Work Text:

Ranboo lay on his small bed on the second floor of their small house in the Antarctic. Their hands were folded neatly on his stomach. They stared at the ceiling with wide eyes, almost like the ceiling was staring back. Ranboo had this feeling. It was deep in his gut. They’d felt this feeling since joining the New L’manburg cabinet.

They hadn’t seen Tubbo in almost a year.

It was a weird thing to think about. They used to see each other every day. It was lonely without the small goat boy’s quick remarks and gruff voice. The last time they saw him was Doomsday. He looked at Ranboo with the saddest eyes they’d ever seen. Tubbo knew they didn’t like eye contact so of course he had quickly broken it. Ranboo liked his eyes.

The pale blue with the slitted goat pupil. The other one was milky white, a glass eye. Of course, Ranboo never told him that they liked his eyes. That was weird. Ranboo ran off after the destruction was caused, tagging along with Techno and Phil. He didn’t regret it, they loved living out here with them but it had been so long.

When Ranboo realized he loved Tubbo, it was a hard pill to swallow. They had platonically married for their adopted son, Micheal, who was currently in the Nether. For spouses, they hadn’t seen each other in far too long. This was nearly the thousandth time they thought about Tubbo. They had to tell them. Ranboo sat up slowly.

But how would he respond to the confession? How would he respond to seeing Ranboo after almost a whole year?! They pulled at their hair slightly before fully standing up. They had to do this or they wouldn’t any other time!

They remembered how they used to sit by Tubbo in his office late at night. The room sometimes smelled like booze or cigarette smoke. Ranboo didn’t like the smell but they always kept quiet about it. He remembered one night in particular. The room smelled like beer and Tubbo was sat at that big desk he’s usually sat at. A beer on his left-hand side, right next to the documents he scribbled on.

The goat boy had his normal crisp navy blue suit jacket hanging off the back of the chair, wrinkled and discarded. His matching blue pants looked alright, mind the stains here and there. His white buttoned shirt hung off him, barely fitting him. The red tie he wore with pride, was thrown somewhere across the room. Ranboo had walked in to give Tubbo the notes from the day's meeting.

Tubbo had looked up at Ranboo from his work. He looked so small compared to Ranboo. Tubbo had grabbed the notes, shoving them in the normal cabinet he put them in, not even bothering a second glance. Ranboo sighed, and they turned around to leave but he remembered what the boy had said as they walked out.

“Thank you Boo. I don’t think I say it enough.”

The nickname had made their heartstrings pull as he closed the door, pretending like they didn’t hear. He was drunk. It meant nothing. But deep down, it was everything to them. He fell so hard for the boy. Ranboo got themselves together, looking in the mirror and making sure they looked nice and presentable. They put on their normal purple cloak, buttoning it with the shiny endereye.

They walk out of their house, footsteps hitting wood turned into the soft crunch of snow. They closed the door before walking out farther into the snowy biome. They had never been to Snowchester before but they had heard of it. Tubbo had built a small village all by himself. And he lived there all by himself. It must be lonely.

They kept walking for a while, dress shoes crunching against the snow. After a bit, they saw a tall chainlink fence in the distance. A flag pole stood firmly in the ground near it, displaying a flag of blues, white and yellow. The fence had barbed wire at the top and a ton of signs were hanging on the fence. Some ranged from caution signs to no trespassing signs. What has Tubbo even been doing all this time?

The gate to get in was locked but that didn’t stop Ranboo. They disappeared in a flurry of purple particles and reappeared on the inside of the fence. They looked around at the wooden cottages, town square, and clean dock. No one lived here though. No one other than Tubbo.

It was eerily quiet except for the sound of faint music in the distance. Ranboo’s long ears perked up, going towards the noise. He passed more cottages and a fighting center it appeared, before stopping at a huge concrete building. It stuck out like a sore thumb and it looked like someone was keeping a powerful beast in it. The music was coming from inside, the double doors cracked open ajar.

There were more caution and warning signs on the building. That’s when they noticed the huge yellow sign with thick black writing. There was a nuke symbol next to it and in huge letters, it said ‘WARNING: NUKE BUILDING SITE.’

Realization hit the endermen like a truck. Tubbo was building nukes here. The town is a front. They froze, the cold wind whipping. They heard footsteps and the crunch of snow. “What the fuck are you doing here?!” Ranboo turned around and looked down slightly. He was not met by eyes but by dyed blonde bangs covering the upper half of the person's face. Ranboo realized it was Tubbo after a moment. He looked drastically different.

His fancy navy suit was traded with a black sleeveless turtle neck, the space around his hips was where the fabric made arches showing off the boy’s pale skin. He wore baggy green cargo pants with many pockets, chains hung from a belt, the chains made a small sound every time he moved slightly. The goat boy’s brown fluffy hair was now covering his beautiful eyes, the bangs and lower half of the hair now dyed blonde, sticking out from the chocolate brown. His horns were longer and his goat ears twitched. He had a black spikey septum piercing in his nose. And of course, his huge scar still stretched across his handsome face.

Tubbo looked like a new person. Ranboo blushed a deep shade of purple, realizing they were staring. “T-tubbo! It’s me! Ranboo!” Ranboo smiled nervously. “And you're going to get sick! It’s freezing out and you don’t have a coat!” They add on quickly. Tubbo raked his hand through his bangs, pushing them up to reveal his eyes for a moment. Ranboo caught a glimpse. The blue eye was still the same, beautiful and clear like a blue sky. The other one, the one that used to be milky white, was replaced with a yellow glass eye with a nuke symbol in it.

