Chapter 1: Wednesday tries to be a better girlfriend, Enid doesn't know they're dating

Chapter Text

Wednesday Addams had come to a final and undeniable conclusion.

She and Enid Sinclair were dating.

As a couple, that is. Romantically involved with each other. Girlfriends, if you prefer.

Neither Enid nor herself had ever verbalized it, but she was just sure of it.

She wasn't clear about the timeline or when it really happened, but all the clues and evidence confirmed her suspicions. She had done exhaustive and solid research during those months, and her observations had to be correct.

Exhibit A: closeness and affection.

Enid had increased in time, closeness and frequency her physical contact with her. This parameter had been difficult to specify, since Enid was excessively and chronically affectionate. However, it doesn't mean that she wasn't respectful with Wednesday's standards and boundaries.

It was one of the qualities Wednesday appreciated the most about her.

Wednesday had also observed that on the nights they hugged each other good night there was an 89% lower chance of Enid suffering from a nightmare, and a long-term study concluded that after seventeen days of the same nightly ritual, the blonde’s night terrors completely disappeared.

It had not been known what the time was for the nightmares to appear again, since they had continued with that ritual every night, none of them saying anything about it.

Exhibit B: affectionate nicknames.

Enid had multiple variations of her name (Wens, Willa, Wendy, Nes), as well as other terms of endearment to refer to Wednesday (‘roomie’, this being the most repeated, although interspersed with ‘babe’, ‘baby’, ‘babycakes’ and ‘tiny terror’, among others).

Wednesday had not been able to find a pattern as to why she said each one at each time, but she had noticed that such a quantity and frequency of nicknames was limited only to her and not to any of the other people at the academy.

We must not forget their dates, (appearing in the case study as exhibit C ).

It was known that Enid enjoyed spending time with her roommate, and she named each of the activities they did together as dates: ‘coffee dates’ when they went to the Weathervane for the afternoon, ‘shopping dates’ when one of them had an errand to run in Jericho, ‘movie dates’ when on stormy weekends they curled up in the blonde's bed to watch some series on her laptop. There were also the girls' nights, when Wednesday reluctantly allowed Enid to paint her nails her usual black while the blonde talked at length about how her week had been.

On the other hand, and although Wednesday couldn't help but blush at the thought, Enid had repeatedly praised her body and her wit, as well as pointing out on several occasions, sometimes smiling casually, and other times with tears in her eyes, that she was grateful for having her in her life and that it was the best thing that had happened to her. Wednesday had only been able to nod and hug her back, but the feeling was incredibly mutual.

But one might think, without having bilateral verbal confirmation, how could it be justified that they were in a romantic relationship? Excellent question. Wednesday had also considered it, and it was one of the things that set back her investigation the most.

However, there was one factor that could not be overlooked.

Enid was a rather… chaotic person. Knowing how she functioned in other environments, Wednesday was able to understand that the blonde would probably prefer to move in terms of relationships in a fluid and organic way.

They had gone from being strangers, to roommates, to acquaintances, to allies, to friends and best friends without any official verbalization nor prior agreement (except for the roommates part) therefore it made sense that the change of level to the realm of romanticism would happen in the same way.

Thus, although they had not bilaterally labeled the relationship did not mean that they were not already in a clear courtship stage.

At first Wednesday was frankly surprised, but thinking about it, it made sense. They made sense. As Enid had once pointed out: they worked, they shouldn't, but they did.

That she and Enid would end up as a couple was only a matter of time, after all.

However, Wednesday couldn't help but feel like she had to do something more. Enid, who was the sun personified, who had brought color to her life, who filled her days with smiles and impossibly blue eyes, deserved more.

But how? Wednesday did not improvise, she did not let herself go, and above all, she did not flow. Their relationship was working fine, but she couldn't be actively romantic without overthinking all of her gestures and without being too obvious. Maybe that would bother Enid, being too obvious, given the organic, mutely settled nature of their relationship?

