Chapter Text
Amy was walking along the beaches of Seaside Island one afternoon. These last few days she had been busy with different day-to-day tasks such as shopping, home repairs, working and endless other things. So much so that she couldn't do anything but arrive home exhausted and go to bed to sleep. Her fatigue being so long, she not had time to visit her friends, so while watching the sunset she remembered that Tails lived nearby. Maybe giving him a visit wouldn't be such a bad idea.
Being in a good mood to go and say hi, she changed course and marked Tails' workshop as his next stop.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was already night when Amy arrived at her friend's workshop, around 8pm. The lights were on although there were no signs that anyone was nearby. Thinking that perhaps Tails was deeper inside, she began to walk around the workshop looking at all those wonderful machines that the little fox had built. Several were failures, but they did not detract from their geniality.
After waiting for several minutes she saw no sign of Tails anywhere, it seemed like he had simply left and forgot to turn off the lights. Seeing that Tails probably wouldn't arrive until several hours later, she thought she should go home and visit him tomorrow.
Before leaving Amy decided to look at one of the latest inventions Tails had been creating. It caught her attention quite a bit when she observed it from the distance so she wanted to get closer to see. It was on top of the desk, it had a lot of plans and writings around it although they couldn't care less.
Her curiosity grew at what seemed to be a ray gun, with a somewhat silly and childish design. Similar to the ones used in alien movies in the 60s. It seemed strange to Amy since that little guy didn't look like someone who would create a gun or those types of designs.
She grabbed the gun so she could see it closer, it was made of metal and had a coat of orange paint. Amy began to point it in different directions, pretending that she was an intergalactic traveler in a fight, typical of forming scenarios in your head.
In between all the fiddling she stumbled between her own legs and touched a button that apparently caused the ray gun to start working. It began to form a bright light at the tip. Like an apparent bad luck caused by the universe itself, the ray was thrown into a mirror that bounced back towards Amy herself.
Lying on the ground she turned to see. Amy at first did not notice any damage to her body, in general she did not even feel the lightning which caused her enormous relief. The only damage, if it could be considered that way, was from the fall itself.
She got up from the ground and when he turned to look for the gun he got a very bad surprise, it had been damaged by the fall. It seemed that the area where the lightning came out was more delicate than one might expect due to its weight thanks to the metal.
She left it on the desk and thought it was better to wait for Tails. This so she could explain to him everything that happened and pray that he doesn't get angry with her. She sat in a chair that was near the desk and that was what would have been a minute.
Amy started to feel a little strange, she felt like her clothes were a little baggier than usual. She didn't think much about it and concluded that it was simply the position she was sitting in or her clothes getting out of order. She stood for a long time just looking around waiting for his friend to arrive, but he just didn't appear.
"I wonder how long he's been doing, maybe he's in town shopping or he's just with the other guys. I should come tomorrow anyway, I don't think he'll arrive soon. Maybe he won't even arrive all night. Besides, I didn't receive no damage so it's not a risk. Still..." -Amy looked at the ray gun for a moment thinking about which option would be best until a light bulb went on in her head- "Hmmm, I know! I'll send a message, as it didn't occur to me before-"
Amy had forgotten that she left her intercom at home and that she didn't have it at that moment.
"Well, it looks like that's not an option. I might as well just do it the old fashioned way and leave him a note."
Amy looked over the desk and grabbed a small blank sheet of paper and a pencil to explain to Tails what happened and that she would come tomorrow to hang out with him since she hadn't seen him in a while. She left it there, started to leave, but noticed that now it wasn't just the clothes. Everything around her looked a little bigger and her clothes went from being a little baggy to falling off. She didn't know how all this happened without her noticing, possibly because of how slow the process was. Although it wouldn't make sense for everything to magically get bigger, quite the opposite, she was shrinking.
Amy began to get scared by such a revelation and began to look around for an explanation. Maybe it was Eggman's rather bizarre plan, although that didn't make sense since nothing had happened to her apart from... The gun, of course. All of this happened right after being hit by the ray gun.