“Ranboo? Holy shit. Uhm. I’m fine bossman, I’m used to the cold.” Tubbo’s cheeks were a light shade of pink. “Sorry, I just haven’t seen you in quite a while. Fuck. I missed you dude.” Tubbo said with a chuckle, Ranboo flushed. “O-oh! I missed you too! I’ve been thinking about you quite a lot.” They saw Tubbo smile a bit more, his cheeks getting a bit more pink.

There was a short pause. “Uhm, what have you been up to?” The taller asked, swiping some of his long black silky hair behind one ear. “Nothing much. Just building uh, illegal nukes-? What about you?” Tubbo said slowly. “I’ve been living in the Antarctic. It’s been nice. But it’s kind of lonely. And I kept thinking about you and the cabinet and I decided to come find you. I thought it was high time we talked again.” Ranboo says in a slightly fancy tone just as they did back in New L’manburg.

“You know you don’t need to talk like that right? We aren’t in the cabinet anymore.” Tubbo says, crossing his arms. Ranboo bit their bottom lip, feeling embarrassed. They shivered a bit, their purple cloak not helping much against the harsh cool air. It was colder than the Antarctic for some reason. Tubbo noticed the shiver and he walked over to the door of the concrete building, closing the door tightly. “Come with me. I don’t want you to die of frostbite.” Tubbo joked, walking the opposite way, Ranboo following close behind.

He led the endermen to a nice two-story wooden cottage with a small porch. Tubbo climbed up the porch stairs, guiding Ranboo to follow him. The goat boy opened the door and Ranboo felt the warm air from inside as the two walked into the house. Tubbo closed the door as both of them walked in.

Ranboo looked around. It was quite small but cozy and looked very lived in. There was a fireplace with logs inside, a comfortable-looking couch, bookshelves, and a door to another room. They looked towards a ladder that went to the second floor. “Wait here for a moment. You can get comfortable, I don’t mind!” Tubbo smiled as he climbed up the ladder and disappeared into the second floor.

After a moment, Ranboo sat on the couch reluctantly but immediately sank into the soft material. It felt warm and smelt nice. It smelled like Tubbo. A few minutes later, they heard Tubbo come back down the stairs and walked over to the couch. He threw a blanket at Ranboo who caught it and stared at it before draping it over themselves. They felt the couch dip next to him and they looked over to see Tubbo sitting next to them. They blush.

“Thanks…” They muttered. “It’s no problem at all. It’s nice that you came by. I haven’t seen anyone in a long time.” Tubbo responded, snuggling into the cushions. He was so close to Ranboo and they blushed even more. They had to tell them.

“Tubbo!” Ranboo yelled suddenly. The smaller jumped and let out a small goat noise which made Ranboo coo quietly. “What?? Why did you suddenly yell?!” Tubbo got closer to them, frowning in alarm. “Can… Can I tell you something?!” Ranboo said loudly, standing up and looking down at Tubbo. “What’s up?” Tubbo said in a confused tone.

Ranboo paused and kept looking down at Tubbo, a blushing mess. Tubbo looked at them with concern. The taller took a breath before leaning down quickly, grabbing the goat boy’s face and pulling him in for a soft kiss. Tubbo’s eyes widen and he immediately wraps his arms around Ranboo’s neck, pulling them down back onto the couch. They kissed each other softly a bit more, Ranboo dragging their thumb across the smaller’s cheek.

They pull away after a bit and stare at each other. “Whoa.” Tubbo says. Ranboo stutters. “Oh my XD! I-im so sorry I don’t know what came o-over me! I’m so so sorry please dont hate me. I understand i-if you don’t like me that way and you probably don’t-!” They rambled before Tubbo covered their mouth.

“Boo, chill out.” He laughs. “I like you too.”

Ranboo froze, still sitting slightly on top of Tubbo and they were both blushing. “Really?” Ranboo sputtered. “Of course. I’ve liked you since the later days of the cabinet I just didn’t know how to tell you.” Tubbo blushed. Ranboo hugged Tubbo, the two melting into each other’s touch. “Wanna be my boyfriend, Bee?” Ranboo whispered. Tubbo smiled. “Of course Boo, anything at all to be with you.” And the two once again, leaned in for a kiss.

—---------------------------------------------------------------

The next morning, Ranboo opened his eyes to Tubbo tucked comfortably into their side, still fast asleep. They smiled and kissed his forehead, slowly sitting up to not disturb the shorter. He looked around the bedroom. Tubbo’s bedroom. They blushed realizing they just slept in Tubbo’s bed, his boyfriend’s bed. They felt Tubbo snuggle up closer to them, wrapping his arms around them. “Morning,” Ranboo said softly, running his fingers through the smaller’s hair.

Tubbo mumbled a small morning back, still latched onto Ranboo. “Did you sleep well?” Tubbo asks, smiling as he looks up at the endermen. “Yep. Thanks for letting me stay over…” Ranboo hugs Tubbo. “No problem Boo. You can sleep over any time. Or just come over any time.” Ranboo’s ears perked up at this. “Really?!” They said, smiling widely.

“Well, you're my partner now soooo, no duh. Of course, you can always come over.” He says, getting out of his bed. Ranboo blushes and takes some of their silky black and white hair into their hand and twirls it. “I have to go pick up where I left off on my work. Stay as long as you like.” Tubbo kisses Ranboo’s cheek before walking out of the room. Ranboo touches the part of his cheek where Tubbo’s lips had just been, feeling the ghost of his warm lips. They smile and lay back down.
