Chapter Text
The blood moons always started at midnight. There was never any warning. It's sudden, with no pattern. The moment an Urban Legend touched the moon's light, they would be affected, and the affects continued until the moon went down.
For some reason, James had always thought Retaliator would be different.
Honor grumbled, metal boots clanking against the pavement as she paced back and fourth, up and down the alleyway.
"He's twenty minutes late." James observed.
"How dishonourable... just over a blood moon? What a coward..." Honor spat, stopping her pacing to glower at the moon. It was a brilliant vermillion colour, and seemed to be clawing its way through the sky. It was only a crescent moon, yet the streets were painted a stunning red, the light levels more comparable to a full moon. No wonder some people thought blood moons were Urbano themselves replacing the moon with their eye.
"Let's give him... ten more minutes?" James offered, leaning against the wall. He adjusted his glasses.
"Five." Honor responded.
"Five." James echoed agreeably.
One minute turned into two, two turned to five, five turned to eight, eight turned to ten, ten turned to fifteen.
"That's it! He's had his time." Honor finally growled.
"You going?" James asked.
"Correct. There's more important things I could be doing, rather than waiting on some dishonourable rascal." Honor answered.
"Same time, here, tomorrow?" James asked again.
"Right." Honor answered.
"Very well. I'll see you- aaaand she's gone."
James stood there for a moment, Honor's footsteps already fading into the distance. She could be fast when she wanted to be. Or when she was pissed.
James decided he didn't want to die today, opting not to call out to her. Instead, he turned right, and started toward the Urbuzz station.
About half-way there, he stopped, hearing what sounded like some feral beast wailing in the alleyway.
He took a step back and turned to look into the alleyway, seeing someone balled up on the floor.
