rebellious flight

Summary:

‼️ SNIPPET CONTAINS BOOK 7 SPOILERS ‼️

"rebellious flight" a lilinorvan (🦇🐉🖤) short fanfic based on a story that Lilia talks about: the time Meleanor dragged him and Levan into her shenanigans. (Dynamic here can be read as purely platonic, familial, or romantic!)

Notes:

- Dynamic can be read as purely platonic, familial, or romantic!
- I made this at two am in the night so it's kinda mid AND might be OOC!
- It's a very short interpretation of what happened in one of the stories General Vanrouge told the Dream Quartet.

I uploaded this fic on Twitter last January 13 of this year! During the time, I didn't have my AO3 account on which is why I didn't upload it here. But now that I have one, I plan to post most of my TWST fanfictions on this website!

Work Text:

"Arrgh..!! MELEANOR! You are going to get us into trouble!!"

Lilia’s voice nearly fell deaf on their ears from the pressurised air that blew through their bodies, the wind picking up speed as they flew across the sky. He knew far better than anyone that Meleanor's hearing could pick up even the sounds of rustling from a bird's nest even from high above, but on her own will, blatantly chose to ignore his complaints.

He couldn't tell what was more frustrating; the fact that she was completely dismissing his thoughts on the matter or the fact that her stubbornness was a force to be reckoned with. From the years he spent under the supervision of the Draconians, he noted that their persistence had to be something within their genetics. I mean, none of them actually listened to whatever he had to say so far. They were ill-tempered, hard headed, and resolute when it came to their own choices. But Meleanor…

For sevens sake’, she was an obdurate child. And that statement was quite funny coming from the young bat faerie who was given the responsibility to watch over her, even though he too, was a child amongst faerie kin alike. Sometimes, he would pray that the night's blessing bestow him the virtue of patience because it was certainly being put to the test these days.

However— the sounds of her sudden burst of laughter snapped him out of his thoughts, bringing him back to the reality he found himself in. Hearing her like this sent an odd sense of ease to Lilia despite his frustrations against her actions. He knew he was not supposed to feel this. In fact, he had every right to scold her even more for being this careless, especially as the Princess of the Land of Briar, the next-in-line to Queen Maleficia. But seeing the carefree smile that graced her lips with child-like joy and excitement made him feel..conflicted.

There was something about her smile that made him feel a little more content about their predicament even if it should not. And Levan– although at first was worried and perhaps a little more frightened about this rebellious act– joined in Meleanor's laughter as they soared higher, making the mountains below them look smaller as they grew further apart from the earth. Lilia did his best to watch them from behind making sure to keep an eye out for any unknown threats. He could not help but steal glances between Levan and Meleanor as they laughed, giggled, and cheered with little care for the consequences, especially on Lilia's part as the knight in training. He knows that he'll be the one receiving most of the scolding from Queen Maleficia and the others in the counsel. And yet….

Somehow, the world seemed brighter when he was with them.
