Work Text:
Eijirou is the first one back to the apartment, and he’s got tears running down his cheeks.
Today is rough.
Probably the toughest day since debuting.
He knows he has at least an hour before Izuku and Katsuki come home, so he uses that time to rid himself of the stains of today. He tosses his clothes in the hamper, after he finishes changing into some gray sweats, then he heads for their room.
He knows his boyfriends are worried, he saw their texts when he was leaving the agency, but he doesn’t feel up to talking just yet.
Not about how he’d screwed up and Tamaki ended up in the hospital because of his mistake.
Eijirou knows, he knows he couldn’t have predicted the partner when they weren’t aware of it to begin with. He knows that, but he still should’ve paid better attention to their surroundings.
He crawls onto their bed and grabs the orange, weighted triceratops with green scales. As soon as he’s laid flat on his back in the middle of their bed, he lays the large weighted stuffy on his chest and proceeds to breathe as deeply as he can to keep himself from getting emotional again.
He’s still not doing great, but he curls up on his side and tightly holds the weighted dino against his chest anyway. He closes his eyes and hopes that no more tears will fall because his eyes are stinging enough already. He just hopes that everything is gonna be okay.
“Hitoshi is going to kill me for getting Tamaki hurt on a routine patrol.” mumbles Eijirou as he hides his face against the weighted dino, feeling those tears sting at the corners of his eyes. “Should’ve done better, Eijirou. Shouldn’t have let that villain get the drop on you and hurt Tamaki.”
“I know my badass Red isn’t talking down on himself for a situation that couldn’t have fuckin’ been helped.”
“Yeah, I know my sweetheart isn’t thinking Hitoshi or Tamaki are gonna blame him for a villain being a dick.”
Eijirou squeezes his eyes shut at the sound of his boyfriend’s coming into the room, hope and guilt swirling uncomfortably in his gut as he burrows further against the soft dino.
“Sweetheart, you did everything you could, and you helped Tamaki. You took the other villain down and got Tamaki to an ambulance that was three blocks away. You did amazing out there, and I am so, so proud of you.” Izuku’s words are whispered as a hand brushes back through his hair while the bed dips to tell him that Izuku is sitting in front of him on the bed.
“Red, you were so badass out there today. Did fuckin’ great taking those assholes down and protecting Tamaki as well. Even eyebags was sending his thanks ever since he found out what happened. He’s been messaging for an hour now. You did an amazing job today.” adds Katsuki as the other side of the bed dips and a hand brushes up his spine, soft and slow.
“I screwed up, and everything went wrong. Hitoshi and Tamaki are gonna hate me for getting Tamaki hurt and screwing up their first date.” Eijirou’s words are strained and muffled as he speaks into the dino, not lifting his head for a second because he just can’t.
“Sweetheart, Hitoshi said, and I quote, “Tell Eijirou thank you for saving Tamaki from getting injured more. I know he did everything he could considering the surprise attack, and all Tamaki has is a concussion because Eijirou acted so quickly.” I’m pretty sure that neither of them are going to hate you because you did exactly what you were trained to do in a tight situation. We’re all so, so proud of you Ei.” replies Izuku reassuringly as his fingers thread through his hair, nails lightly scratching at his head as kisses brush across his forehead.
“Eyebags still plans to do their first date, just at home, and honestly, it’s fuckin’ better for both of them to do a home date instead. Don’t worry about that, everything’s fine, and you’re fine too. Do you wanna cuddle or something until dinner time?” adds Katsuki softly as he leans in and presses kisses to his shoulders while continuing to lightly run his hands up and down his back comfortingly.
“I gotta see what Hitoshi messaged me first, but then yeah… I really want cuddles until dinner.” murmurs Eijirou shakily as he lifts his head, twisting to ensure he sees emerald eyes and ruby eyes before he adjusts his hand to find his phone that he’d put under his pillow when he got to the room. “Did you guys already shower and change before coming home?”
“We were doing meetings and office work today, so no need to shower and change. Just took for-fucking-ever to get home because Hawks wouldn’t let us leave the stupid ass budgeting meeting.” grumbles Katsuki as he pressed himself against Eijirou’s back, wrapping his arm around his waist as he sets his chin on Eijirou’s shoulder.
“Yeah, Hawks was on something today, so I think I’m going to go ahead and call in for all of us for tomorrow. If I have to see him on patrol tomorrow, I might actually throw him into the damn ocean.” huffs Izuku as he pulls out his own phone to send an email for Eijirou and schedule him and Katsuki off on their schedule.
Eijirou gives a watery chuckle as he finally looks at the messages from Hitoshi, and wow, there’s a lot of messages. They range from, “I hope you’re okay!” to “Tamaki’s only got a concussion, thanks to you and your quick thinking. Thank you for being awesome!” and finally, “Neither of us blame you, Tama wanted me to say it again because he said you’re probably blaming yourself. We hope you’ll be up for dinner tomorrow because we’re inviting you over to my apartment for dinner. Zu and Blasty are invited as well. See you tomorrow at seven for dinner.”
“Ah, looks like we’ve been invited to dinner with Toshi and Maki tomorrow night at seven.” says Eijirou softly, the weight on his chest dissipating some at the realization that his two friends don’t blame him for the mess that happened tonight. He sighs into Katsuki’s hold as Izuku takes his phone and drops both of their phones on his side table. “Cuddle time?”
“Cuddle time.” replies Izuku softly as he scoots up so Eijirou can tuck his head under his chin, wrapping an arm under both Eijirou and Katsuki while circling his other arm around them as well.
Eijirou carefully adjusts the weighted dino so that he can still lay against it without being muffled by it because he wants to feel Izuku’s skin.
Now, they’re a mess of tangled limbs, curled together to provide comfort that easily melts away the panic he’s felt since he put Tamaki in the back of that ambulance. Katsuki’s got a hand under the dino, pressed above Eijirou’s heart on his chest, the other wrapped under their waists so it presses firmly into Izuku’s lower back. Izuku’s got one hand pressing firmly into Katsuki’s lower back while the other is pressed high between Eijirou’s shoulder blades and Katsuki’s heart.
Eijirou takes his first steady breath, and he feels smiles pressed against his shoulder and into his hair. This is what he needed.
Not only reassurances from Hitoshi and Tamaki, but reassurance and comfort from his partners.
His eyes fall shut, and everything else melts away.
It’s just the three of them wrapped together with a weighted dino, and it’s perfect.
