Chapter 1: Prologue
Chapter Text
Roughly 2 years before the events of “The Dragonet Prophecy”
Steelblade was on his way to the orphanage to see if he could find a dragonet to help him feel less lonely. Steelblade was a Steelwing born thousands of years ago but for some reason, unlike the others who evolved into the different tribes of Pyyrhia, he didn’t. He could transform into them while still using his Steelwing form. His main form which he technically evolved into is a hybrid of the Sandwings and Rainwings which he named Sandstorm. He was using this form now as he flew on to MushyToad Orphanage.
“Ah you’re here.” Said a Mudwing who Steelblade presumed was Toadstool. “I’m guessing you’re Sandstorm?”
“Yup that’s me.” Steelblade replied. “I’ve come to adopt a dragonet.
“I assumed you were based on the letter you sent.” Said Toadstool. “There is currently only 1 dragonet here. Don’t have a name for him so I guess we’ll call him Boron. He is a small, lanky yet built Mud-Sky Hybrid. He’s golden brown with more Mudwing visible, but you can tell there is Skywing in him.”
“Take me to him.” Steelblade said. And they walked into another room where a 2 year old dragonet was sitting on a bed reading a scroll.
“I’ll leave you 2 to talk.” Said Toadstool as she walked out the door.
“What’s your name kid?” Steelblade said.
“I don’t have one.” Replied the dragonet. “I never knew my parents and Toadstool doesn’t talk with me much.” How sad.Steelblade thought
“How is Boron? Does that sound good to you?” Sandstorm asked.
“It’s a good name but what use is it if I'm just going to stay here for most of my life?” Boron responded. That is really sad. Reminds me of myself for thousands of years of loneliness. Steelblade thought.
“Now who says you're staying here?” Steelblade said. “You’re getting a new home today.”
“REALLY??” Replied Boron in a very excited voice.
“Yup I’m taking you with me.” Steelblade replied. And he watched Boron grab a container to pack up some of his scrolls very excitedly. Once Boron had calmed down a bit he met with Toadstool about paperwork. Or so he thought.
“You’re still here?” Toadstool asked surprised.
“Isn’t there paperwork I have to do?” Steelblade asked.
“Nope he’s yours.” Toadstool said. Steelblade was confused why there was no background check as he was an assassin in the scorpion den for about 12 years before now. “I can barely sustain myself. No less a dragonet. You’d think an assassin would pay better.”
“It paid well when I was an assassin. Now I run a restaurant.” Steelblade replied.
“Why’d you quit being an assassin?” Toadstool asked.
“The Sandwings sisters started noticing similarities in my assassinations. Started setting traps for me.” Steelblade replied. “Decided to lay low for a while.”
“That’ll do it.” Toadstool replied. After that they said goodbye and Steelblade and Boron started flying towards Prosperity.
“Where are we going?” Boron asked.
“I live and run a restaurant in Possibility.” Steelblade replied.
“Possibility? I’ve heard about that place. Apparently it has an exotic food restaurant that has employees from different tribes to get different kinds of food there.” Boron said
“Ha. That’s the place I run.” Steelblade said.
“YOU’RE THAT SANDSTORM??!?!” Boron asked excitedly.
“I’m the only Sandstorm in Possibility to my knowledge.” Steelblade replied with a laugh.
“Best day ever.” Boron said. Steelblade laughed again and thought he would never be lonely again. So long as he can protect Boron from the Sandwing sisters. Or more accurately. Burn, Blister, and Glacier. Everyone knows Blaze wouldn’t hurt another dragon. Especially if it was a dragonet. They all have a good reason to take a shot at Steelblade however.
Chapter 2: Chapter 1: Reality Check
Chapter Text
About a week before the nightwing volcano blows up.
“Hey Boron, it’s almost closing time.”
“Ok Steelblade.” Boron was one of 2 dragons that knew Steelblade’s secret. That he was a dragon of the original tribe known as Steelwings. The rest had evolved into the current tribes of Pyrrhia. Steelblade was one of a kind who didn’t evolve into one tribe. He could use all of them as different forms. His usual form was a Sand/Rain hybrid named Sandstorm.
“Steelblade. Boron. I’m here.” Steelblade turned towards the direction of the voice who turned out to be his friend (though he won’t admit it for their own safety) Toadstool. Toadstool was the other dragon that knew SteelBlade’s secret.
“Toadstool.” Steelblade said. “Been a few weeks hasn’t it? Well it's almost closing time so if you want something you better get it now.”
“Steelblade, we need to talk.” Toadstool said in probably the most serious voice Steelblade has heard them use yet.
“Hey Boron, you continue with the cleanup. Me and Toadstool are going to chat a bit. I’ll be in in a minute.” Steelblade said.
“Ok” Boron replied. Steelblade directed Toadstool to a table he had just cleaned.
“What is it.” Steelblade said flatly.
“Put away the act.” Toadstool said which caught Steelblade off guard. “I know you’re acting because we’re friends even though you won’t say it. And there better be a good reason for it.”
Steelblade sighed. This is what he didn’t look forward to but Toadstool caught him this time. “The reason I use “act” is because I’m trying to protect the dragons I care about from the Sandwing sisters. Which is only 2 dragons being you and Boron. But still. They know they can’t hurt me easily unless they find something I care about. And even though it may not look like it, a decent amount of dragons here will rat me out to any of the sisters just to get back at me.” Steelblade explained. “They have good reason to get back at me because in my assassin days I assassinated quite a few dragons and MANY others want to get back at me. They have a rough idea of it's me because it was always a Sandwing tail stab with no fight. Which a Rain/Sand hybrid can do easily.”
“So you’re just trying to protect us?” Toadstool said.
“Yes. It’s unfortunate and I wish some dragons could forgive and forget. But then again, Pyrrhia is in the middle of a war so that’s unlikely.” Steelblade replied. Sometimes Steelblade wished he could just hide amongst the other tribes but with almost the whole continent at war it was unlikely he’d be able to hide for long.
“Hmm. Well thanks for telling me.” Toadstool said. “There was something else I wanted to talk to you about.” Steelblade straightened up a bit because this could be serious. “I heard a rumor that Burn will be coming here with a good amount of soldiers.”
“Trying to get back at me I guarantee.” Steelblade replied. “Well I guess I need to prepare for that.
“Well good lu-“ Toadstool stopped mid sentence staring at something in the sky. Steelblade turned around and saw a massive black dot in the sky. But this was no stormcloud like usual. It was Burn and a quarter of the Sandwings that were on her side of the war.
“Scheisse.” Steelblade said under his breath. “Listen, you need to get out of here as fast as possible and don’t let Burn see where you came from.” He told Toadstool.
