Work Text:

Wolf was enjoying her first day off of school by watching a movie with Kipo that they had been excited to see for several weeks. They were sharing a blanket and a bowl of popcorn was placed between them. The bowl was almost empty, as Kipo kept stuffing her face with the snack unlike her little sister who took one or two every few minutes. Their eyes never left the screen, watching the scenes unfold in front of them as the movie just got more exciting by the second.

They didn't even notice when Song came home from work with one big bag in her arms. When she called for her girls, they snapped out of their trance and looked over at her.

"Hi, mom! What's up?" Kipo asked, pausing the movie as to not miss anything.

"I went by the mall on my way home and I got you something~" Song said with a grin on her lips, immediately catching her daughters' attention.

"What is it?" Wolf asked curiosly from her spot on the sofa.

"Come over here and see for yourself!"

The girls got up from the sofa and walked over to their mom. Song handed the bag to her girls and they excitedly searched through it to find the surprise. They ended up with two matching sets of pajamas. Kipo got a green one with red and whitecandy canes covering it. Wolf got a red one with green ornaments covering hers.

"These are so cute! Can we put them on now?" Kipo asked with a big grin, and Song nodded, returning the smile.

Wolf and Kipo hurriedly dressed into their new pajamas. They fit them perfectly and they were warm and snuggly. Both girls hugged Song as a 'thank you' and she couldn't help but giggle at their happiness.

The older woman shuddered, finding the house very cold during the wintertime. She decided to light the fire in the fireplace, sitting down on the floor in front of it before her daughters joined her.

"So, what have you been up to all day, girls?" Song asked, smiling as her daughters told her all about their day.

They had spent the day planning for Christmas and guessing what their presents were. Kipo was getting more and more excited. She could barely contain it. Wolf was calmer, but she had to admit that she was also excited to spend her very first Christmas with people that loved her. It would be a core memory for sure.

"I'll get you some hot chocolate. Stay right there!" Song stood up from her spot on the floor, moving to the kitchen.

Hot chocolate had become one of her children's favorite thing. They loved to sip on the sugary drink and would often ask for it.

After a few minutes, Song returned to the fire with three cups filled with hot chocolate. Kipo reached for her drink, and accepted it with a cheery 'thank you!' before handing Wolf her own drink. They blew in it, cooling it down until they could be sure that they wouldn't burn their tongues.

They drank in silence, enjoying each other's company. They didn't need to talk to have fun. Wolf was staring into the flames, comforted by its warmth. The milk in her drink was making her sleepy, and she found her eyelids drooping as she held back a yawn.

Kipo finished her cup of hot chocolate, putting the empty cup down on the floor. She was about to offer to take her mother's cup back to the kitchen sink as well as her own, when she felt a weight on her shoulder. Looking down, she found Wolf's head leaning onto her.

"Wolf?" Kipo asked in a quiet voice and Wolf replied with a soft snore.

Kipo's eyes softened as she realized that Wolf had fallen asleep. The older girl let her own head rest on Wolf's before she closed her eyes and let herself be taken by the land of dreams as well.

When Song turned her head to check on her girls, she found them deeply asleep, snuggling up against each other. She chuckled at them, standing up to grab a fuzzy blanket to cover them with.

She kissed their heads before returning to her seat on the floor, staring into the flames in front of her. She smiled. There were times where she wondered if she was good enough to mother three children. She hadn't been a human for 13 years and she had missed out on most of Kipo's childhood. It was in times like those that she felt like her absence didn't matter. Even though their family was unusual, but she wouldn't trade them for the world.

Because they were her world.
