Work Text:
It’s been a while since you and Kageyama had a full house.
The first ones to arrive were the third years, along with Tanaka and Kiyoko, followed by the second years and first years (formerly), and you can’t help but let the influx of memories you shared with the people during your highschool years.
In the living room, Nishinoya, loud as ever, tells his adventures across the world with Hinata voicing his awe every now and then along with Tanaka’s comments. Sawamura and Azumane try to quell down their excitement, but it always falls to deaf ears as Ennoshita and the others light the fires of enthusiasm of the two loud mouths. There is also Tsukishima, who is still as blunt as ever, and Yamaguchi and Yachi, who watch the bickers unfold with a smile.
You look at the setter. “It’s a shame Coach Ukai and Takeda-Sensei can’t make it.”
Kageyama groans beside you. “There’s many people already. I told you this is a bad idea.”
“Lighten up,” you say while elbowing him, “We don’t do this often. It’s nice to see them all together again like this.”
Kageyama glares at you. “I train with the idiot everyday. I’m sick of his face.”
A small coo breaks both of your attention and you stare at the familiar eyes of your baby. He has a full pout on his lips as he stares at you, begging for some attention.
Kageyama lets a small smile form on his lips. “He fed already?”
"Yep. Bit my nipple too hard too.”
His eyebrow twitches and he carries the toddler in his arms. “Don’t go hurting mama, alright?”
The toddler giggles, his arms swaying upwards.
“I still find it unbelievable that the King is the first one to get married and have a baby,” You turn to see Tsukishima with a smirk on his face, and everyone’s attention turns to you and your small family.
You pout and cross your arms, while Kageyama glares at his frenemy. “Not my fault you can’t have a girl on your own.”
“Burn!” Hinata says while pointing both his fingers at the taller man. The latter rolls his eyes and pokes the former’s head.
Sawamura laughs. “It makes sense though. They’ve been together for a long time,” he comments, and Sugawara adds, “I’m surprised you haven’t had a baby as soon as you got married.”
Kageyama blushes and you answer on his behalf, “Well, his career is at its peak and we wanted to be financially free before having a family. Baby formulas and diapers aren’t cheap, you know.”
Nishinoya walks up to you both with his hands on his chin. He leans in, looks at the toddler, then back with an exaggerated nod. “You both make a cute baby, too!” Everyone laughs at Nishinoya’s declaration and starts to gather near your family. Your son gurgles noises as he reaches for Kiyoko, who gladly takes him in her arms.
“Hello, young man,” Kiyoko softly says, swaying lightly.
Sawamura pokes his cheeks and says, “So how’s being a family man treating you Kageyama?”
The setter shrugs. “Tiring, but worth it. The first year was a bit hectic.”
“That’s why you took a break right?” Sugawara adds, wincing as the toddler reaches for his silver locks and pulls it. Kageyama reaches for his son’s arm, prying it away, saying, “Yeah. Our manager was kind enough not to disclose too much information. I don’t want my son being exposed to the public.”
It is Tanaka who speaks next. “Yeah. Crazy bunch of people are out there. You remember when Ushiwaka’s relationship got out there. The fans went nuts!”
Ennoshita shrugs, “I think it was also because Ushijima’s private life was a hot topic everyone wants to know. So when the pictures circulated, people were shocked and wanted gossip.”
“Kudos to Ushijima for standing his ground after that,” Azumane comments after a while, smiling when the toddler turns to him and happily screeches. “I would have cowered from the reporters.”
Nishinoya pats the former Ace’s back. “You’ve always been shy outside the court. It’s good you haven’t changed much. It’s enough that you scare people with your looks.”
Another round of laughter is heard, with your toddler being the loudest and adding a few syllables as if he is trying to add to the statement.
Hinata’s eyes sparkles in delight. “Oh! Has he been talking already? Or trying to say his first words? I bet the King here is teaching him ‘papa’ with a pitchy voice— ow!” Hinata rubs the back of his head and gives him a murderous look. “That hurt!”
“I don’t sound pitchy, Hinata-boke!’ Kageyama sneered with a dull blush on his cheeks. You laughed and stared at your son who is being held up high by Sugawara. “We’ve been teaching him a few words. But no, he hasn’t spoken at all.”
Yachi beams, hands curled up near her chest. “I’m sure he’ll speak in no time!”
“Can you send a video when that happens? I can’t get enough of how cute he is,” Yamaguchi adds.
“Hah! I bet kiddo’s first words here are gonna be mama!” Tanaka exclaims, hands on his hips.
“I don’t know, Kageyama has been pretty hands on too, so I would go for papa,” Narita observes with his hand on his chin and Kinoshita crosses his arms while nodding in agreement.
“I’m going for mama to piss the King here,” Tsukishima states, giving Kageyama a smirk and the setter feels a vein pop on his forehead.
“You’re not placing bets on my son’s first words.”
The words seem to pass through Nishinoya’s ear as he raise a finger, and the other hand on his hips. “It’s settled, then. The minimum amount would be 500 yen. All in favor of the words papa, raise your hands! Yachi, take notes!”
