Chapter Text
She isn’t always like this. Sometimes she wears her attitudes on her sleeve, most times she just tries to ignore the baseless rumors; So why is she wind up about it right now, you may ask. After all, she’s supposed to not care about it.
It all started a few months ago, when she met the new addition to their ‘town’. She was starting her morning as usual, waking up quite a bit early and preparing to find the content for her beauty page. She was sitting on the kitchen aisle, content on just scrolling page after page of the Pinterest board. However, much to her surprise, there was a knock on the door.
Only the mayor would knock on the door this early, she had thought. After all, he was the only one who would dare to be a nuisance on an early Monday morning.
“Haley,” Her sister called out from her bedroom, sleepiness evidence on her voice. “Would you mind answering the door, please?”
Ever so polite, even when that stupid mayor probably ruined her rest after last night. The girl thought to herself. Poor Emily, why did she choose to stay in this town again?
“In a minute!” She shot out her response, to both her sister and the not so wanted guest that was waiting outside their front door.
The girl stepped down from her chair, annoyance evidence on her face; If you had asked her what bothered her most that morning, the cold kitchen tiles or having to answer a door when she’s not presentable, she would pick the first one. She shuddered as she walked to the front door, silently reminding herself that she needed to make a habit of using inside slippers when she woke up in the early morning.
However she wasn’t prepared for a stranger to be standing in front of her door instead of the usual old and annoying mayor. While the stranger was standing there, the first thing she noticed was how the other person couldn’t be much older than she is. Moments later she finally realized that the stranger was smiling, extending her hands.
“Hi, I just moved into the old farm” She had said, her hands still extended with a smile. “I thought introducing myself to the folks here is a good way to start my day.”
Oh yeah, the new farmer that Lewis has mentioned a few days prior. The blonde girl thought to herself, her face still has a blank expression which is a clear sign that she was not exactly thrilled at her early disruption. The other girl, the farmer one, clearly noticed this and slowly retracted her hands.
“Oh, you’re the new farmer girl aren’t you? Huh” The blonde finally replied after a few silent seconds. “I’m Haley”
Seeing that Haley was not interested in answering her handshake, the farmer fully dropped her hand now. Nonetheless, her smile was still beaming when she responded with, “Hi Haley, it’s nice to meet you. My name is Lara.”
“Couldn’t say the same as you to be honest, Lara .” The blonde said, putting emphasis on her name as if to test how it would roll on her tongue. Or perhaps, just to express her disdain “Don’t you have a clock at the farm, or something? It’s way too early in case you didn’t notice”
“I’m sorry about that.” The farmer's smile faltered for a bit, out of embarrassment. “I guess I’m just way too excited to meet the community here.”
“Whatever, next time make sure not to drop by before nine. Not all of us have to wake up early.” Haley rolled her eyes.
“I will mentally note that” Lara smiled, with a slight nod. Haley finally took a good look at the farmer, who was dressed in a black shirt and cargo pants. She could see how there was dirt at the end of the pants and the boots, causing her to make a slight grimace at the sights.
“Hmm... If it weren't for those horrendous clothes you might actually be pretty.” Haley said without further thinking, and when she finally registered the words she said her eyes widened. “Actually, nevermind”
“Well, thank you?” The farmer, Lara, said awkwardly, although there was a slight blush on her pale cheeks. “I better get going now Haley, hopefully we can talk to each other again soon.”
But before Haley could respond, she started to walk away from the house; making the blonde even more peeved than she already was. What a weirdo Haley thought while closing the door, her eyes rolled once again. Haley made her way to the kitchen when she locked the door, her brain reminding her of the words she said to the farmer about her looks.
“This is why I don’t like talking to people before I’m fully awake.” She muttered to herself, while sitting back down in front of her laptop. She didn’t notice her sister was already up and awake, busy preparing breakfast for the two of them.
“Who was at the door, Haley?” Emily said, causing Haley to let out a slight surprised noise. “Why are you so surprised?”
“Because I didn’t see you!” Haley responded, eyes squinting at her sister.
“That’s on you, I was pretty loud here.” Emily pointed out at the sizzling bacon she currently cooked. “You didn’t answer my question though.”
“Oh, it’s the new farmer Lewis mentioned a few days ago, she was on a schedule to interrupt everyone’s sleep.”
“She's probably just excited to meet everyone. Don’t be dramatic Haley.”
“AT SIX IN THE MORNING?” Haley exclaimed, her eyes widening in disbelief. “Am I the only one sane in this town? Unbeliveable.”
Haley was met with silence, except from the sounds of Emily cooking and preparing her breakfast. The blonde just rolled her eyes and averted her full attention on her laptop, knowing that her sister was too distracted by the cooking to keep up with their conversation; Moments like these made Haley wonder if her decision to take a break and live at her old childhood house with her sister was a great idea. Haley knew that the people here are a bit different than people in the city, but she started to wonder if they are that different and whether or not she could handle it.
Before she could entertain her thoughts any longer, she finally found a content idea for her beauty page.
