Summary
As Gwen understood it, Elias Bouchard had been something of a disappointment to his parents and siblings – the entire family, really. The last time she'd seen her uncle was at a cousin’s wedding. She’d been a sullen teen grappling with her father’s recent death, hiding out with her Discman behind the venue. He’d drifted outside, too, equally displeased with the company within. Sat on the curb, they shared a joint and talked about Nietzsche. And then he never attended a Bouchard family event again.
Gwen had felt a little regret at that – but more relief.
Now, she leaned back against cold brick, and breathed in through her nose and out through her mouth. “Stupid,” she muttered. “Absolutely mental. Get a grip, Gwen.”