“What about you?” Toadstool asked.
“I’m done running from her.” Steelblade replied
Chapter 3: Chapter 2: Unexpected Eviction
Chapter Text
Steelblade waited for Burn to land outside the restaurant.
“You’re a bit late if you wanted something. Just closed up shop.” He said.
“Who says I’m here for a late night snack? Eh Sssssandssssstorm.” Burn said coldly.
“Well considering you can’t hurt me and there is no other reason to be here what else would I assume.” Steelblade replied flatly.
“Maybe I have finally found a way to get back at you for all of those assassinations you pulled.” Burn said with a mischievous grin.
“Is your arsehole jealous of the shit that comes out of your snout?” Steelblade said. He was pleased when a decent amount of dragons snorted out of laughter and Burn had this look of pure hatred on her snout.
“I hear you adopted a dragonet, no?” Burn said. Steelblade froze for a split second before focusing back onto the conversation.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Steelblade said hoping to lead Burn away from his adopted son Boron. “All I’ve done is hire an employee to help around here.”
“Oh but don’t you have plenty, Sandstorm.” Burn said. Steelblade couldn’t counter easily because he generally used his other forms as employees. “Oh wait, that's right. You aren’t a Sand/Rain hybrid.” Steelblade flinched as he wondered how Burn learned this information. “You’re a Steelwing. The only one who could change forms, no?” After she finished speaking she lunged with her tail. Steelblade blocked it with his arm and where Burn’s tailbard connected with his scales, they turned into the silver color of steel.
“Alright, you got me there Burn.” Steelblade responded as he transformed into his Steelwing form which was far more combat-like then any other Steelwing. Steelblade had 3 tails each with Sandwings barbs at the end and some blades that ran with his arms. “Still think you can beat me with your mini army here Burn. I’ll take you all on.”
“I don’t need to when I can just kill your dragonet.” Burn sneered.
“How many times do I have to tell you this Burn. That dragonet is nothing more to me than an employee.” Steelblade said hoping Burn would take the bait. After about a minute of standing there Burn lit the restaurant on fire. “NO!!!” Steelblade yelled as he reached in his pouch and grabbed a gray fruit the size of his palm. He chucked it at the ground as hard as he could so that when it smashed it created a smokescreen. He rushed into the restaurant looking for Boron not caring that the fire was burning him. He found Boron hiding under a table. “Come on, we have to go now!” Steelblade yelled as he grabbed Boron and shielded him with his wings. Steelblade was too focused on getting Boron out of the burning building and rushing to the only place they could hide from Burn that he could think of at that time to notice that Boron was crying.
Chapter 4: Chapter 3: A Connection Formed
Chapter Text
Steelblade had been flying for 2 days straight now. The first day he was flying as his Steelwing form in case Burn decided to chase him down. The second day he formed into a Skywing to get some extra speed in his flight. But between the burns and carrying his son Boron who passed out about halfway through the flight slowed him down so he was barely ¾ of the way to the rainforest and losing altitude. Fast. Shit Steelblade thought as he transformed into his Steelwing to make sure that the chance of injury from the crash would be the lowest for his son. He wrapped his wings around Boron and ducked his own head inbetween them as he braced for impact. He felt the ground as he crashed into it and rolled across it for several dragon-lengths. He felt his back hit a tree and that told him he had stopped. He slowly uncurled himself and set Boron on some nearby moss to make sure he was comfortable. He grabbed some sticks and leaves to start a fire so he could inspect his injuries in the dark night. When he turned to look at his right wing he felt immense pain as he noticed burns and a few tears that hadn’t been there before. The crash was worse than I thought. Steelblade thought as he inspected them. “Looks like I won’t be flying anywhere anytime soon.” Steelblade said quietly to himself. He looked over at his left wing and saw similar injuries.
Once he had finished his self inspection he went to make sure he didn’t miss anything on Boron when he set him down. Boron looked pretty much unscathed as Steelblade had covered him from the fire with his wing and took most of the impact from the crash to keep his son from getting hurt. Thank the moons he’s alright Steelblade thought. He decided he would sleep a bit to catch his energy. He would need it if he planned on walking the rest of the way to the rainforest.
He woke up the next day just as the son was rising. He saw Boron sitting next to a newly lit fire. Steelblade got up slowly but was stiff and couldn’t move easily.
“How are you, Boron?” He asked his son as he sat down next to him.
“Was it true?” Boron asked him which caught him off guard.
“What?” Steelblade asked, confused and noticed Boron looked sad. “Hey, what’s wrong?”
“Was what you told Burn true? Am I nothing more than an employee to you?” He replied with tears in his eyes.
“Oh no no no no. Of course not Boron” Steelblade said, realizing that Boron overheard him and Burn talking as he wiped the tears away from Boron’s eyes. “I only said those things hoping Burn would leave us alone.” He reached his damaged wings around his son to give him a hug. “I should’ve known better than to think that would work with how long Burn has been hunting me.” Steelblade said in a hopefully reassuring voice. “You are my dragonet. My son. And I will do everything in my power to protect you.”
They sat there for a few minutes hugging before Boron finally said. “I love you dad.”
“I love you too son.” Steelblade barely managed out the words as he was too focused on calming his son. The pain from his wounds didn’t help either but this was not a time to be weak. They weren’t safe from Burn who could be hunting for them now. “Listen.” He said after a few more minutes of hugging. “We still have a long way to travel and I won’t be able to fly for a while. We will need to walk the rest of the way.”
“Why can’t you fly?” Boron said with a concerned look in his eyes.
Steelblade angled his wings so his son could see some of the damage. “Between the burns from the fire and the crash landing last night, my wings are too damaged to take me anywhere.” Steelblade explained. It was unfortunate but they would have to keep going to make sure Burn wouldn’t be able to find them.
“Where are we going anyways?” Boron asked curiously. Steelblade noticed Boron wasn’t trying to look at his damaged wings as they weren’t a pleasant sight.
“The rainforest is probably the only place we can hide from the Sandwing sisters.” Steelblade said as he broke some branches off a tree and got some vines.
“Isn’t that place haunted?” Boron asked with a bit of fear in his voice.
“It wasn’t the last time I was there.” SteelBlade responded as he made braces for his wings to keep them from moving. “I head in there sometimes to get ingredients for some of the food I cook. The scariest thing there is probably the decently sized bugs that it has but nothing to be scared of.”
“What about the rainwings?” Boron asked with a different tone of curiosity that Steelblade couldn’t identify.
“I rarely came across any. There were a few times I visited their village but they weren’t long.” Steelblade said remembering his trips to the rainforest. “Every other trip I did bump into this rainwing couple who explore further out into the rainforest every time to see if they can find any new fruits.”
