The 12th Egg

Summary:

Bunnyx makes it a tradition to hide an egg in Marinette’s room/house every easter for fun.

Notes:

This all started from a simple conversation had on the Miraculous Fanworks discord.

So thanks The_Rabbit42 and megetstoread, for giving me this stupidly fun idea.

I hope it's an enjoyable read, I had lots of fun writing this.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Age: 5

Marinette was 5 years old when her parents started the tradition of the Easter Egg hunt around the bakery.

Her Parents explained how the magical Easter Bunny had hidden 11 eggs around the place and it was Marinette’s job to find them all to get herself a sweet reward.

The 5 year old heard the hint of their being sweets at the end of this and started her hunt across the bakery, she looked in cupboards, she looked in the bookcase and she even looked in the toilet.

By the end of the day Marinette had found all 11 eggs and had gotten her sweet treat of a delicious easter themed cake, with the only remains of it being the chocolate all over her face, but it was clear Marinette had enjoy the hunt and her parents were glad she liked it as well, they were definitely going to make this a yearly thing.

But as Sabine was getting Marinette ready for bed, Marinette made an interesting discovery “ Look Mommy, I found another egg! ” Sabine was surprised, but she quickly chopped it up to Tom being overly excited to set this whole thing up.

She lets Marinette take the egg to bed with her and wishes her a goodnight.

Marinette meanwhile, is just looking at the mysterious egg.

It was blue, but not a soft, pastel blue like some of the others. No, it was bright cyan, with fine white lines painted across it in delicate waves.

As she messed with the egg in bed, she found out how to open it. Inside was some of her favourite chocolates and a note that said

“Hi, I’m the Easter Bunny, Marinette, and I’m real!”

Marinette wanted to scream in excitement, as her 5 year old mind was blown away at the reveal. But tiredness won over and Marinette slept like a log that easter night, as she dreamed of meeting the Easter Bunny one day.

Age: 7

The next time Marinette did the easter egg hunt was when she was 7 years old, she couldn’t do it last year due to being bedridden with the spring flu.

So Marinette was more determined to hunt for the eggs this year, she was a lot smarter than she was two years ago and so she had figured out that her parents were the egg placers.

But she wasn’t going to tell them that she knew that yet, she liked the smiles her parents have at seeing her hunt for the eggs.

Marinette once again hunted high and low for the eggs around the house, she noticed they were in harder to find places, she found them hidden behind jars, buried in plant pots and inside pockets of her clothes.

By the end of the day, she had found all 11 eggs that her parents had hidden… but then she found a 12th egg… hidden in her pyjamas drawer.

It was the same cyan colour and has the same white line design as the first one she got.

She remembered how to open it and inside she found her favourite chocolates, some vitamin gummies and another note. This one read

“I missed you last year, remember to stay healthy Marinette.”

Marinette had more questions than answers, but she thanked the easter bunny for caring about her health, before she closed her eyes to sleep.

Age: 8

Another year old, another Easter hunt.

The now 8 year old Marinette was more prepared for this year, she had mapped out all the possible places the eggs could be, because she was going to find who the easter bunny was.

She was going to show her classmates, especially Alix that someone was leaving those eggs for her.

Marinette did practice runs, she even stayed up past her bedtime to watch her parents place the eggs around the house.

Marinette was confident she would catch the Easter Bunny, she saw all 11 locations that her parents had used and she double checked all the other hiding spots for a 12th egg, and no egg was found at them.

Marinette awoke on the easter morning, tired but determined, she found all the eggs before midday, much to her parent’s dismay.

She was now able to focus on catching the mysterious Easter Bunny in the act of placing the 12th egg, she went from spot to spot, never staying at one spot for too long because she knew that a single slip up would give the Easter Bunny room to place the egg and vanish into the night.

The day dragged on as the tired Marinette kept repeating the same cycle over and over, eventually Marinette fell asleep on a large pillow at one of the spots.

When she wakes up, there it is right beside her, the cyan egg once again, she opens it to find some of her favourite chocolate, a picture of her sleeping, some vitamin gummies and another note.

“Got to try harder Marinette, I’m always one step ahead of you, from the Easter Bunny.”

Marinette started to smile, those she may not have caught the Easter Bunny, but now she has proof they were real and she can show it to Alix.

Age: 9

This year Marinette wasn’t alone in the hunt, after she had shown last year note to Alix at school, Alix was curious to find out who the mysterious Easter Bunny was, so she agreed to join Marinette on her quest to find out who they were.

The girls cleverly planned a sleepover, so that Alix would be there the whole time and so Marinette wouldn’t repeat last year’s mistake of falling asleep.

