Work Text:
Percy's throat felt raw.
Stomach acid had been corroding his throat since the moment he'd woken up that morning. Usually, he had an antiacid that made his reflux far more bearable but, due to unforeseen circumstances, he'd run out and hadn't yet had the opportunity to get more, so it had been pretty bad for the past few days.
He'd just finished swim team practice when, suddenly, he felt the exertion work its way up his throat. Wordlessly, he ran off to the nearest bathroom and promptly threw up stomach acid into the toilet.
It was hot and he felt as though his esophagus was being stabbed as he puked the bitter acid. His chest and stomach hurt from the strain and he felt absolutely miserable.
When he got home from school that day, he didn't even say 'Hi' to his mom or Paul. No, he immediately went to his room, turned on his humidifier, and set up an Iris message call.
When Annabeth's face came into view, he immediately felt a little bit better.
"What's up?" she asked. His call had come in a decent bit earlier than usual and he wasn't really one to do that. Something must've been off.
"My reflux has been really bad today" he told her, not even bothering to go through the whole song and dance of 'Nothing, I'm fine!' "I threw up after practice"
"Oh, geez" Annabeth winced slightly. "I'm sorry it's been so bad. Can you still not get your medication?"
"Haven't had time" Percy sighed. "It's okay, though. I can deal"
"You shouldn't have to"
"Mm"
"Is there anything I can do?" the blonde asked. Percy shrugged.
"Probably not" he replied. "Just wanted to complain"
"Well, you can always complain to me" she told him, sending them both into a brief fit of giggles. "I hope it gets better, for your sake"
"Me too" Percy agreed. "I love you"
"I love you too"
"...So, how was your day?"
"Oh, you would not believe what my roommate did earlier..."
