the rain was nice, albeit uncomfortably humid. the gentle staccato of rain droplets pittering against her frame was comforting... though, she knew she couldn't stay. she could never stay long enough. she stretched and looked to the sleeping figure next to her, the dim lights from the cathedral making her scruffy braided hair look soft to the touch. she deftly brushed the hair out of nori's visor-view, as she had done many times before.
her internal alarm rang with the soft notes of a harp, reminding her of how early it was. the humans would soon wish to perform tests, and would cause a ruckus if they realized she and nori had escaped -- if temporarily. her displeasure with the humans was immeasurable, but not expressed nearly as much as her feisty friend's was.
speaking of which, yeva raised a finger and flicked it directly into the drone in question's face. nori stirred, then shifted uncomfortably with a groan, "hrr.. yeva? w'time izzit..." as yeva reached forward to flick her again, nori swatted it away despite her tired state. yeva couldn't help but find this amusing.
being ripped from your job in broad daylight due to being infected with supposed "defective ai" was nothing short of horrific, and the tests they were forced to endure didn't help. but being paired with nori in such a situation was something yeva never knew she needed. yeva knew, that if they got out ("which we will!" nori's determined growl rang through her head,) the two would stay life-long friends.
...or, perhaps become something else. but neither of them were ready for that yet.
"fi' more minutes." nori drawled out. yeva snorted and whacked her again, hard enough to make nori yelp and fall off of the log the two were resting on. yeva turned up her nose and batted her led eyelashes inconspicuously as nori scrambled back onto the log, sputtering accusations, "oh, you little sh-"
church bells rang out in the distance, indicating the day had started. the humans had probably woken up and were performing routine daily checkups. if they came across her and nori's empty lockers, their abandoned chains, they'd search relentlessly until her and nori were found, and then they'd-
"well, darn." nori cut through yeva's thoughts with a snort, "are we going to go sneaky ninja on their asses or what?" nori turned to yeva and popped the servos in her knuckles, a toothy half-smirk on her face as if it were the most simple thing in the world.
she hated how easily nori quelled her worries. she smirk she held on her face was backed by unmatched confidence, almost dangerously so. she couldn't help but notice the warmth of her core rise to her faceplate, and instinctively nodded the feeling away.
--
and so, the two made it back. unable to use their solver abilities due to the sensors lining every inch of the cathedral, nori's supposed 'rebellious teen' abilities came in handy. yeva was not used to sneaking around, however, so there was a few close calls -- but nothing they couldn't handle.
they soon came to the crossroads. though their lockers were not physically very far apart, the distance was lonely. the weight of nori's hand soon slipped from hers, and the threat of solitude loomed over her once more.
she snapped her fingers in nori's direction, earning a confused hum as the drone turned to look at her once more. yeva brushed another unruly strand of hair from the drone's face and leaned forward, placing a parting gift on nori's cheek. she caught a fleeting glance of the other drone's flustered reaction, and huffed with amusement before waving goodbye.
the moment she entered her locker, making sure to place herself in the exact position she had been in when she was taken out, she received a ping.
