Summary:

“That was a close one.” Mingi replies, still sounding like he has several cotton balls in his mouth.

Work Text:

San, being the ever trying boyfriend, is baking cookies for Mingi. He’s been complaining that he’s never tasted his baking since they started going out so he thought he’d surprise him. Plus Mingi’s been out teaching back to back classes today and could use a pick me up.

Mingi doesn’t ever have to say much for San to do what he wants. It's the perks of having been best friends for so long and it didn’t change once they started dating. San is easily persuaded by him and the funny thing is Mingi knows that and uses it to his advantage from time to time. Even so, San gives in just the same.

Although he’s not the best baker in the world and he’s had his countless disasters in the past (Mingi can testify to that), he’s gotten better as the years have gone by. He remembers the very first time he baked for him, it was for his birthday and it turned out to be a complete monstrosity but Mingi being Mingi ate the entire sorry excuse of a cake without any complaints.

After that, San tried his hardest to get better and he likes to believe that he has the hang of it now. However, since he started dating Mingi, he took a step back from baking to focus more on his singing gigs which thankfully they've been picking up more.

He’s just kneading the dough right now and he’s reminded of Mingi’s cheeks with how plump and supple they are. Thinking like this made San miss him even more and couldn’t wait until he got home. Hopefully he wouldn't arrive too late. He’s counting down the hours as he toils away on these cookies, praying they turn out well enough for Mingi to enjoy. It’s been a while, after all and a part of him is afraid that he’s gotten rusty.

After some time, he finishes everything and puts the now ready to be baked cookies in the oven. He sets a timer and cleans up the mess he made in the kitchen because Lord knows Mingi would make a fuss if he leaves it like that.

When the cookies are done some twelve tedious minutes later, he carefully takes them out wearing oven mitts with cats on them (which Mingi had of course gifted him) and sets them on the counter to cool down. He had made two batches of two different kinds of cookies, one type he knows are Mingi’s favorite.

They turned out pretty well, look wise, but the quality of the taste had yet to be determined. That would be a Mingi job.

He decides to leave the house for a bit to run some errands. It didn't take him very long to get everything completed, granted he only went to the post office and dropped off a container he borrowed from his friend Yunho but still. He couldn't wait for Mingi to praise him about getting everything on his to-do list done. That was the thing about Mingi, he made everything seem like a big deal.

San takes his time getting back home. After all, Mingi wouldn't be home for a while yet. He passes by the scenic route. There’s a little pond near the house that he and Mingi now share, there’s always a plethora of ducks that swim in the water there. He continues and there’s a playground with small children playing and laughing amongst themselves.

The slight breeze feels good on his skin and the warmth the sunlight brings reminds him of Mingi's tight embrace on lazy Sunday mornings.

Even now, it’s the little things that make him think of his Mingi. It’s more quiet than he likes it to be. He much rather prefers Mingi rambling cutely about nothing in particular that always brings a smile to San’s face without fail. He hopes that he will be at the house by the time he arrives, but that's just wishful thinking. He remembers his grumbling boyfriend saying that with the amount of classes he had that day he wouldn’t be home until much later to his dismay.

However when he walks through the door with a disgruntled huff, the last thing he expects to see is his beloved scarfing down a cookie in the kitchen with no consequence.

“Min?” San asks. “I didn’t think you would be home already.”

Mingi nods. “Last class got canceled.” His voice sounds different somehow like he’s biting down on his tongue while speaking.

That’s when San notices something amiss about him. His lips are swollen and he’s sweating like crazy.

“Min? What cookies are you eating?”

"The ones that were on the counter.” His voice slurs a bit and it’s hard to understand him.

It sets in almost immediately, the cause of the problem. He slaps Mingi's hand so he’d drop the cookie. “Those have cinnamon!”

Mingi stares at the now broken cookie on the ground before bringing his gaze back to San. “Oops.” He starts wheezing suddenly, hand clutching his chest.

“Ah!” San clasps his hands together, a lightbulb flickers on in his brain. “Min, where's your epi pen?!”

“Camera… bag.” Mingi manages to say.

"Is your tongue swelling up too?” San asks as he runs to grab Mingi’s bag that is lying in the living room’s couch.

“Either that or my mouth is getting smaller.” Mingi replies nonchalantly, barely loud enough for a worried San to hear.

San opens the bag and rummages through it before finally finding the epi pen, he quickly brings it over to Mingi who’s looking close to passing out. He struggles to get it open so he can inject Mingi. His hands start to shake, afraid that he’d do it wrong or hurt him somehow.

He looks to Mingi who merely shakes his head, he takes it from San and pushes it into his leg. With a sigh of relief, Mingi starts to calm down little by little. He takes a few deep breaths as he wipes the beads of impending sweat from his brow.

“That was a close one.” Mingi replies, still sounding like he has several cotton balls in his mouth.

“A close one? Min, you had me so-” San starts but is interrupted by Mingi embracing him.

“Have I told you I loved you today?” Mingi asks, tightening his hold around his stressed out boyfriend.

“Baby, that's not-”

Have I?” Mingi repeats in a low voice. San shakes his head.

“No.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too.” San sighs heavily, slightly pushing Mingi away from him. “Seriously, Min, can’t you tell the difference between snickerdoodle and chocolate chip?”

Mingi shrugs. "I was just excited to taste your baking after such a long time. And hey, I’ll have you know they tasted good up until the moment I thought I was going to die.”

“You're an idiot.” San hits him on the head with the back of his hand.

“Maybe, but I’m your idiot.” Mingi has that look in his eye that only seems to want one thing. He leans in like he’s about to kiss San but he presses a finger to his mouth before he can give in to his wishes.

“Hmm, nice try but your lips are still swollen.” San replies, a grin sweeps across his lips.

Mingi pouts. “Then kiss me somewhere else.”

San nods with no hesitation. He cups Mingi’s face in his hands and presses his lips to his cheek. Then to the other. Mingi giggles with each peck that he gives him. Lastly, San peppers kisses alongside his jawline.

“There. Satisfied?” San asks, sweeping Mingi’s hair back. His forehead is warm to the touch and still has remnants of sweat.

Mingi takes San’s hand in his and squeezes their intertwined hands lightly. He’s looking at him again, this time like he’s more than convinced San put the stars in the sky. He leans in, pressing his forehead to San’s. “With you? Always.”
