After a moment's contemplation Jane finally ceased her protest, releasing a breath of annoyance and then meeting his waiting eye. It seemed to sparkle.
"You have all the reassurance you could ever possibly need already. The proof is in your lap as we speak. Here I am, Mrs. Rochester, in the flesh!"
"Oh, and what flesh it is, my love. I can scarcely believe it is real before me," he said.
"Is this real?" she asked with a smirk, seizing his hand in hers and kissing it.
It was proof of more than their corporeality; it was proof of their transcendent triumph, and of the love they felt for each other which was not altogether merely human, but as enchanted as the forest surrounding them.
