Work Header

A Bird's Song Carried by an Ocean Breeze.

Summary:

Xiao could hardly hear over the sounds of his ragged breath. The monster's onslaught seemed to never end. Despite the fact his polearm felt so heavy in his hands, he raised it and slashed down a hilichurl that dared to come his way. It was Xiao's duty as the last of the Yaksha to exercise the monsters effected by his karmic debt, after all. Taking in a breath, Xiao's body filled with the power of Anemo, using the little energy he had he dash forward with his polearm, slicing down a mitachurl.

Xiao crumpled down, too exhausted to continue fighting. As his vision started to fade, he saw waves of Hydro crash down upon the remaining enemies, then Xiao's vision finally faded to black.

TLDR: Xiao almost dies :) but Childe saves him and helps him recover.

Notes:

This a idea I've had in my mind for a while, so enjoy! Sorry if this feels weird or if Xiao and Childe are out of character, I'm rushing this before it gets deleted from my drafts.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

...

Childe hosted the Adeptus up into his arms, casting a glance at the empty battlefield. While he had killed the enemies here, Childe didn't know how many were left in the ruins. And as much as the Harbinger wanted to fight more, the Yaksha he had picked up needed his wounds treated (Childe mostly picked Xiao up because he knew if Zhongli found out that Xiao was this injured but Childe didn't do anything, Childe may never get that sparring match with the former Archon that he wants). Childe turned, hopping towards the exit, glaring at dark spots where any monsters could appear. He decided to drop Xiao off at his apartment and then head to Bubu Pharmacy to get something to help with the Adeptus' wounds.

The Harbinger exited the ruins and headed to the Harbor. Childe paused, thinking that maybe he shouldn't bring an injured Yaksha into a city that already hated him. He found a spot to put Xiao down for a moment, and tugged off his grey uniform jacket and wrapped the Adeptus in it. Then the Harbinger carefully made his way to his apartment in the Harbor. Once he entered his residence, Childe set Xiao down on the bed and left for Bubu Pharmacy. As Childe walked out the door, the Adeptus stirred.

...

Xiao awoke, he shot up, wincing from his wounds. His gold eyes narrowed, scanning the dark room he found himself in. The windows were covered but Xiao could tell it was late in the day. Xiao scanned himself, his body was covered in some bandages, rather expertly covered too. Xiao was laying on a bed with crimson sheets. Before he tried to get up, he heard a door opening. Xiao summoned his weapon, making his way towards the sound.

He crouched down, waiting for the person to walk near. Xiao shot toward them, his spear slicing up. Xiao's strike was incepted by a blade of hydro. "Hey hey, calm down" a voice spoken by a familiar gingered haired man. Piercing dead looking blue eyes stared down the Yaksha. The 11th Harbinger stood in front of Xiao, holding a bag of what seemed to be herbs. Tartaglia held out gloved palms, "I don't mean harm". Xiao glared at him. "What am I here for? What do you want?" the Adeptus interrogated. The Harbinger gave an exasperated sigh, a gloved hand guiding Xiao's spear away from himself. "Well, to answer your first question, I'm trying to treat your injures." Childe practically dragged the Adeptus into the room Xiao he awoke in.

...

"Are you going to keep glarin' at me like that?" Childe asked, the freshly bandaged and cleaned Yaksha sat, who could have guessed, glared at the ginger in front of him. Childe sighed, "I'll cook you something. What do you like?"

"Almond tofu..." He heard the Adeptus mutter.

Childe smirked, "Alright then." He turned and hopped of into the kitchen.

Notes:

I might add another chapter later if I get some motivation.
