Chapter 1: Prolouge

Chapter Text

The snow was blinding. Wind battered it around in tiny funnels of death. The clouds above grew darker every second, sending more and more shards of ice and snow raining down on them. The dragons were trying to protect them from the cold, but they also were starting to freeze. Without fire, their cold blood only made them turn to ice faster than the vikings.

“I don’t think we’re going to make it out of this storm, Hiccup…” Astrid shouted, having to yell over the wind. Hiccup was silent, only a far away look in his eyes as he realized he had no idea what to do...
In a final act of desperation the dragons parted from their riders, flying up into the squall. Webbed wings casting bleak shadows over the white landscape. They flew like vultures, trying to warm themselves in this frozen nightmare.

But without the dragons, the vikings were open to the bitter storm. Hiccup could barely remember how he had gotten here… He felt his entire body go numb, and his blood froze like ice. The only thing he knew at that moment was that there was nothing he could do for his friends or the dragons. He closed his eyes as the snow piled around them at alarming speed, the screams of snow wraiths echoed across the glacier. He felt one of his friends collapse in the snow next to him. Hiccup soon couldn't feel anything, or remember anything. And just like that, it was all gone.

Everything he was
and everything he had been,

was buried beneath snow.