“Wow. I wonder how many they’ve discovered.” Boron said. Clearly wondering if it was enough to write a scroll about.
“Last time I saw them, they were getting close to 100.” Steelblade said as he finished up the braces for his wings. “Alright time to start walking.”
“What will we do when we get there?” Boron asked as he walked alongside Steelblade.
“We hope they can do something for my wings and then probably just see if we can find a temporary home and live out this 3 moon forsaken war.” Steelblade said as he walked.
“Dad?” Boron said.
“Hmm?” Steelblade responded.
“Do you think the war will end?” Boron asked. Steelblade didn’t have an answer.
“All we can do is hope it does soon.” Steelblade said. Maybe the prophecy that the piece of fox shit Morrowseer mentioned a few years back will come true Steelblade thought, remembering the time Morrowseer asked him to help the nightwings.
Chapter 5: Chapter 4: Some Unlikely Allies
Chapter Text
Steelblade and Boron had been walking for almost 6 days straight. The only time they stopped was for food, water, rest, and to make new splints for Steelblade’s wings. The pain from his injuries were starting to get to him, and they were barely in the rainforest. It got so bad the previous day he had to lean against his son as support to keep him from falling over. His son was taking his weight surprisingly well. Must be the mudwing in him Steelblade thought painfully. He could feel himself slowly passing out from the pain.
“Listen, Boron.” Steelblade said painfully, while slowing his step.
“No, don't waste your energy.” Boron replied with determination in his voice. “We will get you to the Rainwing village.”
“Not before I pass out from the pain.” Steelblade said as they stopped. “When I pass out I need you to find some Rainwings and get me to the infirmary as fast as possible ok?”
“I don’t want to be out here without you though!” Boron said, starting to cry.
“Hey, hey. It’s alright, I’ll live.” Steelblade said, trying to reassure his son. “If the Rainwings try to give you trouble, tell them to get 2 dragons named Mangrove and Orchid. They know me and can vouch for us.”
“That won’t be necessary, old friend.” A voice above Steelblade said. It turned out to be Mangrove. There were a few other dragons with him. 2 Raingwins, one of them being Orchid, a Seawing, and a Mudwing. Odd Steelblade thought when he saw the Seawing and Mudwing. When the 5 of them landed, the Mudwing walked over to him and started to inspect his wings.
“This dragon needs help now.” He said, looking back at the other 4.
“Ya couldn’t tell that from me leaning against my son for support and my injuries?” Steelblade said impatiently. The Seawing looked like she was about to say something but the Rainwing who Steelblade didn’t recognize stopped her.
“Go find something we can carry him back with to the village.” She told Mangrove and Orchid. They nodded and left out looking for something to make a makeshift stretcher. “As for you 2.” She said, turning to Steelblade and Boron “Why are you here?”
“We’re here to get away from this 3 moon forsaken war.” Steelblade replied hoping Mangrove and Orchid could find what they needed quickly. “Had a recent run-in with Burn and as you can tell.” He said nodding to his wings. “Didn’t go well.”
“What side of the war are you on?” The Seawing asked accusingly.
“I’m not on a side.” Steelblade replied impatiently. “None of the Sandwing sisters are good candidates for the throne and I won’t fight for any of them.” He said. The Seawing still looked skeptical. “All 3 sides also don’t like me as I was quite the assassin for 12 years. They basically have separate soldiers exclusively for hunting me down. Burn tracked me down to my previous location herself to get an attempt at revenge.” The Seawing still didn’t look convinced. The Rainwing looked thoughtful. And the Mudwing has a look of sympathy in his eyes.
“I have a feeling we can help each other.” The Rainwing said finally. “What’s your name? And I would also like to hear your backstory because you don’t look like you are a part of any tribe.” She said regarding Steelblade’s silver color.
“The name’s Steelblade.” He responded. “I am the last remaining Steelwing in existence.” The Rainwing again looked thoughtful. The Seawing was still looking unpleased with this predicament. And the Mudwing looked as if he was trying to remember something.
“Starflight probably remembers something on the Steelwings.” The Rainwing said.
“Hey uh, my name’s Boron and I’m a Mud/Sky hybrid.” Boron said from under Steelblade’s wing. “Are you going to tell us your names or are we going to keep wondering about this?” Kid has some fire in him.Steelblade thought.
“I’m Clay.” Said the Mudwing. “Those are Glory and Tsunami.” Hey said pointing at the Rainwing and Seawing in order.
“Clay!” Tsunami said angrily. “We still don’t know if we can trust him.” Just then Mangrove and Orchid got back with a stretcher. Clay helped Steelblade get onto it and made sure it would hold his weight.
“We’ll hit you with a sleep dart so you don’t have to go through this pain much longer.” He said. A few seconds later, Steelblade heard a zip and something hit his neck.
“He’ll be alright won’t he?” He heard Boron ask as he started to black out.
“He’ll live. But I don’t know if his wings will ever fully mend.” He heard Glory say. After that he heard nothing else as he slipped into a dreamless sleep without pain.
Steelblade woke up what he assumed was a couple hours later. He looked around and recognized the Rainwing infirmary. He turned his head to inspect his left wing and saw a pretty heavy duty splint around it. Great. he thought. My wings were pretty much gone. It'll be a miracle if I’m able to fly again.
“Your wings were worse than we thought.” He turned his head towards the voice and it turned out to be Clay who was wrapping his other wing with the same kind of splint. “What caused this?” He asked, concerned.
“Short answer. Burn. Long answer. Protecting my son from her.” Steelblade said. “I’ll do anything to protect Boron. Even at the cost of my own health.” He said as he looked around the infirmary. There was a Nightwing laying in a bed not too far away with a blindfold on and another Nightwing watching over him. There were a few Rainwings with blowguns standing nearby he assumed were for incase a patient went nuts.
“You’re awake!” He heard Boron say as he ran across the room to give SteelBlade’s neck a hug.
“Of course I am.” Steelblade said, happy that his son was safe. “I’m too stubborn to die and leave you without someone to take care of you.” He said hugging his son to the best of his abilities.
“I hate to break this up, I really do but I have some questions for you.” Steelblade turned his head towards Glory’s voice.
“Fair enough.” Steelblade responded as he prepared for an interrogation.
“What exactly happened with your encounter with Burn?” She asked. Well that wasn’t the first thing I expected to be asked. Steelblade thought as he explained what happened in Possibility up to the point of when they found him and Boron in the rainforest. “So you aren’t exactly Burn’s favorite dragon are you?” She asked when he was done.
“I’ve said this but no side of the war particularly likes me.” Steelblade responded with a tad bit of impatience. “I wouldn’t be surprised if half of the continent didn’t like me.”
