Work Text:
Phoebe groaned as another series of coughs wracked her body, her lungs feeling like they were getting punched from the inside. She reached up a hand to her bedside table and grabbed a fresh tissue from its box and used it to wipe her nose. Her head felt heavy with congestion and she dropped it onto her pillow with another dramatic groan.
It was bad enough that she was sick but also being unable to go ghost hunting made the whole situation even worse. She understood that she was in no shape to be lugging around a dangerous radioactive, energy spitting proton pack in her current state but not being out there doing what she loved because of some stupid cold was the worst feeling.
Her brooding was interrupted by the feeling of someone twirling one of her hair curls. The fact that she couldn’t see anyone near told her exactly who it was, she let out a small smile as she felt invisible fingers working through her hair.
“Hey you” Melody said as she materialized right beside the bed, her transparent form kneeling right next to Phoebe's head.
“Hey” Phoebe groaned in a scratchy voice, leaning her head closer to the petting fingers “I envy you, I bet ghosts aren’t capable of catching a cold”
“aww you poor thing” Melody chuckled softly as she flashed a sympathetic smile “no not having to worry about getting sick is a plus, but trust me it isn’t worth it”
Phoebe let out a whine as Melody continued to affectionately pet her, the two silently gazing into each other’s eyes for a long moment before the silence was broken by Callie poking her head through the open door
“Hey Phoebs, I thought I heard -'' she started saying and then paused when she saw Phoebe wasn’t alone. “Oh, hey Melody”
‘Hi Ms Spengler” Melody waved “hope you don’t mind, I just kinda let myself in”
“Eh, it’s alright,” Callie said “It's not like we haven’t had ghosts living in our attic for weeks, we’re used to surprise visitors. You planning on staying long?”
“For a while’ Melody said as she playfully booped Phoebe’s nose “want to make sure this little trouble maker isn’t going to do anything that will get her even more sick, we have a date this weekend.”
“I’m not a troublemaker!” Phoebe whined
“Yes you are” Melody and her mom responded in perfect sync, earning them a pout from Phoebe. The two of them giggled affectionately at her expense.
“I’ll leave you girls to it then” Callie said with a smile before closing the door, leaving the pair alone in the room.
“You’re really gonna stay?” Phoebe asked after a fit of coughs
“Of course, silly” Melody replied “what kind of girlfriend would I be if I didn't care for my adorable little scientist when she’s sick?”
Phoebe blushed, and not just from being sick “laying it on a bit thick, but thanks”
Melody leaned forward and kissed Phoebe. She couldn’t fully feel it, the sensation reminded her of the tingling someone feel when a part of the body falls asleep. She didn’t mind though, it was something unique and special that they had, and no one else
“Thanks Mel” Phoebe said as she settled back into her covers
“Anything for you Phoebs”
