Steve rushes around his room, throwing things in a bag haphazardly, trying to keep his anger in check, trying not to engage . He can still hear his dad complaining loudly to his mom downstairs about how Steve is such a disappointment. That he’s not living up to expectations. That he’s hanging out with questionable company.
Steve hates him. His parents haven’t even been home in months and now they think they can come back and boss Steve around. Like they have any right after ignoring him, again. After not even checking on him after the… ‘ earthquake’ and he’s just done. He can’t be here anymore. He can’t constantly be on edge, wondering if they’re going to show up. Can’t keep feeling bad about himself because of these people that clearly don’t care about him.
Steve chucks a few more things into his bag, heading toward the door when something catches his eye, stuck into the side of his mirror. His heart drops as he realizes he almost forgot one of his most important things. He rushes back to his closet, reaching up to grab a shoe box from the top shelf. He opens it up, a grin tugging at the side of his mouth as he walks over to his mirror and plucks the picture of him and Robin smiling widely at the camera. He places it gently in the box, filled with other smiling faces staring up at him. He puts the lid back on, and walks out of his room, hurrying down the steps and out the front door, refusing to look back.