“Hey don’t talk to the queen like that!” Said some random dragon from the other side of the wall. So Glory is the queen eh? Steelblade thought. Abit young if you ask me but she appears to be leading them better then the Sandwing sisters would ever do at leading their own tribe.
“Deathbringer, go find something useful to do!”
Shouted Glory while trying to keep her scales from turning red. *Deathbringer appears to annoy Glory pretty easily.* Steelblade thought.
“But I am.” He responded as he walked through the door. A nightwing?Steelblade thought. “I’m making sure that this dragon won’t do anything by being intimidating.” He said.
“You’re about as intimidating as a grain of sand.” Steelblade said from his bed. Glory looked as if she was trying to keep herself from laughing. Boron did laugh. Deathbringer looked comically offended and Clay just kept wrapping his wing.
“Maybe we will keep you around Steelblade.” Glory said after a few minutes. Deathbringer just walked out of the room muttering to himself. “So what’s your plan for this war, Steelblade?” She asked.
“I’m hoping that me and Boron outlive it but knowing the Sandwing sisters that prophecy some piece of shit Nightwing mentioned a few years ago is probably my last hope for it to end.” He replied. Clay stopped what he was doing and looked at Glory who looked at him back, a message in their eyes Steelblade couldn’t read.
“You 2 look like you know something we don’t.” Boron said. He really has some spunk if he is going to make a challenge to the queen like that. Steelblade thought. Good on him.
“Steelblade, we have more things to talk about in the next few days.” Glory said. I wonder what Steelblade thought as he rolled his eyes. “But you and your son need rest so we’ll leave you to do that.” After she finished talking, Glory and Clay left the infirmary. Boron hopped up into Steelblade’s bed with him and curled up against Steelblade’s stomach. He fell asleep shortly after. Steelblade stayed awake a few hours to think about what the future held for him and his son. I’ll think about this when I can actually contribute to it he thought with a look at his wings. A few minutes later he laid his head on his talons, Boron’s breathing comforting him. So long as he is safe I’m happy Steelblade thought as he drifted into sleep.
Chapter 6: Chapter 5: Recovery Starts
Chapter Text
The next few days weren’t all that interesting. Steelblade’s wings healed enough where he could have his own place instead of sitting in the infirmary all the time. Boron went out with Mangrove and Orchid to learn about the different fruits of the rainforest. The nightwing with the blindfold, who turned out to be Starflight, woke up. Steelblade was currently taking a nap on his bed as he really had nothing better to do. That’s when he heard a knock near his door.
“Steelblade?” Called a voice. “You there.”
“Yeah.” Steelblade replied. He was hoping to get some rest so that he could climb around this bloody village to ask Queen Glory something. “What do you need?” He asked as he got out of bed and went to his door.
“Starflight wanted to meet you.” Said the dragon at his door who turned out to be Clay.
“What for?” Steelblade asked curiously.
“He wanted to ask you some questions on what it was like thousands of years ago.” Clay responded. Ah. A dragon who is into history and possibly science. Who is most likely blind and can no longer read scrolls. Steelblade thought. Poor bastard.
“Alright I’ll come and answer as many of his questions if I have the answers to them.” Steelblade said. “If you could, can you send Queen Glory my way? I want to ask her something.” Steelblade requested as he and Clay walked to the infirmary.
“Sure I can do that.” He responded shortly before he lifted off and headed towards what Steelblade presumed was the Queen’s pavilion. A few minutes later he spotted the infirmary and walked through the door.
“Hello?” Steelblade said as he walked in looking around for the blindfolded nightwing.
“Is that you Steelblade?” He heard the nightwing ask as soon as he spotted him. The other nightwing he had seen watch over him was gone currently.
“That’s me.” Steelblade said as he sat down nearby. “Heard you wanted to ask me about my history a bit.”
“Did Clay really assume that’s what I wanted to ask you about?” Starflight said with slight annoyance. “He isn’t wrong but still.”
Steelblade chuckled. “Yeah he did. So what do you want to know?” He asked.
“I mostly want to know what it was like before the scorching.” Starflight asked.
“The land was covered in scavengers with a lot less dragons then there are nowadays. There was also only 1 tribe back then.” He said trying his best to remember the details from thousands of years ago.
“Steelwings?” Starflight asked curiously.
“Yup.” Steelblade said. “However we didn’t all look the same.” He continued. “We all had uniqueness to ourselves. If one Steelwing was known across the tribe they would be able to identify him pretty much immediately.”
“What was your identifying trait?” Starflight asked.
“I was certainly the most combat-ready of the Steelwings.” Steelblade said as he remembered some of the friendly duels against his tribemates that he almost always won. “I was easy to spot because of my 3 tails each with sandwing barbs.”
“You had 3 sandwing tails?” Starflight asked clearly, wishing he could record this.
“Still do. I was generally the first one sent to save anyone from something.” Steelblade said.
“Were you lonely when the Steelwings evolved into the other tribes?” Starflight asked cautiously.
“A couple of times there was a few thousand years gap where I would be lonely.” Steelblade responded. “There was one gap of loneliness before I adopted my son Boron. Don’t think I’ll ever be lonely so long as he’s around.” He said with a laugh. Just then Queen Glory walked in.
“Clay said you wanted to ask me something?” She asked. As she walked over to Starflight’s side.
“Yeah. Do you have any dragons that know where MushyToad Orphanage is? I need to send a message there.” Steelblade requested.
“There is probably one dragon that knows yes. He won’t like it but I’ll ask him if he will be willing to.” She said with an annoyed tone.
“I will not be leaving your side whatsoever.” Said a voice from the door. Steelblade turned towards it and it was Deathbringer.
“You don’t need to stay by my side all the time.” Glory responded with even more annoyance in her voice. “Especially since you put guards on me.” Steelblade had a feeling this was going to be an amusing conversation. “Just do this for me if not for Steelblade.” She said. “Or else I’ll go myself.”
“You’re the queen!” Deathbringer said with a comic amount of panic in his voice. “Of 2 tribes no less. You shouldn’t leave them. Besides, you don’t even know where it is.” He said with a smug look on his face.
“I can tell her.” Steelblade called from his place. Deahtbringer swung his head to look at him with what Steelblade could see was anguish.
“See? I have my ways to get around you.” Glory said smugly at Deathbringer. “So you better take this message or else I’ll do it myself.”
“Fine.” Deathbringer said before walking out the door.
“I have a feeling you will be a good dragon to know Steelblade.” Glory said once Deathbringer was out of earshot.
“Wonder if he has any counters for Tsunami.” Starflight said with a laugh. Glory laughed and nodded.