She therefore had to think of ways to increase her romanticism in a subtle and gradual way. She could do it. She could be subtle. She could flow.

That's why Wednesday used her new phone device to find information on how to do it. Thus, she found several articles, pages and blogs about tips to be a better girlfriend, in which they explained situations and advice in different areas to help boost the relationship.

Splendid.

She wrote down in her research notebook the ones that were repeated the most in each one, since if statistically they appeared in more than one source it meant that they had to be empirically more reliable, and therefore more successful.

Now she just had to put them into practice.

~

Wednesday listed the different tips to make it easier to follow. She was pleased that they focused on the areas she had specifically observed for her conclusions, which precisely reinforced her investigation.

“Differentiate between normal hangouts and actual dates to accentuate the romanticism of the latter”, she had written down. It seemed easy to follow to begin with. It would also help her see if there was a difference between them, something she hadn't really found with her time spent with Enid.

One rainy afternoon when they were both in the library doing homework. It was peaceful and pleasant, just them, their books and the comfortable silence, only broken by the turning of Wednesday's pages and the tapping  of Enid's pastel highlighters.

“Enid”, Wednesday called suddenly.

“Hmm?”, the blonde hummed as she finished underlining a paragraph.

“Would you consider this a 'study date'?”, she asked.

Enid raised her head and looked at her in surprise, before a soft smile formed on her face.

“I guess so. Why you ask?”

Wednesday just shrugged nonchalantly.

They returned to the silence in which they found themselves and studied until nightfall.

Check.

Okay, next one.

“Propose doing new things together”.

That could be a bit complicated. The girls were complete opposites. While Enid liked group activities, loud music, and socializing, Wednesday preferred silence, secluded places, and time spent alone. She also had to find something that was easy to plan and not too cumbersome, so that it would appear that she had improvised the plan or that she was proposing it without expectations of fulfilling it by a set date. Hmm.

Her epiphany came in the form of a flier trampled on a wet Jericho sidewalk.

“Enid”, Wednesday called the next day when she returned to their room after finishing her classes.

Enid had arrived a while ago, and she was in her bed, still in uniform, scrolling down tiktok. She raised her head and smiled when she saw her roommate enter.

“The Weathervane is announcing a new drink on its menu with added turmeric”, Wednesday deadpanned.

“Cool! Do they serve golden lattes now?”, Enid exclaimed, sitting up from the colorful duvet. “I've always wanted to try it”.

“That's precisely why I'm telling you”, Wednesday looked away for a moment before continuing. “I thought about suggesting you go and try it… together”.

It took Enid a moment to answer.

“But you don't like sugary drinks”, she pointed out, tilting her head.

“True”, the shorter girl agreed. “I despise them, but I think that the addition of turmeric will give a special flavor to the drink that makes me somewhat curious. Furthermore, I thought that doing it both and discussing our visions on the matter could be, what do you call it, a bonding experience”.

Enid tried to conceal an excited squeal as she ran to get her shoes and jacket.

Check.

Wednesday ended up hating said golden latte, but just spending the afternoon with Enid and seeing her smile every time she looked at her behind the cup made it completely worth it.

“Make everyday moments special”.

A tricky one. Wednesday felt that every moment she spent with Enid was. But how to let the other girl know?

The timing was deliciously convenient in this case.

Every evening before the full moon nights, they took a walk together in the forest. Enid was simply too anxious about her incoming transformation, and disconnecting for a while, walking in silence or chatting to distract herself, was good for her.

Wednesday could also see how her roommate's senses were sharpened those days, how the normally clumsy blonde moved with agility and naturalness through the forest, how her blue eyes seemed to shine brighter and her fangs lengthened as they approached the sunset.

“We should wear the snoods”, the brunette said before leaving the room.

"But you said they were for special occasions only," Enid replied with a raised eyebrow.

