Chapter Text
“Adam, you’re going to miss the fireworks!” Adam’s friend yelled to him as he walked away sadly. “Adam!” Adam wanted to see the fireworks and spend time with his friends, but he couldn’t control his body anymore. A supernatural creature known as the Mind Flayer had taken control of his body, his free will, and soon, his life.
Adam knew that his fate was to die, his body melting into this evil creature to be a part of its hideous form, but he, and many others it targeted, couldn’t do anything about it.
He was dressed for the 4th of July festival, wearing an America-themed hat over his curly, medium-length, blonde hair and a navy blue tank top. He was sweating, which isn’t unusual for this time of year, but it was worse for him because the Mind Flayer’s control made him crave the cold and be affected more by the heat.
The Mind Flayer had control over his body, but his mind was fully aware of everything going on. This awareness worsened his upcoming demise since he could feel everything and knew what would happen.
As he slowly made his way to the abandoned building to meet his fate, his mind raced about the life he had in front of him that he wouldn’t get. He thought about everything he’d miss: the fireworks, growing up with his friends, his first year of high school that would have been next fall, prom, his family, meeting someone special, and even his secret that no one but him knows, and now no one will.
As he felt the summer wind blowing in his face and the loud noises of the festival, he prayed that something, anything, would happen to save him from his fate. As luck would have it, his prayers were answered.
“Sorry, kid, but you’re not going anywhere,” a tall, husky man blocked Adam’s path to the abandoned building. He had a distinct mustache and was wearing a Hawaiian shirt. Close by, there was a short woman with long hair and a balding man with dark hair.
The Mind Flayer was not to be stopped, however, as Adam tried to make his way past the man.
“You’re coming with us,” the man stated, grabbing Adam’s arm, holding it tightly, but not tight enough to hurt him.
“Get off of me!” Adam yelled in a demonic, inhuman voice. Externally, he resisted, but internally, Adam was ecstatic, hoping this stranger would save him from the horrible fate that awaited him.
“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” the man refused to let go, but Adam reached out and punched the man. He struck him, causing him to let the boy go, but the man didn’t react much, and he didn’t let that stop him.
The man grabbed both of Adam’s arms, causing him to thrash frantically, screaming at him. He was 14 years old, but he was surprisingly strong, and if anyone saw what was going on, they’d get the wrong idea about what was happening.
As Adam tried biting the man, he felt a sharp pinch in one of his arms. He looked over and noticed that the balding man had stuck a syringe in his arm, which had been emptied.
The area around him began to spin, and everything became blurry. He tried fighting, but his eyelids became heavy, and he felt his body go limp.
Within seconds, he passed out, collapsing into the man’s arms. The man nodded at the two people with him, and they rushed to his vehicle and took off toward their destination.