“I’ll make sure some paper and something to write with gets sent to your place.” She said before she walked out.
“Well.” Steelblade said standing up. “It’s getting around the time I head back home and see what Boron was up to today. See you later Starflight.” He called as he walked out.
“I’ll talk to you later.” Starflight responded. Steelblade started the trek to his current home and saw his son land in front of the door.
“How was your day Boron?” Steelblade asked as he walked up to the door. Boron turned and gave Steelblade a hug.
“It was so much fun!” He replied excitedly. “Mangrove showed me so many different kinds of fruit. If only you could come with us.” Boron said with a sad look at Steelblade’s wings.
“Hey it’s alright. We have nothing better to do here so maybe you could tell me about them sometime.” Steelblade said, trying to cheer his son up. “My wings are also healing better than I expected. Looks like I won’t be flightless forever. Can’t keep me grounded.” He said with a laugh.
“You Steelblade?” Said a voice behind him. Steelblade turned around to see a rainwing holding some kind of box.
“That would be me, yes.” He responded.
“The queen sent this for you.” The Rainwing responded as he handed Steelblade the box. It was the paper and writing equipment he asked for.
“Tell her I said thanks.” Steelblade called after the rainwing as he was flying away. The rainwing flicked his tail in acknowledgement. He and Boron walked inside and Steelblade set the box down on his desk.
“What’s that for?” Boron asked curiously.
“I’m going to write a letter to Toadstool to let her know we’re alright.” Steelblade responded as he unpacked the box.
“I wouldn’t exactly say you’re alright dad.” Boron joked. Steelblade let out a laugh.
“Maybe not but again, my wings are healing better than expected.” He said when he unpacked it. He looked outside and saw it was getting dark. “Should probably write this tomorrow after I get some sleep.” He said. He and Boron walked into the bedroom and got in bed. “You do know you can have your own room, right son?” He asked.
“I almost lost you once. I never want to feel that again.” Boron responded as he curled up under Steelblade’s wing.
“Fair enough.” Steelblade said as he laid his head on his talons. It also comforted him because he knew that his son was safe and nearby.
Chapter 7: Chapter 6: A Friendship formed
Chapter Text
Steelblade was going to the infirmary for 2 things. One was to visit Starflight and talk to him some more because he actually seemed interested in Steelblade’s stories. The other was to give Deathbringer his letter to Toadstool, there was a note from Deathbringer saying he would be at the infirmary around noon waiting for him. Impatient ain’t he Steelblade joked to himself.
“Finally you’re here.” He heard Deathbringer’s annoyed voice as he walked into the infirmary. Starflight and another nightwing, the one who kept watching over him when he was out cold, looked towards him.
“Now now Deathbringer.” Steelblade said smugly. “Don’t make me tell Glory you don’t want to do it so she can do it herself.” He mocked as he handed over the letter to Deathbringer. Starflight gave a little chuckle. Deathbringer looked comically pissed at him. And the other nightwing who Steelblade didn’t recognize looked at him curiously. Deathbringer took the note and left muttering to himself once again.
“3 moons I have to see what you would say to Tsunami.” Starflight said. The other nightwing laughed at that one.
“I can tell you it would probably be interesting.” Steelblade joked back. “What story do you want to hear about today?” He asked Starflight as he sat down.
“What were the different tribes like all those years ago?” Starflight responded curiously.
“Well to start, the rainwings were the ones you had to be scared of.” Steelblade started. “Become a slight inconvenience to one and you get a face full of venom.” The other nightwing shuddered.
“Oh calm down Fatespeaker.” Starflight said. “For my understanding that’s why no one went into the rainforest back then anyways. And it certainly isn’t true now. Unless you’re Glory.”
Fatespeaker giggled at the Glory comment. “I know but it’s still scary how much a tribe can change in years.”
“Skywings were nice back then too.” Steelblade said. The 2 nightwings looked at him, awestruck or as awestruck as Starflight can look. “Yeah, not these grumpy ones you see now. Wonder what happened there.” He said, actually not knowing the answer.
“Wouldn’t you know?” Fatespeaker asked.
“He doesn’t know everything.” Starflight responded for Steelblade. And Steelblade could’ve sworn he heard Starflight say “unfortunately” under his breath.
“Mudwings were basically the same. Sandwings were far more “outlaw” than now. Icewings still had that “superiority act” that they do now. Nightwings were also on the nicer side.” He said. Starflight looked a bit more interested. “They were still smug about their powers though.” Steelblade said remembering a few of the snide comments a few nightwings gave him about their powers. “Seawings haven’t changed much.” Just after he finished, Queen Glory walked in.
“I hate to interrupt your learning experience Starflight but I need to talk to Steelblade.” She said.
“Ok.” Starflight said with a hint of disappointment. Fatespeaker leaned in to comfort him. Steelblade got up and followed Glory outside and walked with her towards her pavilion. Once they walked inside she sat next to a table and Steelblade sat at the other side.
“What do you know about the sandwing sisters that we possibly don’t?” Glory asked as she finished settling.
“I presume you already know Burn is bloody thirsty based on that wall she put up.” Steelblade said, slightly shuddering at the memory of seeing it one time. “But she also isn’t too smart either. She solves most of her problems with brute strength and hardly thinks about it. I think hunting me down is the most thought she’s put into anything.”
“Yeah I could figure that.” Glory responded. “She is the most blood thirsty sister. I would assume she solves most things with brute strength.” Steelblade let out a snort of laughter. “What?” She asked, annoyed.
“She isn’t the most blood thirsty.” Steelblade said. When Glory looked interested he continued. “You ever seen a pissed off Blister? She is blood thirsty when you piss her off enough.” He said remembering some of the traps she set for him.
“How blood thirsty?” Glory asked clearly interested in this information.
“She has tried hunting me down herself instead of laying traps, I pissed her off so badly.” Steelblade said. Glory actually looked stunned by this. “Yeah don’t piss her off enough to the point she does that.” Just after he finished, Tsunami burst through the door.
“SUNNY’s BACK!!” She yelled and turned around and flew to the infirmary. Who in the 3 moons is Sunny? Steelblade thought. Glory got up and walked towards the door.
“Time for you to meet those prophecy dragonets from that fake prophecy Morrowseer told you about.” Glory spat the word Morrowseer. Steelblade followed her back to the infirmary wondering why Glory seemed so pissed at Morrowseer.
