Summary
When news spreads to Firelight leader Maelstrom that his deputy, Shaun, was murdered by Silco, he is forced to make a difficult yet necessary decision, naming Ekko the new deputy and placing him and his fellow teenagers in military training. Ekko doesn't believe that he could ever be a good leader. Not in the same way that Vi was. Ever since he was young, Ekko proved himself a loyal follower, willing to fight for Vi and the rest of his friends. The idea of having to be responsible for the Firelights one day sends him into a state of panic. He rebels against his instructors in training, but Maelstrom sees a strong potential in Ekko that the boy has yet to recognize himself.
When Ekko reunites with Jinx for the first time in four years, the two rekindle their bond, running away from their responsibilities and meeting up in secret, their love blooming deeper than ever before. But Silco is looking to kill the Firelight leader, and with Ekko as deputy, trouble is bound to arise, especially with Jinx in his presence. Loyalty will be tested and hearts will be broken. No two people in the world are born as enemies.
