. It was the first day back from winter break, and he was already tired of school. The day hadn’t even started yet.
His break had been good, it was nice spending Christmas at home with his dad and papa. It was truly a nice experience, winter wasn’t Hitoshi’s favorite season, but it was close. It had one of the longest breaks of the school year, and as if it couldn’t get better, both of his dads were home to spend it with him.
Summer was also great because the break was long, but there weren't many holidays in summer so that meant that both his parents still had to go to work.
Hitoshi had been adopted by Aizawa Shouta and Yamada Hizashi when he was nine. His real parents were in a car crash when he was six, and he ended up in the foster system. He bounced around homes for three years because no one wanted a child with a so-called “Villainous quirk”, whatever that meant.
Both of his adoptive parents were great though. They were both pro heroes and teachers at UA. His father Yamada Hizashi had a radio station that he hosted as the pro hero Present Mic. His other father, Aizawa Shouta, was an underground hero. Hitoshi thought that was the coolest, ever since he was adopted by them he wanted to be just like him.
Hitoshi was heading to school when he saw this green kid walking the same way across the street from him. Huh. He hadn’t seen that kid at school before, the kid was short, but he looked to be around his age, and he was wearing the same school uniform as Hitoshi. The kid looked sad, he had headphones in and was walking with his head down. The kid didn’t have an umbrella even though it was pouring outside.
The teachers didn’t say anything about a new student?.....Did they? I know I have tendencies to zone out and talk to Denki during class but…. If I missed an announcement then…. Damn..Didn’t know I was that bad….
Just as he arrived at the gate Hitoshi was pulled out of his thoughts by the green kid suddenly staring right back at him.
Hitoshi blushed in embarrassment, he got caught staring like a weirdo at some random new kid. Uggghhhh, Denki would so make fun of him if he could see Hitoshi now. Hitoshi broke eye contact with the green kid before he could further embarrass himself.
Hitoshi walked into class and sat at his desk, the green haired kid had turned and walked off in the direction of the counselor’s office, probably to get his schedule.
The teacher called the class to attention and started going over the day’s announcements.
“Alright, so today you will have a substitute in your afternoon classes, the teachers all have a meeting this afternoon, something about budget cuts,” the teacher drawled in his boring monotone voice.
“Oh, yes we also have a new student named, Izuku Midoriya. He will be here in a little bit-” The teacher paused for a low yawn, while the class let out excited chatter. “Yeah, yeah, anyways, do the work that you were assigned yesterday. That's all from me.”
The teacher left the podium and sat down at his desk.
So I was right, he is a new kid... Interesting...
“Hey Toshi! Whatcha doing” Denki asked, pulling his chair up next to Hitoshi’s desk.
“I’m doing the assignment…Like what you should be doing.” Hitoshi responded in a sarcastic tone.
“Uh huh, yeah but that’s boring,” Denki groaned. “So,” He said, drawing out the o sound. “What do you think the new kid will be like?”
“I saw him on the walk here, the kid looked sad, honestly.”
“Toshi, Toshi, we should totally be his friend!”
“I dunno man, he looked like a pretty anxious kid to me, I mean we should probably just leave the poor guy alone.”
“But that’s what friends are for!” Denki said in his cheeky voice, batting his eyelashes. “Please Toshi!”
“I guess we could-”
“Yes! Thank you!”
Hitoshi sighed and got back to his work. He got the feeling that this was the start of many days of chaos. What had he just agreed to?..
Aizawa Shouta was on his way to UA. He was in the car sipping at his steaming coffee and his husband was blasting loud 80s music. If anyone asked Shouta he would say hated Present Mic, but anyone who was close enough to read him knew that that was complete and utter bullshit. Shouta loved his husband and his son, Shinsou Hitoshi. Hitoshi had asked to keep his original family name, who was Shouta to deny him? It certainly wasn't some monster.
“Shou! Remember this song?” Zashi turned up the radio to Shouta’s displeasure.
“Yes, sadly I do.” Shouta grumbled, it was too early for this. Shouta just wanted to climb back into his warm bed, where he could sleep and cuddle with kitties. Yes he knows how that sounds, his husband mercilessly teases him for it at every chance he gets.
When they arrive at UA, Shouta gets a quick peck on the cheek from his husband before they say goodbye and head in opposite directions. Shouta uses the backdoor to the teachers lounge and is greeted by Vlad King. Vlad….the one man who he might despise more than he despised mornings. Shouta flips him off and heads to the couch in the corner of the room and pulls out his yellow sleeping bag while Vlad sputters at him.
Shouta knows his sleeping bad is atrocious, he likes it that way. It's a manipulation tactic, it makes people pause and stare, it makes them pause, it makes them quiet. He also uses it to fake sleep, in past years Shouta would listen in on his student’s conversations, usually they were just teenage nonsense, like most of their chatter was, but this year he had expelled his entire class. They all had no potential, the other teachers can say whatever they want to say but Shouta is trying to raise decent human beings and heroes, if they have no potential they will not succeed in the real world.
“Hey Shouta!” Came Nemuri’s annoying voice. She always used a tone that she knew would annoy him.
“Nemuri.” He grumbled.
Nemuri was a coworker he had been friends with since his first year of UA. She was in the year above him, Zashi, and .....Oboro. Oboro was a friend who he was practically adopted by in his first year. Oboro died in a training accident in their second year. Shouta didn’t like to think about that day, but he and his friends from his time at UA still celebrated his birthday. Shaking his head he turned his attention back to Nemuri.
“As I was saying!” She said with an excited look in her eyes. “Emi invited me on our second date yesterday!”
“Mm” Shouta hummed in response.
“She’s so pretty, I’m so happy, I–” Shouta usually tunes out Nemuri’s rambles about her new girlfriend, and his personal demon. Fukukado Emi had been teasing him about them getting married ever since he went pro, which he didn’t get since they were both gay.
“Also Nedzu wanted to talk to you after school.” Nemuri said, and he didn’t have to look at her face to know she was smirking.
Of Course the rat bastard wanted to see him. His boss was someone more sadistic than him, always giving jobs to Shouta since he was free ever since he expelled his whole class.
After his meeting with the chimera he decided to go to the café down the street for the best coffee he has ever tasted. He shot a text to his husband, telling him his plan and asking if he wanted any. Then, he started his walk to the café. On the way there he stumbled across some kids beating up a younger green kid.
“Hey! Stop it,” Wow, great job Shouta, a homeless looking man yelling at some bullies to stop would surely get them to go away.
“And what if we don’t? What are you going to do about it?” One of the taller kids with brown hair asked in a taunting voice.
“Well first I’ll call the cops and you will have your parents called,” One of the kids scoffed at him. “And then I’ll have you blacklisted from any good highschool you apply to.”
“Yeah, and what makes you think you can do that?” The other kid asked with malice in his voice.
Shouta simply glared and pulled out his hero license. The kids' eyes widened at that. That’s what I thought, he thought with a smirk on his face. The kids started whispering and quickly ran away from him. Shouta hastily guided his attention to the green kid sitting on the ground looking at him with stars in his eyes.
After the kid seemingly got it together he quickly got up and dodged out of the alleyway.
“Wait, Kid!” Shouta called after him. Shouta couldn’t let him leave, the kid was hurt badly. He rounded the alleyway corner but the kid was already gone. Somewhere in the back of his mind that kid reminded him of himself. Kami, Shouta hoped the kid was nothing like him, but the kid’s arms that were adorned with scars and bruises said otherwise.