“Isn't walking together through the forest before the full moon already special enough?”, Wednesday said monotonously, but with an almost imperceptible shine in her  dark eyes.

Enid chuckled and pulled the pink garment over her head, smiling widely as Wednesday did the same with her black one.

Check.

That night the wolf refused to take off her snood even after the transformation, the garment hanging from one of her ears as it was too small for her animal head. Wednesday smiled at her from the darkness as she watched her give her her best howl to date.

One phrase that literally every article referred to was ‘spicing things up in the bedroom’.

However, the information they subsequently gave was ambiguous and inconclusive. Some used meaningless use of emojis, while others simply signed the paragraph with “;)”

Although the clues were not the most precise, they did give Wednesday an idea, to put it together with another point she had noted down: “giving small tokens of your appreciation just because”.

Enid always used terrible and obnoxious artificial vanilla candles on her side of the room. At first Wednesday found them unpleasant, but soon she learned to associate the smell with the safety of their room and with the blonde.

She then thought that she could give her some handmade chai candles that she had found at a market as a gift. The spicy smell of cinnamon, cardamom, star anise and cloves was equally sweet but much more interesting than the vanilla ones.

Furthermore, changing their smell could also give meaning to the change in stage they had experienced, going from a friendship to a romantic relationship. Smell was very important to werewolves, so Wednesday hoped she would appreciate the gesture.

She left them on Enid's desk wrapped in a black bow before leaving for class, and at night she saw that she had already tried them, a pleasant spicy smell enveloping the room.

“Thanks for the candles, roomie, I really like them”, Enid smiled sheepishly at her from her bed, where she was working on the laptop with her legs crossed.

Although she wasn't sure that she had completely completed what her article said, Wednesday nodded and walked over to her desk to cross out another point.

Check(?)

One of the most frequently repeated pieces of advice was precisely the use of “terms of endearment”. (She had underlined it twice).

She already knew that Enid used them in a varied and regular way, however Wednesday had a hard time thinking about how she could name her girlfriend properly.

She didn’t want to address Enid with the default ones that everyone used, repetitive and empty of meaning, like ‘darling’, ‘honey’, ‘sweetheart’, etc. She had also thought about looking up words in other languages, but they reminded her too much of her parents and she didn't think she could handle becoming them.

Enid deserved to know how important she was to her, she deserved something totally unique and singular that in a single term could try to show everything she meant.

Luckily Wednesday was a writer. Her mental repertoire was full of vocabulary, and she soon found words that she just needed to be said at the right moment.

“Shit, I forgot my pencil case”, Enid cursed in a whisper one day in class. “Can I borrow a pen?”, she asked with a sheepish smile.

“Whatever you need I shall grant you, cornucopia”.

(An ancient allegory representing fortune, joy and prosperity. Enid was the virtue in her life, the hope for a safe and happy future, the abundance of goods and smiles with each passing day).

“I think I saw Eugene looking a little downcast as he was going to the hives”, Enid commented one afternoon when she returned to their room after lunch. “Do you think you could go check on him? I'm sure it cheers him up to see you”.

“You are right, Polaris”, Wednesday responded, taking her coat to go out. “Thank you for letting me know, I shall see you at dinner”.

(The North Star serves from time immemorial as a guide, as Enid was to her, showing her the light in the darkness).

“Ugh, I’m so tired of this essay”, Enid groaned from her desk. “Gonna take a walk to clear my mind, wanna come, Wens?”

“Let me grab my jacket and I will join you in a second, dear erythrocyte”.

(Also called red blood cells, they supply oxygen through the blood. Wednesday felt that when Enid walked into the room it was like a breath of fresh air. Enid had literally become a vital part of her life without realizing it).

“Ah, it's so sunny today!”, Enid grinned, closing her eyes to feel the rays of the spring sun on her eyelids. “I feel like eating on the quad!”

“I prefer to stay in the shade reading, but I hope you enjoy your radiation exposure, my hydrogen atom”.

