Work Text:
There is a child, hope, and light in their eyes
That glow was broken, once, twice, and many more to come
Shattered, cracked, like glass from a world of lies
Broken into dust, into dozens of pieces, with pain where it should not have come from
Once it is broken, glass cannot be fixed.
There is a child, barely eleven years old
They were hurt and harmed by many in the past
Now with dull clothes, once bright and bold
Dozens of cast, a light that never lasts
Shattered and crushed like a glass
Broken now, the glow, the light can never be fixed.
There is a teen, who just got to that point in life
Their once light eyes full of pain
Shoulders tense, past full of grief and strife
In the sunlight, they look like a dark storm full of rain
Broken further, into dust, the glass will be nevermore.
There is a teen, who has never once been loved
Who stares into a dark, round mirror with an ornate frame
That shows no reflection, but rather
Flames that turn even the stars to ash
Ice that imprisons even time
The great tree that swallows even the sky
They are told to fear not the power of darkness
Should they believe the mirror's claim?
The tiny shards, the broken light that cannot be fixed is scooped up by a hand.
There is a teen, lost in a new world
A twisted version of a fanciful Wonderland
With people who have light, pearled in their eyes
Maybe here, they can feel love from another land?
Those small jagged shards are held carefully as if they are something important.
There is a teen, who has seen too much
Stuck inside a Ramshackle with ghosts of the past
Never in their life has anyone given them a soft and gentle touch
Their new friends, at this, are aghast
The shards are cradled gently so they won't cut into the palm.
There is a teen, with a long-lost light in their eyes
But they are careful, for they may be hurt still
Time ever moving its hands clockwise; when will the other shoe drop?
The warmth of companionship cannot drive out the chill
Slowly, fused back together, piece by piece.
There is a teen, who is learning to heal
Friends, finally by their side
Scarlet eyes, Emerald eyes, Hazel eyes, Teal eyes, Eyes of Steel
Pain eventually put aside, a bound finally in their stride
Melting, carefully, becoming whole once more.
There is a teen who is finally loved
A light that once died is now again alive
Tugging at their lips, a smile that is beloved
Here, in the villains' world, they find their home, their life
Glass cannot be fixed once it is shattered.
But it can be made into something new.
And isn't that just as good?