Both girls found the hunt to be hard this year, as Marinette’s parents clearly learned from last year as well, so both girls need to use teamwork and trust to find the eggs' locations and claim their sweet reward.

At the end of the day both girls had forgotten their mission and so when they went to bed that night they found the 12th egg waiting for them in plain sight.

Oddly this egg was larger than the last few and when Marinette opened it, inside was both of the girls’ favourite chocolates, a picture of them in the middle of the hunt, some vitamin gummies, a note like always and finally two friendship bracelets for the girls.

Both girls take a friendship bracelet, as Marinette reads the note

“Look who made a good friend, but I am still smarter than you, from yours truly, The Easter Bunny.”

Both girls vowed to never stop the hunt for the Easter Bunny, just like the note had said, the two girls formed a close friendship from this night onwards.

Age: 10 to 12

The next three hunts all had similar results, Marinette and Alix would have a sleepover over the weekend that the hunt happens on, the girls worked together and found all 11 eggs around the bakery, but then got blindsided by the 12th egg showing up in places they least expected.

One time it was in Alix’s hat, another in Marinette’s diary box and lastly taunting them in the middle of Marinette’s bedroom after a long day of searching for the egg.

Inside the 12th egg was always the same thing, the girls' favourite chocolates, a picture of them in the middle of the hunt, some vitamin gummies, some sort of gift for the two girls.

Lastly a note like always, that had some teasing comment from the Easter Bunny on it.

Marinette and Alix never told anyone else in the class about their little tradition, it was something for just the two of them to share and they both liked it very much.

Age: 13

Marinette was saddened when she got to this year’s Easter hunt, due to becoming Ladybug and fighting Hawk Moth everyday, on top of her other duties like being class rep and working at the bakery.

Means Marinette has had no time to prepare for the Easter hunt, a part of her wants to tell her parents to cancel the whole thing… but she doesn’t want to break their hearts just yet.

What surprised her was that on the friday afternoon, Alix was at the bakery waiting for her to have the sleepover like they always do.

Alix told Marinette how “This year is going to be the one, I can feel it.”

Marinette couldn’t help but be sucked in by that competitive spirit, as the two girls for the first time, take their time in finding the eggs, while also catching up on what they’ve both been doing.

Marinette was beginning to think Alix didn’t care about finding the Easter Bunny, because after they had found the 11th egg, Alix asked if Marinette would like to just hang out at the nearby park for a bit, Marinette agreed a little too quickly.

To both girls' surprise, what they found at the park was the 12th egg and like always inside was the girls' favourite chocolates, a picture of them in the middle of the hunt, some vitamin gummies, some sort of gift for the two girls.

But oddly no note was included, Alix jokes “Looks like they ran out of ways to mock us” as she starts to eat the chocolate.

They spend the rest of the evening hanging out in the park, Marinette enjoying the peace of their being no Easter themed Akuma to fight.

That Night while Alix is in the bathroom, Marinette finds another cyan egg waiting for her on her bed, inside was only a note

“Please never stop believing in me, Marinette, because I will never stop believing in you, from the Easter Bunny.”

Marinette sheds a few tears before whispering “Thank you Easter Bunny” , she wiped her eyes and enjoyed the night with Alix.

Both girls knew it was time they ended the hunt.

Age: 18

It’s been 5 years since the last Easter egg hunt, so much time has passed for Marinette since the last hunt.

She has in many ways grown-up, she has become a better hero, she is going to university to study fashion.

Ironically, she hasn’t grown up in two ways, firstly physically she hasn’t grown that much, unlike Alix who had a major growth spurt over the 5 years and secondly she has never stopped believing in the Easter Bunny.

While she may have ended the hunts when she was 13 years old, she never stopped celebrating Easter.

She and Alix still had their regular Easter sleepovers, but instead of egg hunt… the pair had fun in other ways by trying new things, like Marinette taking a stab at Skateboarding and Alix weirdly wanting to learn how to slow dance with her. But Marinette never found another Cyan egg… not until this year.

The pair had just spent the day having what some would consider a nice day out, they saw a movie, went to a restaurant and now they were spending the night, now no longer in Marinette’s room but in their shared apartment.

Both girls had gotten changed into more comfortable clothes and Marinette had gotten comfortable on the sofa, when a cyan egg came into her view, being held by Alix.

Marinette look back and forth between the egg and Alix, she then takes the egg from her and finds inside only a note,

“Been awhile Marinette, Happy Easter, From your favourite Easter Bunnyx”

Marinette then put all the pieces together, as it finally clicked… Alix is the Easter Bunny!

Notes:

Happy easter, if you celebrate it.

I've got little much to add than, I'll see ya tomorrow...

Hehe I already had another story that has already been written and it's a totally normal story... I promise.