Chapter 8: Chapter 7: A Friend Visits
Chapter Text
As Glory and Steelblade walked into the infirmary, Steelblade saw Fatespeaker talking to his son Boron and an unusual sandwing standing next to Starflight’s bed while Clay and Tsunami were asking her where she was for the past few days (apparently she disappeared right before Steelblade and Boron showed up). Glory walked up to her and started scolding her about having to deal with the stress about having to search for their little sister. I’m going to take a guess and say that’s Sunny then. Steelblade thought. After Glory was done scolding the sandwing, she hugged her.
“Who’s that?” The Sandwing asked, noticing Steelblade by the door.
“The name’s Steelblade.” Steelblade responded with a friendly tone. “Last remaining Steelwing alive.”
“Well Steelblade.” Glory said, turning to him. “You’re face to face with the prophecy dragonets.”
Steelblade felt hope flicker inside him. “Maybe there is a chance this war will end soon then.” He replied hopefully.
“And what do you mean by that?” Tsunami asked curiously and for once, without hostility.
“You 5 most certainly have the courage and the friendship to end a war on his scale.” Steelblade replied. “How it’s going to end is up to you according to that damn prophecy but honestly I never really believed it in the first place.”
“Oh yeah about that.” Starflight said from his bed. “It’s fake. Morrowseer made it up.” Steelblade can’t say he was surprised, but he still wasn’t happy.
“Another reason to add to my list of “reason i want to kill Morrowseer.” Steelblade replied while slapping his palm against his forehead. “Speaking of that rotten nightwing.” He continued. “Any idea on his location so I can go kill him?”
“Already dead.” Glory snarled. “Wish I could’ve killed him myself.”
“Well I guess that’s one evil douche down.” Steelblade said. “Now we just need to get rid of some more. Because I guarantee you none of the sisters are backing down.”
“Let us take care of that.” Sunny said. Steelblade nodded and walked back to his place to start making up a new building plan for when he rebuilt his restaurant in Possibility.
A few hours later Boron walked in. “Hey dad.” He said.
“Yes son?” Steelblade replied from his desk.
“Do you think the Prophecy Dragons will stop the war?” Boron said as he sat down next to Steelblade.
“I sure hope so.” Steelblade said. “If they can't, no one will. Only way this war will effectively end is by at least Burn dying.” He continued. “She would keep the war going just for fun.” He looked out his window and saw it was getting dark. “Alright, looks like it’s time for bed. The next few days we will prepare to help them in any way we can.” Steelblade said as he and Boron walked into their bedroom and climbed in bed for the night.
The next few days Steelblade asked the Prophecy Dragons if they needed his help anyway. They said that they would let him know so he continued his building plans for his restaurant. That’s when he heard a knock by the door.
“Come in.” Steelblade said as he got up from his desk to meet who it was at the door. He was surprised to see Toadstool there.
“You’re not dead!” She said as she ran up to him and gave him a hug. “I thought Burn had gotten you and Boron.” She said. “Then some cranky nightwing showed up and said he had a letter from you for me.” She continued.
“Ha. I’m too protective of Boron to let Burn get remotely close to him.” Steelblade responded, happy to see Toadstool was alive as well. He directed her towards the kitchen and prepared an old dish from his restaurant with what fruit he had. Shortly after he finished making it Boron walked through.
“Toadstool!” He said as he ran up to her and gave her a hug. “It’s been so long since I last saw you.” He said. “I’m so happy you’re alive.”
“Boron you’re ok!” She said, hugging him back. Steelblade laughed as he prepared another portion of the dish for Boron so they could all talk about what’s been going on.
“All thanks to dad for being a great father.” He said, smiling towards Steelblade.
“Anything for you son.” Steelblade said as he sat down.
“How’s your wings Steelblade?” Toadstool said with a concerned look at them.
“Doing better.” He replied with a look at them. “They’ve healed enough that I can do short glides but no long distance flying yet. Hopefully this war ends soon so I can rebuild the restaurant in Possibility. Got some plans on my desk.” He continued. “Definitely not making it out of wood again. I can confirm that.” He said as a knock was at the door. “Hold on.” He said as he went to answer it. It was Deathbringer.
“The queen wants to see you.” He told Steelblade. Steelblade wondered what Glory wanted to see him about.
“Alright tell her I’ll be there soon.” Steelblade replied. He was about to turn around when Deathbringer stopped him.
“All 3 of you.” He said. Steelblade was really curious now.
“Alright. I’ll get Boron and Toadstool.” Steelblade said. “Tell Glory we’ll be there in a few minutes. Deathbringer nodded and flew off towards the Queen’s pavilion. Steelblade walked back into his house where he left Boron and Toadstool. “The queen wants to see us.” He said as he walked in.
“All of us?” Boron asked curiously.
“Yup.” Steelblade responded. The 3 of them cleaned up and started walking towards the queen’s pavilion with a few short glides here and there. When they got there Steelblade knocked on the door.
“Come in.” He heard Glory say. Steelblade nodded to Boron and Toadstool to follow him and walked in. They walked in and took a seat in front of the queen. “We’ll be leaving for the Sandwing stronghold the day after tomorrow.” She said. “Sunny says she has a way to stop the war.”
Steelblade looked at her in confusion and saw his same confusion in Toadstool’s eyes.
“How are we going to get there in 2 days?” Toadstool asked. “It’s across the continent and Steelblade can’t fly well.”
“We have a way.” Glory responded. “Steelblade will most likely recognize it when he sees it.” She said with a look towards him. “But in the meantime, prepare for it. Who knows how this will end.” She said with a grim look. They all nodded and walked out. They were silent as they walked back to Steelblade’s house.
“What do you think is their plan?” Toadstool asked him as they walked through the door.
“Good question but it’s getting late and I don’t know about you but I’m tired.” He said. Boron yawned in agreement. Steelblade directed Toadstool into a currently unused room and helped her set up her sleeping quarters. He said goodnight and walked to his own room and curled up around Boron who was already asleep. Must of had a busy day today if he’s already alseep. Steelblade thought.
Chapter 9: Chapter 8: The Beginning of the End
Chapter Text
Steelblade, his son Boron, and his friend Toadstool had packed most of their stuff up by the time Glory had called for everyone who was going to the sandwing stronghold. They weren’t the first to show up, but they definitely weren’t the last. There were a couple Rainwings disguised as other tribes, some nightwings, and the prophecy dragons ready. When everyone showed up Queen Glory led them to what appeared to be a random spot in the rainforest. That was when Steelblade recognized a feeling he hadn’t felt in 2 thousand years.
“What is this………… wrongness feeling?” Toadstool asked as they kept walking.
“Left over animus magic.” Steelblade responded. “And animus dragon must have enchanted something nearby.”
