Work Header

movie night

Summary:

Every year, winter comes at his new home; and every year, Lan Ge struggles to get used to it.

Thankfully, he has Fa Hua by his side.

Notes:

Set in a Modern!AU

Basically more or less a sick fic (bc in canon it‘s really hard to get them to be sick bc of plot reasons but in a modern AU I can do whatever I want!!! >:D)

P. S. It‘s not really a movie night but i like the sound of it better lmao

Work Text:

Snowflakes stuck to the window sill as the storm raged on, their rickety old heater not doing the best job at staving off the cold despite being turned to its max.

Lan Ge shivered and snuggled deeper into the thick blanket enveloping him. The temperature dropped so suddenly that his body was struggling to acclimate to the sudden change, little sniffs escaping as his nose tried to get used to the cold.

“Here.”

A warm mug of hot chocolate appeared in front of him, held aloft by a familiar hand. With a soft murmur of thanks, Lan Ge wiggled his hands out of his man-made cocoon and grabbed his favorite mug, meticulously wrapped in a thick cloth so that it wouldn’t burn his hands.

When another source of warmth finally sat beside him, Lan Ge wasted no time curling up close to it, letting out a happy sigh when his cheek was met with warmth. Carefully sipping on the drink in his hands, Lan Ge protested quietly as the series was paused by the person beside him, quieting down when an arm circled around him and gently rubbed warmth into his shoulder.

“Are you sure you don’t want to lie down in bed?”

Lan Ge slowly shook his head, mumbling, “M’fine. It’ll pass in a few hours.”

And he really was. As someone who was used to living in a more tropical part of the country,  this was just how his body unfortunately reacted every winter; and thankfully, it got better each year. You should’ve seen him the first time he experienced the harsh bitter cold—it was not something he wanted a repeat of.

“And besides—” A sniff. “—I’ve been looking forward to watching this series all week…”

When he heard no response, Lan Ge pursed his lips and turned to his best friend, who just looked at him with a raised brow. They stared each other down for a good minute before Fa Hua relented with a sigh.

“Fine,” he said flatly. “Suit yourself.”

They went back to watching the drama, little yawns leaving Lan Ge’s mouth every so often, his head nodding off as the night grew darker, eyes snapping awake whenever something interesting happened in the story.

His mug was almost empty when another hand caught it before it could topple over and spill, carefully lifting it from lax hands and placing it on the coffee table. As expected, Lan Ge was fast asleep before they even finished two episodes, lightly snoring beside Fa Hua. As soon as his hands were free, they blindly grabbed onto the nearest thing and latched on tight—Lan Ge pressed his face against the soft fabric of Fa Hua’s pullover and continued to snooze, blissfully unaware of the mess he almost made.

Fa Hua’s lips twitched in a small smile as he huffed, trying to shuffle their sitting arrangement now that Lan Ge was practically half-laying on top of him awkwardly, the snug yet too-narrow seat of their sofa not big enough to comfortably accommodate two adult men. Gently, he lowered them both so that Lan Ge was now laying properly on top of him, the blanket covering them both like a cozy icing on a cake.

Idiot.

As the now-gentle snow continued to fall outside their window, Fa Hua wrapped his arms around his roommate who was already deep asleep, mindlessly caressing the soft bristles of hair and started to close his eyes as well, the familiar fresh scent of his shampoo following him to sleep.
