“This is nice, you know,” Blurr held up their linked hands with a smile. “But I was thinking after the race, we could go get some… No?”
Smokescreen was shaking his head and trying to pull away, and Blurr’s smile fell away immediately. “No, I’m sorry, I should have said something sooner but it was nice feeling normal and I just...”
“Hey.” Blurr turned so that he was standing in front of his …well, they hadn’t defined it out loud but he liked thinking of Smokey as his courtmate. “We don’t do anything you don’t want, remember? I respect your no.”
“Yeah.” Smokescreen’s vocalizer hitched with whatever he was feeling. “But it’s always going to be no, Blurr.”
Always going to be… OH. Well that put the lugnut on the other wheel, now didn’t it? “Okay, so it’s always no.”
“What?” Smokey sounded confused and a little lost, and it made his spark ache. He wondered how many times he’d been hurt because someone else couldn’t respect his boundaries.
“I know it’s surprising, especially considering how often I tell you that you’re hot as a smelter, but I’m not actually dating you so that you’ll frag me.”
Coolant welled up in Smokescreen’s optics and ran down his cheeks. Then he flung himself against Blurr’s chest and sobbed. Blurr wrapped his arms around his courtmate and held him, murmuring comforting words until the Praxian composed himself again. “Sorry. It’s just that no one’s ever said that before and I never thought you, of all mechs, would be the one who didn’t care about that. And I’ve been trying to prepare myself for yet another breakup when I said I didn’t frag, and I couldn’t do it because being with you made me so damn happy.”
“Well, hopefully, I keep making you happy.” Smokescreen didn’t seem inclined to move, so Blurr didn’t loosen his embrace. “Cause I don’t want to lose you, either.”
