Work Text:
Amber was in her room reading her favorite book, well it was a manga but she always said it was a book. She had her reading glasses on as she usually did. This was her time of the day to relax and have some alone time, with a nice cup of hot green tee on her nightstand, huddled into all of her soft pillows, and a nice book. Amber sighed a bit with a soft smile as she was about to start reading when suddenly a loud bang made her flinch.
Amber looked over to see Ray standing in the door frame of her room, he developed a habit of slamming her door open whenever he wanted to ever since they kissed. Amber found it cute and incredibly annoying at the same time. She clutched her book tightly in her hands and tried not to throw it at her brother. "What?" Ray just grinned at his little sister when she snarled at him, he went up to her and grabbed her hand.
He yanged Amber out of her bed and shoved her over to her closet. Ray crossed his arms as his smile widened even more "Go but on a nice dress, we´re going out!" Ray looked extremely excited as he said that. Amber just looked at him for a moment before chuckling and patting his head, he was like a little puppy to her even though he was older than her.
Amber went over to her closet and picked out her favorite dress. It was a puffy dress that went just underneath her knees, it was white with a few different flowers on them. Amber put on the dress with a pair of flat shoes that were pastel pink and small strawberries on them, her hair was half-up half-down. She looked back over at her older brother and saw that he was in his usual more casual punk style, it wasn't her cup of tee but if Ray liked it so did she. Once she was done Ray grabbed his sisters hand and went out the front door with her.
Amber looked up at Ray a bit confused and noticed that he had his skateboard strapped to his back. At first, she thought the two of them would go on a cute date, but there was no way any sane person would bring a skateboard to a date. But Amber also knew that her brother was anything but sane. "where are we even going, Ray?" Amber tried her best not to sound annoyed, but she knew this wasn't going to be her perfect afternoon alone or at least a cute date as she thought it would be. Ray looked back at his little sister with a huge grin on his face "To the skatepark! I really wanna show ya´ some of my new tricks" Ray was being way too excited, he only started skateboarding about a week ago and was still horrible at it.
Ever since Ray started to pick up on skateboarding he came back home with a tone of bruises and scraps all over. Either their mom got Ray patched up or Amber had to do it. Amber already knew that today she had to once again play nurse for her big brother, so nothing new. She sadly wasn't as excited about the skatepark as he was, but Amber still smiled at her brother. She was happy that he had a hobby that made him this happy.
Once the two of them arrived at the skatepark Amber sat down on one of the benches, Ray got on top of one of the skating rapes and waved at his little sister. Amber just smiled at him and waved back. She was starting to have a bad feeling about this. What if Ray was about to break his arm or something? She wouldn't know what to do then.
Ray stood on top of the ramp and took a deep breath. In his mind, he was hyping himself up. Ray glanced down at Amber one more time "ok... I can do this, I need to impress her!" Ray thought to himself. His hands felt a little sweaty, but he blamed it on how warm it was today.
He slowly put down his skateboard and stepped on it. He put one foot on the skateboard and the other on the ground and pushed himself forward and off of the large skating ramp. As Amber watched she tensed up a bit and got ready to help her brother or maybe even call an ambulance.
Ray was speeding off of the ramp and there was a pipeline not too far away. Since he hasn't fallen off yet Ray got a bit too confident. He got into a squatting position on the skateboard and tried to jump on the pipe. But, he didn't jump up high enough with his skateboard and the head of his skateboard was wedged under the pipe.
His eyes widened and before Ray could even react he was already flying across the skatepark. Luckily he was able to block his head and face with his hands and arms just in time.
Amber got up from the bench and sprinted over to Ray who was just laying on the ground looking pathetic. He almost reminded Amber of a dead fish, but there sadly wasn't any time for snarky comments. She kneeled down next to Ray "Ray?! Are you alright? Nothing is broken, right!?" She had never seen her brother fly like that. He did a lot of stupid things, and this was one of them.
Amber looked at Rays arms and saw that his forearms were extremely scraped and even had a few cuts from small pebbles on the ground. Ray slowly moved his arms away from his face and just nodded his head. Amber knew that right now he was too shocked and filled with adrenalin to even feel the pain from his fall. She ran over to her purse and grabbed some disinfectant spray. She practically had to spray his whole arms.
Ray was shaking a bit from his adrenalin rush but seemed fine other ways. Amber grabbed his skateboard and helped her brother up.
She walked over to the bench she was first sitting on and made Ray sit on it. Amber gently caressed her brothers cheek, her face filled with worry. But Ray suddenly pretended as if he was absolutely fine and smirked at his sister and winked at her. That made her reasonably pissed off, but she was glad that he didn't seem to have any brain damage, except the one he was born with of course.
After a few minutes of sitting on the bench like this Amber got up "Well then, since you seem to be fine now, let's go home" She grabbed Rays skateboard and started walking. Amber didn't even look back, she knew her brother would follow her like the puppy he was. When she was a few steps away Amber heard a few hectic steps behind her and then Ray was already beside her.
Ray grabbed his sisters free hand and held it while the two of them walked home. He had a huge grin on his face. Even though he fell not even an hour ago he was still really proud of him. He secretly really just wanted Ambers attention and nothing more. At least that worked, even though he had to get hurt for it but that was worth it to him.
When they got home neither their mom nor dad was home. They were probably just at work.
Amber put Rays skateboard in the same place as always, in the hallway next to the shoe rack. She held Rays hand tightly as he yawned. Amber started to walk to Rays room and did dare to let go of his hand. She just made him lie down in his bed with her. She didn't bother to get changed, neither did Ray.
Once they were both in bed Ray pulled his little sister close to him and cuddled her. She snuggled her face into her brothers muscular chest, one hand resting on his chest and the other other her head like a small pillow. It didn't take long for the two of them to fall asleep. They have never been this comfortable while sleeping. Ray had his arms around his sisters slender frame like he was ready to protect her from anything in the world.
Once their parents came home, their mom took a look into Rays room to make sure he was asleep. She was surprised to see him cuddling with his younger sister. Their mom just chuckled and thought to herself "aww sibling love, how cute" She closed the door to her sons' room and quietly walked away again, and let them sleep in peace, not knowing the truth. But it might be better that way for all of them.
Maybe one day... maybe one day they'll tell their parents the truth about their relationship. But for now, everything was perfect the way it was, and they didn't want to change anything about that...
But their mom was right, the way they cuddled was adorable.