Kageyama starts to feel his blood pressure rise at his senpai’s declaration. His hands catch Yachi’s wrist with her phone in hand. “Don’t you dare—”
Hinata waves his 500 yen in front of Yachi. “I vote for mama, Yachi!”
“I go for papa—”
You and the third years sweat drop as the rest crowd Kageyama and Yachi. You can feel Kageyama’s annoyance shooting up the roof and you wonder what kind of punishment he’s going to do after this reunion. Sawamura chuckles and turns his attention to the toddler, “They’re having fun, aren’t they? Can you say those words? Say ma-ma. Pa-pa.” Sugawara beams and Azumane joins Sawamura in his antics, all while Kiyoko silently takes photos.
Deciding to spare your husband, you walk towards the crowd, trying to put an end to the setter’s misery and Yachi’s fear when you hear a strong syllable from your toddler’s mouth. You quickly return near your son. The third years are wide-eyed and looked at each other in amazement.
“You heard it too, right?” Sawamura says to Azumane, who nods vigorously.
Sugawara turns to you and gives you your toddler. With a seriousness you only see in him during plays, he says, “Hold him, I think today is the day.”
Before you can speak, you son loudly proclaims—
“Hi-”
“Oh my gosh, he’s doing it— EVERYONE SHUT UP!” Sugawara shouts, holding your shoulders. Kageyama nearly runs to you as you hold the toddler at eye level. Every single person in the room has gathered around, with you and Tobio huddling closely to your son.
“H-”
You and Tobio lean in. Yamaguchi and Yachi both have their phones recording for this moment.
“Hina-”
Hinata fights a scream, eyes sparkling at the anticipation from the toddler while the others close in to see this moment.
The toddler inhales deeply, his blue eyes suddenly sparkling as his first words tumbles out of his tiny mouth.
“Hin-ata Bok-eh!”
Silence.
“NOOO! Kageyama you jerk-?!”
“Get off me, you midget–!”
Chaos ensues— Tsukishima falling to his knees; Tanaka writhes on his back; and Nishinoya is beat-red; all bursting with laughter from Kageyama’s son’s first choices of words.
Sawamura and Azumane manage to hold back Hinata while laughing and comforting the short male, who is still spouting insults to the taller male.
Yachi stands in front of Kageyama (who by the way, is caged by Ennoshita and Yamaguchi), calming him down while the setter responded to Hinata with insults of his.Beside you, Sugawara and the other members of Karasuno either snicker, giggle, or sweatdrop from the scene in front of them. You giggle to yourself, before turning to your son and rocking him in your arms.
“Dear, just say, Hi-na-ta.” you try, trying to salvage your best friend's dignity.
But it seems like your husband is determined, albeit unconsciously, to be Hinata’s constant annoyance for life.
“Hina-ta Boke!” He exclaims once more, this time clearly and loudly.
Tsukishima, Tanaka, and Nishinoya, who just recovered from their laughing fit, can’t help but be overtaken by amusement and roar laughing once more. At this point, the team can see Hinata’s soul slowly ascending to heaven. His bright orange hair suddenly dimmer, skin duller, and parted lips dryer.
“How could you…” Hinata mutters, body slowly moving towards your direction in a zombie-like state.
You meekly smile. “Sorry. I never thought he’d manage to… caught up to that.”
Kageyama clicks his tongue. “Just leave be Hinata bo– eh… Hinata. He’ll probably forget it in a week’s time.”
Your son coos again, reaching towards Hinata with nothing but mischief in his eyes.
“Hina-ta Bok-eh! You-erk!”
At this point, you pinch your husband at his side while the rest of the Karasuno Alumni laugh and comfort Hinata as he finally falls to his knees, wailing about the injustice he receives from Kageyama and how he vows to beat his ass the next time he get pair up with Atsumu again.
Bonus
Atsumu sneezes— loudly.
Sakusa whips his head so fast with a glare that can figuratively burn the setter. He rummages through his sports bag to double his mask and sprays his space. “Explain your sneeze,” he growls, stepping away from Atsumu.
“Damn it, Sakusa. It is just the weather!” Atsumu whines.
“The weather is perfect, and don’t come close to me. I won’t hesitate to pour this alcohol down your throat.”
Atsumu’s whine grows louder, and he turns to his captain. “Sakusa is being mean to me again, Meian-san!”
Meian quickly packs up and strides to the door. “Good luck, buddy. We have a big game this weekend. Try to stay alive until then. I got to go back home to my girl.”
Atsumu stares after Meian, open mouthed before pointing at the door while looking at Sakusa. His face is full of surprise and confusion.
“Since when did Captain get a girl?”
Sakusa never answers, too focused on his phone. Atsumu sneaks up behind him and his eyes widen even furthur at the wallpaper he sees at the last minute before Sakusa locks his phone and literally runs away from him and to the door.
“Hold on, that’s a wedding pho— hey!” Atsumu tries to catch up to the spiker, but is met with a slam of the door. He groans.
“Kageyama’s a family man. Cap’s got a girl, and apparently Sakusa is married . What the hell, why am I the single one?”
