Work Text:
Yuuma glared at the punk standing across the hall, scrutinizing him. Satogiri Shuumei has been a pain in his and Hana’s sides for quite some time now, almost since they met when the school year started.
Who really is he, Yuuma wonders, as the punk presents himself in wildly different ways to the poor otaku. He was brash and irritating towards Yuuma, but when he talked to him as Hana, the punk turned into this sad little wet dog of a boy, always paying her back and blushing around her like he had a big fat cru—
Yuuma cuts off that line of thought before he goes past the point of no return. Theorizing about why Satogiri acts the way he does around Hana won’t actually get him any answers. It’s time to take action!
-
Hana stood across the street from her high school, a pensive look on her face. Was this dangerous? Incredibly! She could be caught at anytime by Shimazaki-shi, having forgotten to tell him what exactly she would be doing after school today. Not only that, but Hana doesn’t know anyone at this school, or even go here according to what Satogiri should know; which makes her super suspicious!
-
Shuumei rubs his eyes, blinks, then rubs his eyes again; unable to believe what he’s looking at. Hana (Hana!) is sitting outside of his school on a bench, seemingly waiting for someone.
“Hey, Yuzuru, slap me.” He says, not turning to look at the lime haired boy. Said boy sputters, confused.
“Uh, and why should I do that?” He asks Shuumei warily. He turns in his seat to stare at Yuzuru head on.
“I think I see Hana outside and I need to make sure I’m not dreaming.” He tells his friend, dead serious. Yuzuru chokes on his own spit hearing Hana’s name, not that Shuumei would know why, and leaps from his seat to the window. Shuumei glares at him a little, not sure what to do with his friend’s odd behaviour.
Yuzuru sits back down, paler than a sheet, eyes wide, and lets out a manic chuckle as he puts his head in his hands, muttering under his breath.
-
Yuzuru knew he looked insane right now, but he quite literally could not contain himself. What the hell is Hanae-kun thinking!?! Not that he cares about the nerd, but seriously what the heck is he thinking coming to school dressed as Hana !?!
Credit where credit is due, at least he isn’t inside the building and it is after school, but this is still a massive gamble!! It makes Yuzuru want to bang his head against the wall in sheer frustration. Why did Shuumei ever decide crossdressing to get a “girl” to like him was ever a good idea?
-
Shuumei and the newly arrived Kanoko watch Yuzuru with fascination as he seems to have gone completely dead to the world. Kanoko poked him for the fifth time to no avail. Shuumei suddenly remembers Hana outside and quickly returns his attention to the window. She’s still out there!!! The punk practically cheers, drawing the attention of Kanoko, who easily peers over his shoulder. He glares and huffs at the sight of Hana, making Shuumei roll his eyes.
“I’m going to talk to Hana.” He says to Kanoko more than Yuzuru. “Don’t you dare follow me.” He throws a reprimanding glare at the taller delinquent and sprints away.
-
When Hana sees the pink haired punk sprinting across the school yard, she has a split second thought of, ‘Oh, where’s he going?’. Then she realizes he’s coming straight for her and steels herself.
Calm down. He’s always super nice when you’re Hana. Just try not to look too uncomfortable. She tells herself.
Satogiri is panting when he reaches her, giving Hana the time to school her expression into one of neutral kindness.
“Uhm, hi Hana-ch— san. Hana-san.” Satogiri blushes, stuttering and stumbling over his words. Hana can feel herself cringe in embarrassment for the poor guy.
“Satogiri-san, what a surprise! I didn’t think I’d see you here!” She says, giving her best customer service smile. Satogir seems to wilt at the sight of it, confusing poor Hana.
“Ah, I suppose you were hoping not to see me?” He suggests, looking like a sad puppy.
No, you were exactly who I was looking for! Just tell me why you’re so different around Hana and I’ll be on with my day!!!
Hana tries to give Satogiri a gentle and confused look.
“I’m not sure I understand?” She says slowly, wondering if this really is the path she should follow in conversation.
“Well, you don’t like punks, right? And I’m not blind, I know what I am. But you’re so…” and Hana doesn’t hear the rest of what the pink punk says, wondering in near panic about how Satogiri could possibly know she doesn’t like punks.
Was she too obvious when she had interacted with him previously? Was it her expression? Her body language? As she stressed over that, Satogiri kept yapping; completely unaware.
“Anyways, I’m sorry for taking up your time. I’ll be on my way now. It was nice to see you again, Hana-san.” Satogiri finally says, shocking Hana out of her stupor. She goes to call him back, stop him from leaving, but by then he’s already raced back into the school.
Defeated, Hana groans and starts walking home, deciding that there are easier ways of doing this.
-
Shuumei waltzes back into the classroom happier than a clam, ignoring Yuzuru’s struggled grunts as he holds Kanoko back from full body tackling the pink haired punk.
“What’s got you grinning so sappily?” Yuzuru quips, grunting as Kanoko easily slips from his hold and latches onto Shuumei.
“Hana talked to me. And it was more than a hello, she let me actually sit and talk with her!” Shuumei beams. Yuzuru closes his eyes with a smile. Maybe Soumei’s angelic-ness was rubbing off on his older brother. Yuzuru hears a grunt from Kanoko, likely being thrown off of Shuumei, and decides to take back his earlier statement.