(The first element of the periodic table and one of the essential elements for life. Not to mention that its plasma was what formed the sun, and what was Enid but a sun on earth?).

And so on.

After each of the interactions Enid looked at her briefly confused (clearly speechless and full of emotion at such praise) but without stopping smiling.

In fact, she even seemed to smile even more, the wrinkles in her eyes deepening slightly. Wednesday felt smugly satisfied with the caused effect and hid a smirk each time.

So, terms of endearment, check.

But then there was the dreaded issue of physical contact.

Wednesday could handle words. She was not the most advanced in loving words, but they were a field in which she could function.

However, everything she referred to touching was another story.

As she had well observed, she and Enid were in fairly frequent contact. However, given the wolf's extremely affectionate characteristics, she thought it was precisely an area she needed to work on the most.

She was sure that Enid would be happy to feel not only acceptance, but also approach on her part.

The most logical thing one could think of was kissing. Couples usually did it, and Wednesday would lie if she said she hadn’t ever thought about it. However, just thinking about actually doing it, made her feel like she was going to implode.

It didn't even occur to her to hold Enid’s hand (for some cardiac or hormonal reason when she thought about it her pulse accelerated and her hands became sweaty), so anything that meant initiating hugs or kisses was ruled out.

At least for the moment. She simply collapsed just thinking about it, couldn’t even begin to think of taking that step yet.

But there were other ways, and she decided to focus on her next point: “increasing affection and physical contact”.

She started with something subtle.

One day in class, she extended her leg to tap Enid's foot with her boot.

The blonde was startled at first as she looked up from the paper in which she was taking notes. Wednesday just glared at her. Enid looked back at the paper with a smile on her face, leaving the sides of their shoes touching the entire class.

That became a routine for all classes, just sitting together with the sides of their shoes touching. Sometimes Enid hooked her foot in hers. The brunette only looked at her out of the corner of her eye while the blonde smiled widely.

In addition to this, at lunchtime at the cafeteria Wednesday tried to do the same, or take advantage of the fact that they sat next to each other on the bench to tap her knee with her own, or let their thighs lightly touch each other.

Enid never said anything about it, she just looked at her and smiled.

Wednesday tried to keep up appearances, but the warmth that the blonde radiated and the smiles she gave her were enough for her to barely attend the rest of the lesson.

But that was the first step.

When Wednesday saw that her tactic was working and that she was able to maintain her composure enough with that small increase in contact, she decided to take action.

They were leaving a class in which they coincide and had another class together. Enid had stopped to tie her shoe and they were alone in the hallway, the rest of the students already on their way to the next classroom.

“Enid”, she called, once the blonde stood back up, while adjusting her backpack. “Would you like to hold my arm while I accompany you to the next class?”, she asked in a monotone voice, raising her bent arm.

The taller girl gave her a smile as bright as the sun.

“Don’t mind if I do”, she giggled, hooking her warm hand in the crook of her elbow.

Wednesday was downright proud of her progress. Not only did she dare to take each step but she seemed to have positive results. Enid was getting closer to her, and smiling more. (Not that she actually counted her girlfriend's daily smiles, but she could notice the increase in them in those last few weeks.)

One night she was feeling especially confident.

It was one of their ‘movie dates’, they were sitting with their backs against the headboard of Enid's bed, watching in the blonde’s laptop at their feet a generic movie that Wednesday wasn't paying much interest to.

The brunette was with her back straight and her legs crossed, as she always sat, but Enid was much more relaxed, hugging one of her many stuffed animals while curled up on the colorful duvet. Halfway through the movie she had let her head fall on Wednesday's shoulder without saying anything. And the Addams Girl thought about accepting the gesture and letting it go.

But she felt that she could do something more.

Very carefully and with her eyes still ahead, she raised the hand that was closest to Enid and placed it on the blonde hair. With an equally cautious movement, she began to gently stroke the tousled locks. For a moment she worried about being invasive, but soon she received a pleased hum from the other girl.

