Chapter Text
The entrance exam to get into UA wasn't too much of a struggle for Kaminari. His quirk, electrification, made it easier for him to take down some of the bots than others. Of course, he couldn't use large outputs of energy or he'd be rendered basically useless, but he did what he could.
Towards the end of the exam, commotion about a certain large, pointless bot came into play. Denki really didn't think all that much of the kid he saw taking that beast down, although the power behind his blow did shock him. The aftermath left him and the rest of the participants more confused than before, seeing as the kid had injured himself so badly with that blow to the robot. Regardless, he shook the concern and confusion regarding that random kid from his head as he made his way to the exit after the exam ended.
His eyes caught a glimpse of something purple out the corner of his vision, and taking the time to look slightly, he spotted a girl. Her hair was slightly "choppy" as some would call it with the angling bangs and the sharp side pieces, but to Kaminari it was interesting. He couldn't tell her quirk from afar. He'd seen some other kids in the exam with clearly definable quirk features, like a kid with webbed arms and some guy with a tail, but from afar, this girl was impossible to figure out.
Leaving the exam site, all the students had to be looked over for any injuries, although most people were fine. Denki thought back to that green haired kid, but quickly shook the thought from his head. Right now, all he wanted to do was return home and rest for a year. It felt like this exam had taken all his electricity, as well as his energy, out of him entirely.
Finally being released from the entirety of the exam site, he looked around for a moment as he left a medical tent and another kid walked in. Subconsciously, he was looking for that girl. He didn't have a clue what was drawing his attention so heavily to her, but he wanted to see her again, maybe talk to her, possibly get her number...
Luck wasn't on his side sadly, and he left the exam site feeling a bit dejected and slightly disappointed. He wasn't sure why, but he felt like there was just this spark in that girl that he was supposed to ignite. She carried herself with such.. anxiety ? No, no way, had to be some sort of internal turmoil he couldn't see. He just knew he wanted to meet her again and maybe get to know her better, to help her hold herself high.
'Rich words for someone like me..' He thought, looking at his feet as he walked back to his home. His hands shoved in his pockets as he stood at the intersection to cross the street to his apartment complex.
Once he had the light to go, he walked fast, seeing as he was just exhausted and quickly losing his energy more and more the closer he got to his home.
Reaching the stairs that led up to the floor he lived on, he dug his keys out of his pocket before making the seemingly forever lasting walk up the stairs, to his door. The welcome mat read '立入禁止' (no trespassing) and he simply scuffed his shoes over it before unlocking the door and stepping inside, sliding his shoes off immediately and letting out a sigh of relief as he felt the slightly chilly air in the apartment run over his warm skin and face.
He lived alone for the most part. Sometimes his mom would drop by, but usually, it was just him. She left him money of course, because she wasn't willing to force her child to work for his meals or living quarters just yet. He was grateful, but sometimes he rathered she just be there with him.
He walked to the kitchenette in the apartment and pulled out a small packet of noodles to cook. He had never known his dad, but from what his mom said on the rare occasion, his dad really had loved him and his mom. He had no clue what happened to him, since his mom never told him, but he had pictures, which he did look at sometimes.
His favourite was a picture of his dad with him when he was barely a day old. The resemblence to him now was stark, almost like a mirror. He just smiled when he thought of the life he may be living now.
Finishing with the noodles, he prepped them and put everything together before taking the bowl to his room in the back of the apartment, going to sit at his desk, which was a mess of papers and trash. He needed to clean, but he just wasn't in the mood to right now.
As he sat there, eating his subpar noodles, he thought back to that girl. Did she live alone too ? No, she looked happy enough to still have her parents around constantly. Maybe not exactly happy, but she seemed to not be alone.
'Why am I still thinking about this girl, I don't even know her, this is creepy, Denki, get ahold of yourself.' He thought, laying his face in his palms for a moment before leaning back in his chair. 'Its not like you're ever going to see her again. You probably didn't even make it into the school with that horrible performance.'
He just sighed and stood up, looking at the half eaten ramen, before heading to lay himself down in his bed, rolling onto his side to face the window, seeing the picture frames with a photo of his mom, and that one picture of him and his dad.
“Goodnight mom, dad. Wish me some luck, will you ?”
He chuckled halfheartedly before turning and flicking his lamp off, closing his eyes to try and sleep.
