Louie scrolled through their contacts. As much as they hated to admit it, Aaron had been right about one thing: Louie had no one to turn to.
His family loved and cared for him, but they would no doubt be furious if they found out he had been sneaking out to see his secret (now ex) boyfriend even after all of his past relationships had ended in flames, this one now included. Their friends would probably tell Louie’s family about what he had been doing, plus it wasn’t like he would be their top priority anyway. God knows where Goldie was, or if she would even be able to reach him. Louie wasn’t that close with Aaron’s friends, and they would probably side with Aaron anyway.
Louie didn’t have any of his own friends.
“Maybe people would like you more if you fixed what people don’t like about you. Maybe then you wouldn’t end up dying alone.”
Louie groaned in frustration when tears started to blur his vision and rubbed at their eyes.
As his vision started to clear, his eyes were drawn to Ty’s name in their list of contacts.
His shaky finger hovered over the name hesitantly.
He grumbled, cheeks pinking slightly despite himself. I can’t believe I’m doing this.
Reluctantly, they clicked Ty’s contact and then pressed the call button, sniffling. He held the phone to his ear, attempting to steady his breathing as they waited.
“Who the fuck is this?” Ty’s voice was gravelly and deeper than usual. It was obvious that he had just woken up and wasn’t yet fully awake, though Ty Cloudkicker’s mind was never quite ‘fully awake’ as far as Louie was concerned. All the same, Louie’s stupid heart still pounded in his chest despite himself when he heard the bear’s voice from the other end of the line.
“It’s me, Louie. Listen, I kinda need a favour—“
“If it requires me getting out of bed at 12.55 am and or possibly dying, you can forget it. Just wake up your brothers or something.”
Louie’s heart sank, though the response was expected. “I— can’t… do that.”
“Why not?” There was a twinge of worry in Ty’s voice, possibly at the fact that Louie had basically said that they had come to Ty for help instead of his brothers. “What happened?”
“That’s not important. I just—“ Louie paused, then sighed. “Do you think you can walk me home?”
Louie heard a sound that they assumed was Ty sitting up in his bed from the other end of the line. “Are you not in your house?”
“No, I wouldn’t have asked you to walk me home if I was, would I?” Louie snapped, though they knew they had no right to be angry, at least not at Ty.
“Louie, it’s almost 1 in the morning and you’re not at home? Where are you? What did you do?”
“I told you, what happened isn’t relevant, okay? I just need a walk home.”
“And I would be fine with that if it wasn’t 1 in the fucking morning!” Ty whisper-yelled from his end of the line. He sighed. “I’m sorry, Lou, but it’s a hard pass. I have a huge game tomorrow and I need all the rest I can get. You can call someone else—“
“I don’t have anyone else to call!” Louie yelled, his voice quavering as they tried and failed to hold back tears. There was silence on the opposite end of the line as Louie calmed himself down enough to speak clearly.
“I’m sorry, okay? I know it’s a big favour to ask, but my family would flip if they found out about this.” There was a pause. “I don’t want to walk home alone. I’m scared. You’re the only one I can call, Ty.”
Ty said nothing.
“Please?”
Still nothing.
“Okay.” Louie’s voice was barely above a whisper. “It’s fine, I can walk myself home—“
“Where are you?”
Louie paused, his finger hovering over the ‘end call’ button. “What?”
“I asked you earlier, but you didn’t answer. Where are you? Are you in town?”
“Uh, yeah, I’m in Duckburg—“
“Okay, then I’ll be there in a few.” Louie heard Ty getting out of bed. “Where are you?”
Louie told him their location.
“Then I’m headed there. Stay put, okay? I’m coming.”
Louie nodded, before remembering that Ty couldn’t see them. “Uh-huh. Okay.”
There was a pause. Then the call ended.