They stayed like that until the end of the movie and even part of the credits, when Enid sighed and sat back up. She turned off the laptop, they said goodnight and each went to sleep in her bed.

Wednesday stared at the ceiling with a small smile before falling asleep.

An incredibly successful maneuver.

Check, check and check.

~

Wednesday was incredibly pleased with her progress. She had continued her efforts for a total of twenty-seven more days, and her girlfriend's response had been evidently positive, smiling widely and glancing at her in the crowd each time, making Wednesday's heart swell in her chest each time her glances crossed.

She felt how she and Enid were spending more time together and closer. She hadn't dared to increase the number or duration of hugs from the one already pre-established by their unspoken agreement, but she was willing to accept more if Enid made the first move.

See? Wednesday Addams could totally go with the flow.

Neither of them had taken significant steps or made any mention of their current status quo. But everything was running perfectly, smoothly.

However, everything changed one afternoon when she returned from class.

Enid was typing on her laptop at her desk, and she turned in her chair to greet her once she entered the room. Wednesday returned her greeting as she always did and headed to her own desk to empty out her backpack from the day.

“Wens, can I talk to you for a moment?, the blonde asked in a soft, nervous tone.

Wednesday had never heard her like that, she usually used to be very eager, (almost too eager) when it came to talking to her or asking her things.

“Of course, yes”, Wednesday rushed to answer. “What do you need?”, she asked with a worried frown.

“I've just noticed that you act…”, Enid began to say slowly, tilting her head, “differently around me, lately”.

“Have I done something to bother you?”, the shorter girl asked, with a sudden, unpleasant pressure on her chest.

“No, no, on the contrary”, the blonde moved her hands to emphasize it. She sighed and dropped them onto her lap. “It was just to know if there was a reason... in case you needed to talk about something”, she added, fidgeting with her hands.

Enid had noticed her efforts, but Wednesday actually had nothing to say, other than reassuring the blonde of her intentions to avoid future worries on her part.

“Do not worry, I don't need to talk about anything”, Wednesday replied, placing her papers on the desk nonchalantly. “I was just trying to be a better girlfriend”.

“A better what?”; Enid asked in a choked voice.

Her alarmed tone made the brunette stop what she was doing and turn to look at the girl across the room.

“Do you- Wednesday, do you think we're dating?”, Enid asked quietly.

A beat.

“Are we… not?”, Wednesday scowled.

Enid stared at her. Wednesday blinked once.

Oh.

“Uhm, no?”, the blonde replied very softly, almost in a whisper.

Her tone ended in a question, in doubt, confused. But the answer was overwhelming.

Wednesday had misunderstood everything.

She and Enid were not dating, never had been, and never will be.

Wednesday never thought she would ever have her heart broken.

At first it was because she thought she would never fall in love with anyone. Later it was because she believed Enid reciprocated her feelings and everything was fine. She never thought that Enid might hurt her, but she also didn't think that they weren't actually dating.

However she thought that a broken heart would feel somehow catastrophic, a catharsis in every sense where she would feel that the sky thundering above her head and the ground opening beneath her feet. A full-fledged apocalypse.

But what she felt in that moment was stillness, like when a needle falls to the floor and there is so much silence that it seems that that tiny sound echoes. She could only feel the air leaving her lungs as she stared into Enid's wide eyes.

She felt very ridiculous standing there. Her face burning, her cheeks burning in a pitiful blush, her breathing labored and her lower lip trembling.

She hadn't cried in ten years, and she wasn't going to do it now.

So she turned around and walked quickly towards the door with her eyes lowered. She didn't expect a colorful mass getting in her way. Damn werewolf reflexes.

“Wait, Wednesday, talk to me please, I just wanna- I just wanna understand”, Enid said in the softest voice. Her breathing also seemed to be labored, nervous. “You never told me anything, I didn't know anything, I- Why did you think we were dating?”

