Law sighed softly as he stared up at the ceiling of the Barto Club's sleeping quarters. Normally, he would've slept out on the deck, but he was almost certain that he was losing brain cells just by listening to the deranged conversations of the sorry lot that crewed the Going Luffy-Senpai. Don't get him wrong, he was grateful for the ride, but the fact that they made it as far as they had was nothing short of a miracle. They should be studied in a lab. With their luck, they might stumble across the cure for cancer.
And with their brains, they might accidentally use it to season their dinners.
Personally, Law couldn't wait to get back to his own crew, and his own ship where everything made sense and no one left chewed gum all over the place. Where his plans were listened to and followed and he didn't have to put up with more than two idiots at a time.
Man, the Straw Hats were bad enough, but compared to Bartolomeo's crew, his allies were almost normal. Which was saying a lot.
The man shifted as he thought back on recent events. He still couldn't believe he was actually going back to his crew. That he made it out of Dressrosa, avenged Cora, and saw Doflamingo pummeled into the ground with a satisfying punch. The captain of the Heart Pirates had to admit that even his best plans hadn't had him making it out of there alive.
Law rolled onto his side and looked at the silhouette of the man who made it all possible sleeping peacefully next to him. There hadn't been enough beds for everyone, especially after taking one into a separate room for Robin, so everyone not on watch was sharing a bed. There were no sleeping arrangements, so it was just dumb luck that the allied captains had ended up together.
Luffy was passed out in almost the same position he was in when he collapsed backward onto the mattress, limbs spread out like a starfish. The only change was from when Law moved the other's arm above his head to make room for himself. He'd moved Luffy's leg, too, but it moved back into place and Law decided he could live with the small amount of bed his sleeping ally had oh, so generously left to him.
Law tried to study Luffy's face to determine if he subconsciously knew he was being a dick, but all he could make out was the younger captain's mouth, which was open slightly, small puffs of air slipping past his lips with each even breath.
Law stared at his face, eyes focusing on the outline of Luffy's lips. He reached over and gently brushed Luffy's hair out of his face. On a whim, the older man gently turned the other captain's head to face his, his thumb -- stopping momentarily over the scar under Luffy's eye. Where did he get it? Law found himself wondering. It looked old. And it was an odd shape. It curved strangely. Almost like whoever did it didn't want to damage the eye. Was it torture? An accident? A game gone wrong? A statement? From Law's point of view, any one of those could be the answer.
Luffy sucked in a sharp breath and blinked open his dark eyes, catching sight of Law, who froze with the dawning realizing that he had been stroking the other's cheek for a while now.
"Torao?" Luffy mumbled, half-asleep. "'S somethin' wrong?"
Law stared at him for what felt like forever. Instead of answering, he leaned forward, pulling Luffy's face closer, until their lips met in a soft kiss. Something in Law's chest lit up at the contact, stealing his breath away for a moment before he pulled back.
"Whuzzat for?" Luffy asked when they separated. Law hummed and went back to stroking Luffy's cheek, a small smile on his face. For some reason, he was feeling very relaxed.
"Just felt like it," he murmured, as he gazed into the younger man's dark eyes.
"M'kay," Luffy replied. He then rolled over to wind his limbs around Law, which, as anyone who'd spent enough time on the Sunny could attest, was a surefire way to get stuck for at least a few hours.
Law sighed, softly, and closed his eyes.
((The next morning, at breakfast, Luffy will remember what happened the night before and will stop eating to turn to Law and ask, "Did you kiss me last night?"
After spitting out a mouthful of coffee, Law's face will then turn a deep shade of red and he will sink lower in his seat, pulling the brim of his hat down so he won't have to meet any of the other Straw Hat's stares.))
