Soft April 2024 - Day 9: Flower Crown

Summary:

Rose and the Doctor find a flower field, and at Rose's suggestion have a picnic there.

Notes:

I wish I had the art skills required to draw a person, or a flower crown, or really anything more than a few doodles, so I could draw this
Anyway, I am mildly dyslexic so there may be some errors here.
Enjoy :)

Work Text:

The Tardis settled easily, a stark contrast to their regular bumpy landings. They shared a grin over the console, and the Doctor watched her run to the door. Rose waited for him to catch up, so that he was stood just behind her when she pushed the doors open. Instead of the large mountain range they expected to see, a flower field sprawled out around them.

"Ah," the Doctor said, looking out at it. He'd intended to take them on a nice long hike through the mountain range and then fly them off to Rose's cafe in an entirely different galaxy, just because he could. He rested a hand on her arm, keeping her safely in the Tardis just in case.

"It's beautiful," Rose said, looking out at the scenery. In the distance she could just make out some mountains, but it was mostly the rolling hills of the flower field.

"Suppose it is," he agreed, looking to her. Rose was smiling out at the field, and she looked so at ease. His hearts did that odd twisty thing they did sometimes when he looked at her, so he looked to the field instead.

"We should have a picnic," Rose told him. He looked back to her and she had twisted to stare up at him, the same soft smile now directed at him and not the many beautiful flowers.

"I dunno Rose, we weren't going to be eating for another few hours," he said. She shrugged.

"I could eat something now," she said, "besides, this place is perfect!"

"I'll note the coordinates, and we'll go to that market asteroid you like for the food," he relented. It was hard to say no to Rose, and he didn't really want to anyway. She seemed happy with that, and let him lead her back to the console.

They spent just over an hour getting everything for the picnic, and preparing it. Eventually though they returned to the flower field, the Tardis was nice enough to land them in the exact same spot mere moments after they had left the planet. Rose and the Doctor set out the picnic blanket, and settled onto it with the basket in the centre.

The Doctor laid back onto the blanket and grass, using his leather jacket as a pillow. He'd give the jacket to Rose in a heartbeat if she asked though, her comfort was always more important to him. He plopped a plate onto his stomach and Rose passed him some food she knew he liked. He went between watching the strange birds fly overhead, looking at the scenery, and admiring Rose.

Rose picked at the food on her plate while she picked flowers. The Doctor couldn't help but find her beautiful. The pinkish sun shone on her, and the smile she had was one of the most beautiful things he'd ever seen. Rose was carefully making a flower crown from the flowers around them, but he was a little distracted by her beauty to notice.

"Doctor," she said after some time. He smiled at her.

"Yes?" he asked. She gestured for him to sit up and he did. He noticed then the flower crown she was carefully holding. Even if he wanted to deny her it was too late, she was already shuffling closer to put it on his head.

The flowers tickled at his head, but he smiled at Rose anyway. She looked so please with herself as she sat back to admire him now. The blues and whites of the flowers contrasted nicely with his dark blue and black clothing. It looked a little out of the place, the flower crown on her grumpy Doctor. She liked it though.

Rose rather wished she had a camera to take a photo of him in that moment. The lopsided crown, his grin, how relaxed he looked. She wanted to remember this moment forever.

Notes:

I desperately wish I could draw Nine sat there with the flower crown and Rose grinning at him alas my skills include mushrooms and eyes and not on a realism scale, more here's a floating eye with a mushroom growing out of it.
Anyway! I hope you liked it, if you did maybe consider leaving a comment, all comments and kudos are greatly appreciated. See you in the next one :)
