Five years after the success of this experiment, his son was stolen from him.
Nothing was quite the same after that. He still carried out his experiments and still followed his orders from the Tsaritsa and Pierro. Whenever he could, he would continue his search for that which had been taken. But even he was beginning to lose hope that he'd ever see his son again.
Not until he returned to his home country of Sumeru.
That's where he found him. The General Mahamatra, Cyno.

Summary
Once upon a time, a single drop of sunlight fell from the heavens. From this drop of sun, there grew a magic golden flower. It had the remarkable ability to heal the sick and injured.
Instead of sharing the sun’s gift, a witch named The Lady Bone Demon hoarded its power and used it to keep herself young for hundreds of years.
Not that far away there grew a kingdom. The kingdom was ruled by a beloved king and queen. The queen was about to have a baby. But she got sick. That’s when the people started to seek out a miracle. Or in this case…a magic golden flower.
The magic of the golden flower healed the queen. And a few short months later, a healthy prince was born. To celebrate his birth, the king and queen launched a flying lantern into the sky. And for that moment, everything was perfect.
But a few weeks after his birth, Lady Bone Demon broke into the castle, stole the child, and was gone. The kingdom searched and searched but they could not find the prince. He was gone.
Every year on his birthday, the king and queen released thousands of lanterns into the sky, in hope that one day their lost prince would return.

Summary
It was not his day to die yet as a couple strong coughs came out and whatever-it-was that was in his throat finally ejected itself and landed on his dining room table. He dry heaved and his shoulders shook as air finally found its way back into his body.
His throat was still sore when he caught his breath and the world slowly stopped running circles in front of him. His vision finally cleared up enough to see what he’d just coughed up.
There sitting on the dining room table was a perfect cecilia. Its usually white delicate petals were covered in blood that was dripping from the flower onto the table. Kaeya knew what the problem was the minute he saw it.
So it was official. He was dying.
Kaeya catches Hanahaki, a disease of a dead nation, of which he is one of the sole survivors of. His chosen home of Mondstadt has decided to reject him, now he has to deal with the consequences on his own.
An exploration of Kaeya and his relationships to the people around him as he slowly breaks down.
