Chapter Text
Huggy Wuggy wraps his arms around his wife. HE wasn’t sure what to think when Kissy brought him to meet the former princess and the dog they were taking care of. It went against his teachings to support people who deny Proto, but Huggy trusts his wife. She would never trust or love murderers. He always thought the rumors about the rebels were exaggerated anyway.
He sent a letter to the saint and, of course, he received a response at the worst possible time. They had just found out the former princess and the dog were hidden in their mansion. He and Kissy knew they couldn’t reject the Saint now that he’s decided to come. It would be rude and far too suspicious. Kissy isn’t happy with him now.
“How could you?” Kissy slams the letter down. “How could you do this behind my back?”
“I had to, Kissy,” Huggy reaches out to take her hands and calm her down.
“Why! Why do you need to talk to the Saint so badly?” Kissy steps out of his reach. “Are you trying to hurt my family?” Her accusing tone ignites Huggy’s own temper. How could she think he would ever want to hurt her?
“Because I love you!” Huggy stands so abruptly his chair falls over. “Because I want to give you kids! We both know I can’t give you that, but the Saint can fix it!” Huggy sucks in a ragged breath. “I know you always wanted kids, and I do too, but I’m–” Huggy looks down at his hands, “–defective.”
“Huggy…” Kissy is quick to hug him. “I’ve never thought of you as defective. I love you.”
“I love you,” Huggy looks up at her. “I love you so much and want to give you everything…but I can’t.”
“You idiot,” Kissy sighs. “If not having kids was a deal breaker we would have divorced years ago.”
“What?”
“I love you, you big idiot,” Kissy pulls him into a kiss. Huggy sinks into it, always happy to kiss his wife. He might need the reassurance that she loves him too. Maybe.
“My lord,” the butler clears his throat as he knocks on the open door. “The Saint is here.”
Kissy pulls away and nods grimly. “Let’s do this.”
Huggy nods as they stand together to face the Saint and keep the two people Kissy considers family hidden. Huggy might not know the whole story, but he’s going to stand by his wife no matter what.
