It's been two years since the ascension. In that time, a misguided Wyll tried to capture Astarion's consort to 'save' her from the vampire ascendant's 'evil' clutches. And even though Astarion successfully thwarted Wyll's plan, and his wife is now happily returned home, the vampire ascendant has become quite protective and paranoid regarding his consort--to the point of smothering her.
But that's OK, because Astarion's consort has a plan. A nice, simple plan that involves a lot of loving reassurance in the nostalgic place it all began: camp! Maybe if she shows him she's no longer a damsel in distress, he will stop being so overbearing. At least, that plan would have worked if they didn't camp right next to a dragon's nest.