“I figured Steelblade would recognize the feeling.” Glory said from on top of a boulder with an unrealistically large hole in it. “This tunnel was created by Sunny’s father, Stonemover, and it allows us to walk to the sand kingdom and it exits near the stronghold.” After she finished talking she led her dragons through the tunnel. Steelblade, Boron, and Toadstool were among the last dragons to go through. Steelblade was surprised that he actually just walked to the sand kingdom in minutes. His awe was cut short as he smelled the stronghold nearby.
“What is that horrible smell?” He heard Boron ask from behind him.
“Burn’s stronghold.” Steelblade replied as he pointed towards the stronghold. “Burn decapitated dragons and stuck their heads on pikes to keep dragons away.” Boron looked horrified to hear this. “Yeah she is ruthless. Now come on, let's keep up.” He, Boron and Toadstool flew over the tower and landed next to the prophecy dragons.
“Maybe you brats won’t be useless after all.” Steelblade heard a voice from the entrance. “Afterall it appears you’ve picked me to be queen and brought the dragon that I need to get revenge on.” The dragon walked into the light and Steelblade recognized Burn. “However I see 2 problems flying right this way.” She said pointing at the sky. Blister and Blaze. Steelblade thought. 2 dragons that hate me more than each other. Then you have Blaze who probably won’t even recognize me. The 2 landed in the courtyard nearby and the queens of the other tribes landed on the wall where there was space to watch. Steelblade positioned himself where he could defend Boron from anyone who would hurt him.
“What’s going on?” Blaze asked. “I thought my sisters would be dead by the time I got here.” She looked over at the prophecy dragons with a hurt look.
“They chose me to be queen.” Blister countered while raising her tail.
“We haven’t chosen anyone.” Sunny said. “We are going to find a way to end this war with no bloodshed.” Steelblade was no longer paying attention as the argument went on.
“Burn.” Blister said after a while. “Didn’t you get my present?” She asked. “Figured I would try to bring the family back together.” Steelblade was curious as these 2 have been biting at each other’s throats for the past 20 years.
“So that was from you.” Burn said. “Smolder! Get the box.” She told a dragon who looked identical to Blister other than he was male. When he returned the box was spitting and hissing. What in the moons did Blister get Burn.
“I know you like exotic creatures so I got you something.” Blister said smugly. Burn cracked open the box and shot her arm in there and pulled out a dragonbite viper which was VERY angry.
“You think I can’t tell the hiss of a Dragonbite viper?” Burn said, looking at Blister. “It’s going to be ironic when it kills you instead.”
That’s when Steelblade heard more hissing from the box. Then a second snake popped its head out and looked towards Burn.
“Didn’t I mention I got you 2?” Blister said as the viper bite Burn and she dropped the second one.
“FLY!!!” Glory yelled at everyone. Everyone was trying to get away from the snakes.
“Come on dad, we have to get you away from those snakes.” Boron said, tugging on Steelblades arm.
“Go with Toadstool.” He told Boron. “I’ll be fine. I’ve dealth with dragonbites before. They’re not that hard.” He said trying to reassure his son.
“STARFLIGHT!!” He heard 2 voices behind him. He saw Sunny and Fatespeaker trying to help get airborne but he was too heavy for them and a viper was slithering towards them. Steelblade rushed towards the viper, attempting to kill it before it reached them. But he was too slow as the viper was closing in. Right before it got one of the 3 dragons Clay tackled them and took the bite instead. Steelblade finally made it to the viper and slammed his tail into it, killing it. When he turned around he saw everyone panicking about Clay’s wound and he rushed over to see if he could help.
“Move over.” He heard a voice he didn’t recognize as a bright orange skywing who appeared to be smokinglanded next to Clay. “You are not dying for me Clay.” She said as she slammed her talons into the bite wound. Clay started thrashing about unable to think better from the pain.
“What are you doing?” Steelblade asked the mysterious skywing.
“Burning out the poison.” She replied not moving her head. “Would help if he could stop moving.” That's when dragons started to hold Clay down to keep him from moving, most of them far enough from the skywing to be burned. Steelblade got on his back to hold Clay’s injured leg as still as possible to help this skywing. She shot him a concerned look but kept burning out the poison. When she was done there was a massive burn on Clay’s leg that would scar and leave him a limp for the rest of his life, but he would live.
“Thank you Peril.” Sunny said with excitement. Peril looked a bit surprised to get praise out of someone.
“Was hoping to solve 2 problems with one snake there.” Steelblade turned and saw Blister watching them. “But before I kill Blaze and get the throne of the sandwings.” She turned towards him. “I have someone that I very much need to die before I become queen.”
Steelblade readied himself for a fight. “And I need you dead so my friends and family are not in danger of you.” He replied.
Chapter 10: Chapter 9: First of Many Scars
Chapter Text
Steelblade and Blister had been rolling about trying to get an effective hit on each other for the past few minutes. Steelblade couldn’t connect a hit because he was bigger and slower than Blister but the reason she couldn’t get an effective hit is because his scales are incredibly durable and her tail and talons kept bouncing off. When they finally broke apart, both went sliding across the sand in opposite directions.
“Face it Blister.” Steelblade called across the courtyard at her. “You can’t kill me. Just give up and take the loss.” He said while approaching her.
“You think you’ve won.” She snarled back. “There is still a way I can break your spirit to fight.” She said while turning to look towards Steelblade’s son Boron, who returned the look horrified.
“NO!!!!!!!” Steelblade yelled as he turned into a skywing in a fraction of a heartbeat. He was flying across the courtyard as fast as he could while Blister ran towards Boron, tail raised and ready to strike. Steelblade managed to get to his son before Blister, tackling him to get him out of the way of Blister’s tail. But her tail still managed to score a hit. Steelblade felt Blister’s tail scratch him the entire length along his right side in between his front and back legs. When he and Boron stopped sliding across the dirt he laid on his left side, focused on his breathing.
“DAD!” Boron yelled in distress. “No no no you can’t die. Not here. Not now.” He said crying and he inspected the scratch.
“STEELBLADE!” Toadstool yelled as she ran over to them. “There must be a cure for a sandwing tail injury.” She said, turning to the prophecy dragons.
“There is!” Sunny said. “The cactus that grows in the desert. Its juice is the cure for sandwing venom.”
“I’ll get some.” Toadstool said. She turned to Steelblade to look him in the eyes. “Don’t you die on us while I’m getting this.” She said before she flew off.
“Hmph. Well that wasn’t what I was going for but it works.” Blister said.
“You’re horrible!” Boron told her still crying.
“He brought this on himself.” She snarled at Boron. “But my goal is done. He isn’t a threat anymore. That wound is too big for it to be cured before he’s dead.” She said. Boron turned around and hugged Steelblade.
“You can’t die.” He whispered, still crying.
