Chapter Text
Enhypen was the perfect group. Stunning visuals and even better vocals and they were so close. Right?
What people didn’t know was that somehow they formed a relationship with each other, platonic or not.
It began with Jake and Heeseung openly kissing each other in the living room. Then it was Jay and Jungwon cuddling, Sunghoon and Heeseung once again kissing in the open, Ni-ki and Jungwon spending a lot more time together. Everyone had their group, except Sunoo.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to be held and loved because he really wanted to be. It was just the other members seemed to fit in perfectly. Like puzzle pieces and he was that one piece from a different puzzle.
One night in particular they were all huddled up, watching a movie. Sunoo walked in from having woken up from his sleep and poured himself a glass of water.
Jake walked into the kitchen, standing behind him and wrapping his arms around the younger’s body. Sunoo practically froze. What is happening?. Then he felt Jake kiss him on his forehead, a grin on his lips. “Hello Sleeping Beauty” He said.
“Hi?” Sunoo replied, confused and still dazed. “Are you gonna come watch the movie with us?” Jake asked. He tilted his head so he could look at him. Their faces were inches apart, too close for comfort. Sunoo gulped. “Y-yes” He answered.
Jake grinned brightly. “You can cuddle with me!” He exclaimed, practically dragging him to a couch. He sat down, patting the spot next to him. Reluctantly, Sunoo sat down. Almost immediately he felt Jake lay down on his lap as he continued watching the movie. To say Sunoo was flustered was an understatement.
From there they began including Sunoo more into their groups. He was happy because he wanted this, right? He wanted to be held and loved and they were doing exactly that but why did it still feel like he was intruding.
Somewhere along the line they began distancing themselves from him again. They stopped including him, they stopped inviting him on their hangouts and it broke him.
It was as if it was just them in their own world and Sunoo unfortunately wasn’t part of their world. He stood behind the glass, knocking and yelling but to no value they ignored him.
He was too scared to confront them but he knew if he didn’t then it would just break him more. He braced himself, pacing in their shared room before he walked out and into the living room.
The first thing he noticed was Jay and Sunghoon in the kitchen, talking and laughing. Ni-ki and Jungwon were sitting at the kitchen island, watching something on Jungwon’s phone and Heeseung and Jake were spooning on the couch.
Sunoo watched them. It looked so perfect, balanced. He was having second thoughts and turned around but stopped. If he won’t confront them now when will he ever.
He marched into the living room and stopped right in the middle of the room. “Guys we need to talk” He announced. Six pairs of eyes looked at him, all curious and surprised. Sunoo felt a pit in his stomach. He took a deep breath, calming his nerves.
“Oh, alright then” Jungwon said as he got up from his seat. Soon they all sat in the living room, patiently waiting for him.
Sunoo stood in front of them, his hands clutched at his sides. “I-Um” He took in shaky breaths as his voice refused to work. “Recently, I’ve been noticing you guys have been distancing from me and it’s been bothering me a lot and I want to know if I did anything wrong or something” He rambled, looking down at the floor.
He heard someone scoff as he looked up. Some of them looked annoyed and the rest indifferent. Sunghoon seemed more annoyed than the rest. “Really? You're upset because you’re not getting attention?” He scowled.
“Pathetic, really,” Sunghoon said. Sunoo felt tears well up. “That’s not what I meant,” He said. Heeseung rolled his eyes, standing up as he towered over the younger. “That’s exactly what you meant. Stop acting like a child, Sunoo. We have schedules so excuse us for being so busy to not play with you” There was venom laced in hsi tone that made him scared.
“Yeah that’s true. We’ve been busy a lot these days” Jungwon said. Ni-ki just nodded, not having said a word. Jay glared at him and Jake seemed out of place, watching them with an emotionless expression.
“See? So grow up and stop being whiny” Sunghoon retorted. Sunoo clenched his fists, the dull nails digging into his skin. “I am not whiny” He whispered. “Speak up, Sunoo. We can’t hear if you’re mumbling”
“I am not fucking whiny, I am not childish! I just want to know why all of the fucking suddenly you guys are acting like I don’t exist!” He yelled. Their eyes widen in both shock and disbelief. Sunghoon chuckled. “This is why! This is why the fans hate you, why you barely get any solo shots or brand offers. It’s because you are a child. Nobody cares about you because you act like some whiny feminine fag and quite frankly it’s uncomfortable to witness!” Sunghoon yelled back.
There was a tense air in the room. For a second it seemed like everyone froze. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he felt his throat tightening up. Sunghoon’s anger faded quickly as guilt took over. “Wait Sunoo, I didn’t mean that” He tried to apologise.
“Don’t kid yourself. You meant every word” He spat; his throat hoarse. He wiped away his tears as he walked away. “Sorry for being such a fag, Hyung. I promise it’ll never happen again” He threw the door closed behind him.
He slide down onto the floor, holding his knees to his chest to silence his sobs. He heard knocking and desperate pleas to open the door, but he didn’t move. He sat there until it was night.
By then the tears stopped coming and all that came out were dry little hiccups. He was tired and felt sick to his stomach. He always knew that he acted too feminine, but it was who he was. It was how he was used to acting and hearing that it made the members uncomfortable, just broke him.
He breathed heavily, placing a hand on his chest to calm himself. This was a bad idea. He should have just stayed quiet, accepted the truth that he would never fit in.
But he liked being an idol. He liked making his fans smile and laugh. He liked singing even if he barely got any lines and dancing with his members, now…
What was he supposed to do now?
The whole night he pondered over it and every time his mind circled back to the same thing. Becoming a solo artist. He always thought he would never be capable but now he was confident. He’ll leave Enhypen and begin a new, still doing the same thing but alone.
He smiled at the idea. He could become his own person and be free.
After that night he began talking to his manager about it. At first they were displeased with the idea and kept warning him it could end with him no longer being an idol. Still Sunoo was determined.
After months of practising and writing his own songs he finally got the chance to debut as a soloist. He left Enhypen a couple months prior and since then he’s barely talked to any of them, but it didn’t matter.
He was happy. After almost three years of being the outsider he’d finally have his moment. The lights became a light blue as the platform began lifting. The crowd was small-ish but soon they’d grow. “Hello everyone! I am Sunny!” He announced into the mic as the crowd cheered.
