The sun hung high in the sky, seemingly unwavering in its constant heat. From afar, small heat waves could be seen on cars passing by, the hot smoke an even more unbearable stench that caused the two boys to grimace, Damien grit his teeth, tightening his grip on Pips hand who’s face reddened, a bit surprised by the action. “I think this fan might be making me hotter?” Pip questioned, passing the fanback to Damien who groaned, rubbing his face with his hand, sweat dripping down to his shirt. “Maybe, but I don't really give a shit, not like we have anything else. Anyways, where are we going?” Pip smiled, cheeks a rosy red as he led them further down the town, reaching a small forest, the smell of oak starting to become apparent. “It’s really cool! I had found it after my mum had kicked me out of the house for the night! There’s a small lake there, don’t worry, it really isn’t all that far.” Damien grunted at the mention of such a cruel act, looking back up at Pip who gave his signature upbeat smile, happiness just as unwavering as the heat. Sometimes, it was almost envious how Pip managed to see the bright side in everything, he just wasn’t affected by much. He doesn’t ever think he could handle so much brutality by those around him, he’d probably explode from pure anger, he really needed to stop leaving Pip all by himself, he’s naive enough to get manipulated by stupid and brutal people, everyone in the town seemed to be cruel to the poor boy. Damien glanced at Pip who grazed his thumb over Damien’s sweat soaked hand, a cheeky smile on his face as he pulled them further along, a small hum of birds could be heard above, the sound of water was soft, almost dull, but not impossible to hear. “See, we’re almost here!” Damien nodded, pocketing the small fan and following along.

The water was beautiful, colors of blue’s and greens covering the surface as Damien jumped in, skin practically thanking him as the cool water enraptured him. Pip soon joined him with much more cautious steps in, swimming towards Damien as he dunked his head low into the water, holding his breath tightly as Damien closed his eyes, starting the drift off before a light tap on his arm made him grunt as he looked at his boyfriend who’s hair was soaked, blue eyes glistening so magestically that Damien swore he got lost in them. “Well, what do you think! Isn’t it rather lovely?” Pip chirped, laying on his back as well, closing his eyes as he smiled brightly, water glistening from his pale skin. “Yeah, it’s okay I guess.” Pip laughed softly, looking at Damien who avoided eye contact, opting to hold Pip’s hand, water seeping into their hands which held loosely. “I think I love you.” Damien spluttered, suddenly sinking down into the water as his body jolsted, frantically trying to compose himself as he swam to the surface. Pip’s panicked voice could be heard, even from below the water his voice still managed to come in a blurry hush, that is, until Damien hit the surface, the sound of Pip’s frantic clammering now heard clearly. “Oh my god, are you okay? Did I say it too early? I’m sorry-!” Damien waved a hand at Pip, face a light pink as he grabbed onto Pip roughly, crashing his lips with Pip who’s muffled panic soon became a quiet whimper, with the sun still glistening bright in the sky, the sound of low huffs and quiet whispers of hope layed bare for only them to see.

“That was refreshing wasn’t it? I think I might be sunburned though!” Damien pressed his hand onto Pip’s skin, causing a yelp from the other along with a small sniffle. “Yeah, you’re definitely sunburned.” Pip let out a whine in response, still recovering from the sting of Damien’s hand on his arm. “We’ll have to pass by the store, if that’s alright with you.” Damien nodded, a small breeze starting to pick up as they finally neared the end of the forest's path, the sound of rustling leaves felt almost as pleasant as the smile on Pip’s face. “If you want, we can go to my house after!” Pip offered. A hopeful look in his eyes as he took both of Damien’s hands into his, caressing them gently as he waited for a response. “Let go for a second..” Pip complied, stepping back and about to question Damien on the matter before seeing Damien’s horns come in, body on actual fire as his eyes turned red, moments later returning back to his human form, fire gone in an instant. “Sorry about that.” Pip chuckled lightly, continuing to walk on, knowing well why the demon had lit on fire, I guess I shouldn't have overwhelmed him so much, he’s become all flustered. Pip giggled to himself, looking back at Damien who glared in return. “I think it’s cute when you get all flustered, don’t be angered Damien.” Pip remarked, meeting Damien’s pace as he pushed sweat-sticked hair out of the raven’s face, slowly placing his hand on one of Damien’s cheeks, a tender look in his eye. “Fine, let's.. Let’s just get going.” Damien tried, swapping Pip’s hand away as he opted to grab onto it tightly, walking forward at a hastily high speed.

“Do you want to stay over? Damien?” Pip asked as he walked through the door, looking over his shoulder as Damien looked around, a small frown on his face. “Ah! I'm sorry! I should’ve cleaned! If you would give me a moment to put these down!” Pip was quick to put the bag of things down, starting to lift a few clothes that had gone a stray. “No, no. It’s not that. I don’t care about that type of stuff.” Damien remarked, grabbing Pip by the waist as he pulled Pip onto the old, worn out bed. A small gasp was softly emitted from under Damien. “I hate you, I hate your face,I hate your stupid hair and how it looks when you swim, I hate your smile and that look on your face when something bad has happened, I hate how much I..” Pip stayed silent, staring up at Damien with all the care in the world, having heard all these insults before, a small part of him hurting from the words. “Damn it, stop looking at me like that!” Pip turned his head towards his lamp, the lamp that Damien had gotten him. “Look, I know I’m not good with emotions, but. I do. I- I do know that some part of me loves you?” Damien laid himself onto Pip, arms holding Pip in place by the waist, he could hear Pip’s heart racing in his chest. “You aren’t teasing me..? Are you?” Pip was on the verge of tears, a hand on his mouth as he held back a choked sob. “I mean it. I would never do that to you..” Damien raised himself up, wiping a tear that had managed to escape from Pip’s eye, pulling down the hand that was still covering his lips. “I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” Pip gasped at the sudden admittance, hearing the sentence play like a mantra in his mind as he felt Damien’s lips connect with his own, tears spilling down his cheek, breaking the kiss only to say. “That would be lovely.” if they were together forever, Pip thought he wouldn’t have minded it one bit. If there was one thing he had, it was Damien. In the warm, humid night, the sound of crickets and whispered promises resounded through the night.