By the time she realized that staying on the ground would be dangerous, it was too late. She couldn't get up to the seat next to the desk and when she saw that she didn't stop shrinking, her anxiety did nothing but grow. Because of so much pressure she began to feel dizzy due to the anxiety of continuing to shrink more and more. She started to run to the exit of the workshop. She believed that somehow someone would see her and everything would stop. For better or worse, she began to feel a very strong dizziness in her head and finally collapsed on the floor.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The peace that Amy felt lying on the floor made her forget for a moment the entire situation that occurred. Probably thinking that perhaps it was an exaggeratedly vivid nightmare, she simply arrived home very late and tiredness caused her to sleep on the floor. Unfortunately, everything that happened was more than real.
To make matters worse, it was still night and Tails still hadn't arrived. She thought she had slept a lot, but when she looked at the time on a clock on the wall, only about 40 minutes had passed. There was also the fact that she was still extremely small even though the shrinkage had apparently already stopped.
Trying to cope with what was happening she tried to stay calm by looking at herself. She was still exactly the same, with the only difference being extremely small. There was also a problem, it was that since the clothes she was wearing had become miniature, they no longer fit her. Since it was night, the cold began to affect her even more strongly than it should due to her size. She grabbed the fabric of her clothes as best she could and took shelter between them.
Amy began to doubt what height she was right now, so she looked to see if Tails left any measuring ruler lying around. In the distance he managed to make out one that was under a table so he grabbed his clothes and used them as a very long cape. Although his little plan didn't last long as she began to hear footsteps in the distance, it was Tails who had finally arrived.
Desperate, seeing that her salvation was around the corner, she ran to an area where she was visible and screamed at the top of her lungs. For some reason Tails couldn't hear her even using all her strength. When Tails entered he could be seen extremely tired, who knows what the hell he was doing so much. His expression quickly changed to one of shock when he saw that Amy's clothes were lying on the floor and so was her hammer.
"Amy, are you here?! - Tails screamed at the top of his lungs as he looked around.
Amy couldn't do anything but cover her ears thanks to the suddenly loud sound. Taking advantage of the fact that Tails was focusing at that moment on the clothes lying on the floor, she ran to where he was. Once there, she began to move it from side to side until Tails finally managed to distinguish it.
"AMY?!" - Tails crouched down to see the pink hedgehog more closely, trying to find out if all this was nothing more than a strange dream.
"Tails, I'm sorry, I came to visit you, but when I arrived you weren't there and-" -Tails could see that Amy was talking, but his mind only focused on strong static. How was it possible that a miniature Amy was talking to him, it was impossible. Maybe it was Eggman's plan is all he could think.
"TAILS, REACT!" - Amy shouted when she saw that she was being ignored.
With a strong start Tails shook his head in an attempt to refocus on what was happening. Returning his focus to Amy, he realized the situation, no matter how absurd it was. Apparently her friend had been shrunk and she was very scared.
"Eh- sorry, just... it was too much of a surprise. Like you, you know, you're... LIKE THIS" - making a very clear gesture that she was too small, the size of a doll.
"That's what I was telling you. I came to visit you, but when I arrived you weren't there so I started walking around your workshop to get bored. I found that ray gun on top of your desk and when I went to see it I turned it on without warning. It shot itself at me and after a while I ended up like this!" - After saying all that she began to take breath thanks to how quickly and frenetically she said it. Apart from looking at Tails with an expression of anger for having been ignored the first time.
"Okay, okay, calm down... first of all, you said that what caused everything was the gun I was making and I left it on the desk. Where is it?" - Tails said, trying to maintain his composure even though he was just as nervous as Amy.
"Yes... we have a problem there. I left it on the desk, but-" - Tails quickly looked around and stood up so he could grab the ray gun. "When I fell on the ground because I tripped... it ended up breaking"
Tails grabbed the gun and looked at it carefully. He looked back at Amy for a moment and started walking towards her again. He crouched down and extended his hand, making a gentle gesture for her to mount.