Wednesday couldn't respond. If she opened her mouth, the lump she was holding in her throat would unravel. And only God knows what that could lead to.

So she did the only thing she could think of. She turned on her heels, pulled a well-thumbed notebook out of her desk drawer, and handed it to the girl in front of her. Giving your heart to someone had never felt so literal.

If she was going to expose herself like that in front of Enid, she could at least go all in.

~

Enid had been moving her eyes rapidly between the lines of each page for about eleven minutes, her eyebrows raised and her jaw clenched. Wednesday watched, from where they were both sitting on the edge of her bed, as the blonde went through all of her observations, asterisks, clarifications, questions, ideas, arrows, signs, schemes, diagrams, hypotheses and conclusions.

The gladiators waiting for Caesar's verdict had to feel less pressure than she was feeling at that moment.

After another agonizing minute, Enid closed the notebook and placed it on her lap, her palm spread over the cover. She looked straight ahead, inhaling and exhaling slowly twice before opening her mouth.

“How didn't I realize it before…?”, she murmured.

Wednesday felt like the walls were getting closer. Enid was surprised, stunned, flabbergasted, devastated, to find out that she had interpreted their relationship as something romantic. Now she would want to get away from her as much as possible, break any friendship they might have had, immediately ask for a room change-

“How long have you been using this notebook?”, Enid asked quietly, looking at the notebook still protected in her hands.

“Two months and twenty-three days”, the brunette answered. Since she was going to disappear from all social life, change her name and probably move to some remote corner of South America, it seemed only fair to at least come clean. “Although my observations date back four months and eleven days. I have been applying my improvement attempts for the last forty-seven days”.

Surely her uncle Fester knew good caves to hide in. Later she would ask him from the crystal ball. But only after at least two days of suffering, mourning and self-pity, of course.

Enid nodded slowly and finally turned to look at her.

“Oh Wednesday, I feel so stupid”, she whined, squeezing the notebook in her hands.

“I apologize, at no time have I wanted to do you any harm, Enid”, Wednesday squirmed in her seat, uncomfortable at finally confronting with words who she once thought was her partner, “I have simply misinterpreted the situation and read too much-”

"I don't feel stupid because of that, silly," the blonde sighed softly, shaking her head.

“Then why?”, Wednesday frowned, confused.

“Because I'm in love with you and I've had to realize because of this”, she replied, her tone tense and serious, picking up the notebook and putting it between them.

“... What?”

Her erroneous observations apparently were… correct after all?

“You're right, Wednesday, everything you put here is true”, Enid sighed, tapping the cover with her finger. She stammered when she spoke. Wednesday had never seen her so nervous. “At first I thought you were flirting but thought it was all in my head but it did made me rethink stuff, so that’s why I asked you if something was up, but… I just see it so clearly now, I just-I love spending time with you, I clearly treat you differently than the rest, and, and you make me feel something that no one else has made me feel. Like, I don't even know how to explain it and- And I wasn't even realizing- Wait, why do you think I was so quiet a minute ago?”, she asked, interrumpting her own rambling.

“I thought you were angry at me and you were planning your impending revenge”,  Wednesday muttered.

“No, silly,” the taller girl chuckled, leaving the notebook on the bed. “I was rethinking my entire existence and reviewing the last few months of my life. I’ve been having the best secret girlfriend in the world and being too blind to even notice”.

Wednesday nodded and kept fidgeting with her hands nervously, trying to hide her blush.

“Oh gosh…”, Enid muttered beside her.

“What is it?”, the brunette frowned.

“Nothing, I just found out I’m in love with my best friend and- and that she likes me too, y'know?”, she chuckled nervously, “I need a minute to take it in”.

Wednesday hummed.

“And I just found out we weren't dating even though I thought we were, although in reality you've been liking me all this time without knowing it”, she said. “I also… need a minute”.

They sat there for a moment, Enid chuckling nervously, looking at Wednesday, who was still staring into space with a deep scowl.

