Chapter Text

Red had been paying attention to Ash more lately. Specifically, after he gave Ash the red poppy he picked off the grasslands on his way to meet the aforementioned man.

Everytime he saw Ash, the small crimson poppy was always on his suit, positioned in the left jetted pocket on Ash’s chest.

Quite frankly, Red found it endearing, it was like he staked a claim on Ash with that poppy, even if no one knew the poppy was from Red, it was subtle, and he appreciated that.

But Red, ever the businessman, will always crave for more, which led to Ash receiving a large bouquet of roses the next time Red decided to visit again.

“Dude, what the fuck?” Ash yelled when a bouquet was shoved in his arms the moment he opened the doors.

He shrugs, “What?”

“What the hell is this?” Ash questioned in an incredulous tone.

Red rolls his eyes, “A bouquet of roses,” His arms gestured at said flowers, “Duh.”

Leaving Ash still confused in his doorway, he pushed him out of the way slightly and invited himself inside the familiar base, which was in Red’s opinion, poorly decorated. Could use some red roses, Red thought.

Quickly, Ash glitches right in front of him, still clutching the bouquet of roses, “Red, what-”

“Are you that fucking stupid?” Red butted in, “It's some fucking roses how hard can it be to acknowledge that.”

Red wasn't, per say, angry, but if Ash continued being this dense, he was getting irritated.

“You-” Ash let out a sigh, “ WHY YHE FUCK ARE YOU GIVING ME ROSES??”

There was a moment of silence after Ash’s outburst, and Red just blinked slowly a few times before answering, “Because why the fuck not?”

“I literally don't need flowers-”

“And I never said you needed flowers-”

“Would you just shut up,” Ash paces the room, “Get out.”

Red, strangely compliant, got out of Ash’s base. The response he got from Ash after giving him a bouquet wasn't,  well, the best, but Red had seen worse reactions from Ash before.

―――

When the temporary ban on Ash's base was over, Red quickly made his way over, ditching the flowers this time.

Ash let him in with an exasperated look, clearly thinking about what happened last time.

The last thing Red expected when he walked into Ash’s familiar base is a new decoration. And to add to his surprise, the new decoration was his bouquet of red roses, now trimmed and neatly arranged in a tall white ceramic vase.

“Damn Ash, so you do like the flowers-”

“I literally just didn't want to throw them away because it would be a waste-”

Red just looked at Ash and slid his black sunglasses down to make eye contact with him, “Whatever helps you sleep better at night, Ash.”

If Ash’s dark skin had blush creeping over it or that his glitch particles had increased tenfold after that, no one said a word about it.

It was only after that visit that Red started to bring bouquets every time he visited Ash, changing the variety everytime and seeing that his flowers would make an appearance the next time he visited, with even more flowers.

If Red thought Ash’s base was poorly decorated before, he thought that the base was decorated amazingly with the help of someone who knows how to actually accessorize spaces.

One thing he did ponder on, is how the flowers were living that long without wilting. The poppy he first gave to Ash is still sitting on the suit pocket, not even drooping and it seems as if every flower he had ever given to Ash acted the same. Which was in fact, weird, because the spots where he picked flowers from Ash would have some stray, forgotten, wilted flowers next to the patches; So it definitely wasn't his work in the never dying flowers.

Red didn't mind that everytime he were to visit Ash’s base, he would see every flower he had gifted the man before. Maybe Ash would also get his shit together and give him flowers for him to decorate his base with one day.