"Come, this way it will be easier to see what we can do" - Amy, without much hesitation and wanting to get out of that cold floor, placed herself in Tails' hand. He began to gently lift her up so she wouldn't fall and left her lying on top of his desk.
Tails sat near the desk and left the gun there without having much idea how he could reverse the effect. He looked through the notes he had about his invention, but sleep couldn't allow him to concentrate no matter how hard he tried. He knew how important it was to Amy, but he supposed that for one night it shouldn't be that bad.
"Hey and..."
"Hmm?"
"Where were you all this time, I waited here for almost an hour and you didn't arrive" -Amy said so that a topic of conversation would somehow come up.
"Oh, I was just with Sonic and Knuckles walking around the town, normal" -Tails looked very tired, as he spoke he did nothing but yawn and stretch. That response seemed to be more to avoid the passage than anything else.
Tails spent a moment observing what to do, but it seemed that his mind couldn't process what he was doing. "Amy, I know that getting back to your original size is the most important thing for you right now, but I really can't think of anything else other than sleep. Would you be okay with waiting until tomorrow to start looking for a solution? I'm sorry if It's not what you wanted to hear.
Amy looked at Tails with a look of confusion and fear. She really wanted to return to her original size now, but she understood that he needed to rest to be able to do so more effectively.
"But where am I going to stay until then?" - Tails didn't think much about it before proposing to wait, so he just decided to do the best option they had so far.
"Well, you can stay here with me if you want. Also now that I think about it, if we wait until morning we could tell the others to help us. I can also keep you safe, since being so small I doubt you can even fight with a little mouse" - Tails spoke as he got up from his chair and turned off the lights on his desk. Once everything was organized, he extended her hand again to Amy so that she could get on top of him.
Tails walked to the second floor that was in his workshop and there was his bed. Amy wasn't sure if she would even be able to sleep that night thinking about the same thing over and over again. Tails' room was not very spacious, but it was certainly cozy. Looking around, Tails remembered that there was nowhere for Amy to sleep at the moment. He left her on his nightstand and looked for some soft towels that he had stored in a drawer.
He folded them in a certain way in which they could simulate a mattress, pillow and a sheet.
All this to be able to simulate an improvised bed. It was going to be for one night anyway, so there wasn't much of a problem.
“Well, I guess you'll sleep here for the night. I'm sorry I can't help you now, it's just that I can barely stand up” – Tails said with a somewhat sad and pitiful tone while avoiding facing Amy.
“Why you say it as if it were your fault, I was the clumsy one who tripped and caused all this.”
*sigh* “Yes, but that doesn't mean that I was the one who created it and exposed it. What if I hadn't seen you? In that state you would survive a couple of days at most.
“Tails, stop being absurd and wanting to blame yourself for something stupid like this. Tomorrow I'll be back to normal, it's not too long” - Amy stood up with a small happy jump and like a little girl she spoke between laughs to hide her fear of staying like that. “Also, stop talking like I'm on the verge of death. I'm fine, see?
Somehow that calmed Tails and he just accepted what Amy was saying. With a sweet smile returned to his face he decided it was a good time for him to finally get ready for bed.
“Well, I'll sleep in the bed and you will sleep between the towels I put there. It's not the best, but it's better than sleeping with nothing. I'll go to the bathroom and that, focus on sleeping. Tomorrow we'll talk to the others about all of this and it will be back to normal before you know it. Also probably making you some simple clothes. Good night Amy.”
“Good night Tails… and thank you”
Tails left the room and closed the door softly. Amy lay down on the improvised bed her friend made and stared at the ceiling. She recapped everything that had happened to her in about two hours, she really didn't expect to have to end up sleeping in Tails' workshop being only the size of about five inches.
At least tomorrow everything would be normal so she did nothing but continue staring at the ceiling until finally her eyes were sealed and she slept soundly.