“So it is correct to state that we are now… officially dating?”, the Addams girl asked, pausing for a moment before looking up.

“Yeah, Willa”, Enid answered with a soft voice and a smile that could eclipse the sun a thousand times. “Although it seems we've been dating for four months now”, she chuckled.

“And eleven days”, Wednesday added. “Or thirteen, if you take into account the first time you held my hand”.

“And what if we take into account today instead?”

“I believe that would be adequate”, the shorter girl hummed.

Another beat of silence.

Enid sighed and folded her legs to put them on the bed to hug her knees.

“There is one thing where you’re wrong, though”, she slowly said with a sigh, slightly bitting her lower lip. “I'm- I'm too insecure to assume things, Wens, I wouldn't go out with you without talking about it first… I’m still wrapping my head over the fact that you actually like me”, she shook her head, considering. “I'm not as cool as you think, or laid-back or anything, I probably need to ask you to reassure me every now and then because I- you know, I still struggle with feeling accepted and loved and… that kinda stuff”.

Wednesday shook her head and moved to sit an inch closer.

"I can reassure you", she said quietly, looking at her hand as she slowly reached out to take one of Enid's. “When you need, I mean, you can tell me, and I will”.

She very carefully squeezed her hand, and saw how the blonde's worried expression transformed into a soft smile. Enid broke her pose and sat cross-legged, staring in awe and playing with the small hand that kept her anchored.

“I apologize that my hands are sweaty”, Wednesday murmured blushingly.

Enid chuckled at that and squeezed her hand back.

"And I'm sorry I've been unconsciously sending you mixed signals for months", she huffed, rubbing her face with embarrassment.

She started gently rubbing the shorter girl’s knuckles with her thumb, and Wednesday exhaled slowly through her nose.

“What do we do now?”, she asked.

“We promise to communicate a lot from now on!”, Enid replied with a determined gesture. “Any questions we may have-”

“Or any insecurity”, the brunette added.

“Exactly! We tell each other”, Enid nodded.

“Sounds right to me”, Wednesday, hummed.

Enid hesitated for a moment, biting the inside of her cheeks, before speaking again.

“And also… could I give you a hug?”, she asked.

Wednesday didn't respond. She simply let go of the hand she had held and wrapped her arms around Enid's neck. The blonde soon reciprocated the gesture and brought her closer, squeezing her arms around her waist. She sighed, letting herself be enveloped by the aroma of lavender shampoo, and gently placed a kiss on Wednesday’s temple.

“Was that okay?”, she asked in a whisper.

The brunette silently nodded as she nuzzled her neck.

They broke the hug and looked at each other.

"Ahh, I'm so excited," Enid smiled giddily. “I love you so much, Nes, like, so so much. I can't believe we're girlfriends”.

“It brings me joy, too”, Wednesday nodded. “I love you immensely as well, Enid”.

The beeping of her alarm clock brought them out of their reverie.

“Oh, it's your writing time, right?”, Enid said, getting up.

“Yes, I have to continue, if you don't mind”, said the brunette doing the same.

“Of course, babe”, she kissed her temple before going back to her side of the room, “I’ll just vibe here and think of ways to woo you as well”, she winked from her desk.

Wednesday hesitated a few steps before sitting down.

"I still have to get used to… those nicknames", she murmured, surrendering to the blush that continued to occupy her cheeks.

“Speaking of nicknames”, Enid said, turning from her table, “what's that you called me at dinner yesterday?”

“Tardigrade. Was it not appropriate?”

“Yeah, no, it's, uhm, cute. We’ll figure it out”, the blonde smiled, wrinkling her nose. “Say hi to Viper from me, 'kay? I’ll be over here”.

Wednesday nodded once before turning and setting her typewriter up for her writing session. But before getting to work, she took the worn-out notebook she had been working with for months and put it in her desk drawer.

She just wouldn’t need it anymore.