“I won’t.” Steelblade responded painfully. “I couldn’t imagine leaving you without someone to take care of you.” He said, trying to reach his wing around his son.
“As for you.” Steelblade heard Blister say as she turned towards Blaze. “It’s high time I got my throne.” Blaze and the Icewing queen had a short exchange before the icewing flew off to join her tribe with Blaze looking horrified at Blister. Steelblade just laid there with his wing around his son while Boron just hugged him crying. Everyone else was quiet with suspense. A few minutes later Toadstool returned with a piece of the cactus that grew around the desert.
“Get down here and help Steelblade.” Steelblade heard Glory call to a few of the rainwings. He looked up and saw a few of them flying towards him. When the rainwings and Toadstool were standing around him, Toadstool handed them the cactus and they started to squeeze the cactus juice into Steelblade’s scratch. It stung a bit but Steelblade tried his best to remain still to help out the rainwings.
“Will he live?” Boron asked hopefully, still having tears in his eyes.
“He should now that he has the cure running through him.” Said one of the rainwings. Steelblade’s scratch was feeling better, but it would take a while before it healed. Well that’s going to scar. He joked to himself. Not like I have plenty others anyways
“I’ll live.” He said. “I’m too stubborn to die now. Especially since I have finally found good friends and a great family.” He said looking at his son, his best friend Toadstool, and his new friends the prophecy dragons. And I guess I’ll throw in Deathbringer as well. Steelblade thought. Haven’t had that much fun messing with another dragon in years.
That’s when Steelblade heard everything stop, even Blister stopped bullying Blaze to see what caused everything to go silent. He looked over at the obelisk that marked Oasis’s death spot and saw Sunny holding the Eye of Onyx. He got up and started walking over to the obelisk. Toadstool and Boron got up against his sides to help stabilize him. He looked at them in gratitude.
“You’re lucky the Eye of Onyx sees you as a worthy option for queen.” He said when he got there. Sunny turned to look at him in confusion. “I know the enchantment on that thing and it isn’t pretty when someone isn’t worthy of the throne.” He said shivering at the few times he’s seen it in action. Sunny looked thoughtful for a second then passed the Eye to another sandwing Steelblade didn’t recognize although he swore he'd seen them before.
“Thorn is now your queen.” Sunny said, holding up Thorn’s arm. That's why I recognized her. Steelblade thought. I’ve seen her a few times in the scorpion den.
“NO!” Blister yelled. “That belongs to me.” She ran towards Thorn and grabbed the Eye out of her hands.
“Have fun disintegrating, Blister.” Steelblade called as the Eye started to crack with purple lightning. He saw Blister attempt to drop it but the Eye forced her to keep holding it. Then she disintegrated into a pile of ashes with the Eye laying on top of it.
“I see why Oasis never wore this thing.” Thorn said as she picked it back up. She put it around her neck and it just sat there. Showing that Thorn was worthy of being Queen of the sandwings. The sandwings flew down to bow to their new queen. Almost all of them seemed relieved that it wasn’t any of the 3 sisters they were fighting for the past 20 years. Even the queens of the other tribes looked relieved. Steelblade himself was probably the most relieved though as the biggest threats to his son Boron were dead and the sandwings had a good queen. He could finally live a peaceful life and give Boron the life that he deserves.
“You better come back with us.” Steelblade heard Queen Glory say from behind him. “That wound still needs time to fully heal and I’m quite sure Starflight still has questions for you.” She joked with a look at the blind nightwing. Starflight snorted in response and Steelblade laughed.
“Alright.” He said. “Let’s get back to the rainforest. Like that place better than here anyways.” Boron and Toadstool both agreed with him and they all started the trek back to the rainforest. Everyone taking turns at supporting Steelblade as they walked on.
Chapter 11: Epilogue
Chapter Text
Steelblade was flying to Jade mountain. The prophecy dragons called him there to ask him something.
“What is it you need?” He asked as he landed next to them.
“I was wondering if you could teach history at the school we’re opening here.” Starflight said. Steelblade had heard them talking about opening up a school here. He kind of expected this question and prepared what to say.
“I’m sorry.” Steelblade said. “I can’t do that for you.”
“Why?” Sunny asked curiously.
“2 reasons actually.” Steelblade answered. “One of them is that I have a business to run.” He said thinking about his newly built restaurant with other dragons asking about hiring. “The other is that I don’t really want to relive some of the events that happened throughout history. Especially what happened 2 thousand years ago relating to me.” He continued. “You’re basically asking me to relive some unpleasant events by teaching them to dragonets with full detail.” Steelblade ended remembering some unpleasant events that happened within the past 5 thousand years.
“That…. Actually makes sense.” Clay said.
“Agreed. But I do have one more question for you Steelblade regarding what you said.” Starflight said.
“What is it?” Steelblade asked curiously.
“What happened 2 thousand years ago that you’re not particularly fond of?” He asked. Steelblade had no clue how to answer this without giving away too much.
“Let’s say this.” Steelblade started. “I married a psychopath and it almost caused the end of the world. I would prefer not to go into detail.” Steelblade said regretting his choices back then. “But I also have a question for you all before I head back to Possibility. Could Boron get a spot in your school when it opens?”
“Of course.” Sunny said. Your son will be welcomed and we will make sure he gets in a good group of dragons.”
“Thanks. I want him to find friends who are interested in the same things as he is. And with where we live currently, it's not exactly easy.” Steelblade said. He said goodbye to the prophecy dragons and started the flight home to Possibility.
When he got to Possibility it was dark. When he walked through the archway that was the entrance to his restaurant, his son Boron ran up to him and gave him a hug.
“What did the prophecy dragons want dad?” Boron asked as they walked into their living quarters.
“They asked me if I would be willing to teach at the school they're going to open.” Steelblade responded.
“What did you say?” Boron asked curiously.
“Told them I don’t want to relive some of those events from years ago and that I have a business to run.” Steelblade said as they prepared for bed.
“I wish I could go there.” Boron said sadly.
“Your wish is going to come true when they open up the school.” Steelblade told his son. “I asked them if you could have a spot there and they said yes.”
“REALLY?” Boron said with an excited turn.
“Yup.” Steelblade responded. “I’m always thinking of you, my son.” Boron ran up to him and gave him a hug.
“Thanks dad.” Boron said after a few minutes.
“You’re welcome son.” Steelblade said. “Now let’s get to bed, I'm tired.” Boron climbed in bed and curled up. Steelblade followed and set his wing over his son. He’d asked his son if he wanted his own room but Boron said no because he almost witnessed his dad’s death and wanted to stay with him if he could. Steelblade secretly was relieved when Boron said this because Boron is the first dragon Steelblade would call his family.
