Work Text:

Mirage heard the opening notes of one of the compositions that Streetwise had found in the destroyed library in Lower Iacon and felt his spark ache. He shuttered his optics as the music played, and let himself be transported back for a few blissful moments.

He could see it in his mind's eye, the glittering guests at one of his parent's galas, dancing and drinking and sweeping him up in their movement and--

There was a large hand resting on top of his, and Mirage blinked himself back to the present. Trailbreaker was giving him an intense look. "You alright, Raj?"

His question made Mirage realize that he was crying, coolant tracking down his face in lines that must make him look a fright. He reached into his subspace for a cleaning cloth to wipe them away with as he gave the larger mech a weak smile. "They played this song, at my debutante ball."

"Ah." Trailbreaker nodded, and then pulled him into an unexpected hug. Mirage returned it without hesitation.

He might miss the home of his youth, and the finer things he had been forced to leave in the past, but the finest gems were worthless in comparison to this: the comfort of a dear friend.
