Work Text:

'I'm not that pale!' Medic says, but his jet black hair does him no favours, & everyone on base knows that the doctor is almost freezing to the touch.

'Stop falling asleep in positions that make the boys think you're dead!' The others keep telling him, but it's not his fault Scout & Pyro still haven't learned. Can he really be blamed if he's a deep sleeper & the two young mercs still haven't bothered to learn how to check someone's pulse? The other mercs say yes, yes it is his fault.

Of course, the doctor would never admit to them being right, Who in their right mind would admit to something like that? Not him, that's for certain!

Well, not until he has to deal with a giant Russian bear panicking & yelling at him.

"Oh my god! Doktor!" In Medic's defense, he was just taking a nap. Terrible defense, he knows. Heavy had stepped into the infirmary for nothing more than a kiss & some quality time spent with the one man on base who understood him. Or, well, understood him better than the other men on base. And, mind you, Heavy was used to seeing some weird things going on in the infirmary. Random skeletons belonging to Tuefort civilians, runaway animal chimaeras that Medic claimed he had nothing to do with, & organs that may or may not have belonged to actual aliens. He was used to all of it.

What he wasn't used to, however, & which he never expected to come across, was a limp Medic laying on one of the operating tables. His skin looked ghastly pale under the glaring lights of the overhead lamp, & his body was, predictably, freezing to the touch.

"Oh my god! Help! Doktor is dead!" He wasn't, thank you very much. He didn't care that he hadn't woken up when Heavy started yelling, or even when the giant picked him up by the shoulders & started tossing him around in an approximation of 'shaking a sleeping man awake'. And no, it wasn't his fault that he only woke up when the entire team flooded the infirmary, & Spy quite roughly yanked back one of his eyelids. He also felt no remorse at flailing around & smacking Engineer & Sniper in the faces, they shouldn't have gotten so close to him when he was waking up!

Ok, but he did feel a bit bad when Heavy smacked him in the chest with that big head of his, & started crying. Not a lot bad, but a bit bad for sure. After all, it definitely wasn't his fault that he slept like the dead, & had the looks to match. Seriously, he should teach these dummkopfe how to check a person's pulse. And no, it really isn't his fault that they don't know how to do that, & that he hasn't yet taught them how to do it. He's too busy taking power naps & dissecting sabercat organs to bother teaching them these things. Seriously, the nerve of some people.
