Work Text:

Twice woke up.

He wasn’t supposed to be here. He didn’t want to be here.

He was finally in the good place with Magne and his parents and his cat, and the place he was in was just him. He was falling through a sea of hims, which were somehow making a wave over the ground..?

That’s awesome!

He must’ve not been a part of the weird hive-mind the rest of hims seemed to be in. They were like ants. He really liked ants! He was so confused, until he saw them.

Her. But it wasn’t really her, it was a her with a melting image of his face. And it wasn’t really her, because she was angry at that round-faced girl. Ochako, maybe. He was horrible with names. So good at it!

Toga was never angry at the people she loved. Sure, stabby, but stabby and angry were two completely different things! Toga’s way of showing love was reserved only for her crushes. She never got mad at her crushes.

He climbed him. He had a surprisingly climbable back. Grippy. He didn’t realize how textured his suit was until right now. Giran was great at making his suits. How was Giran? Did he escape-

FOCUS!

He snapped himself out of it. It almost seemed like his brain was more scatterbrained. Almost like dying scrambled his brain again. Ugh. This sucked.

I mean, he was actually a clone now.

Shaddup.

Serious! If he just got a hero to off him sooner, it would’ve saved him a lotta trouble!

Literally be quiet. I need to focus.

He stood up on another him. He waved his- no, her handkerchief in the air. “TOGA! Toga, I’m back! Stop fighting! I object!

Both girls turned their heads to him. Ochako’s eyes widened. Toga’s narrowed. “Don’t even try to impersonate him, you clone! Help me beat Hawks!”

“No, it’s me! For real! The others don’t have-” He waved the handkerchief. He didn’t know where he got it. I mean technically, he wasn’t actually him. But he was, wasn’t he? “You always wrap me up real nice! Please, Toga!”

Toga stared at him, her eyes brimming with tears. They were probably angry tears. Toga never cried sad tears. Twice doubted she even could. Ochako took this opportunity to grab Toga with all five fingers. Her- and everything else she was touching, which was all the clones- began to float.

Zero-Gravity was weird. It reminded him of those things in the mall that blew the air really hard. Like the tornado simulator!

Wait, no. He had to keep going. It would get a lot harder to climb if the only thing near enough to climb was the air. Wait, wasn’t that what flying was?

He sprung off the nearest clone. It disintegrated behind him. He had to save her. Even if that meant dying again, and again.

“Toga, you gotta believe me!”

“I don’t! Help me fight, you clone!”

She was really angry. Toga’s tongue was never sharp, except when she was talking to people like Overhaul. But the words felt like daggers this time.

Twice didn’t know what had gotten her so worked up, so he looked around. He immediately regretted it.

So much blood and bodies and- and Hawks?! What was that big mass of hands?! The big Godzilla Creature looked like Spinner.

But he had to focus.

“Toga! What’s happening?!”

“Ugh!” She slashed at Ochako, effectively knocking her out. “This blood must be bad. Aren’t you clones supposed to remember everything I know?!”

“I’m not a clone!” He screamed. They had begun to go into free fall. “Toga, it’s me, for reals! I’m a fake! Magne’s in heaven! We were finally happy, but then I got pulled back down!”

Toga’s eyes shone with.. Something. Recognition? Anger? No, not anger.

“Well- Is she finally in the right body?”

“Yes! She’s in her body now, and it’s all okay! We’re gonna be not okay if we hit the ground!

He realized other him had a point. The ground was approaching fast. Meanie. He realized that he had to do something.

“Toga! I’m going to make those- those firefighter thingies that protect from fall damage! But I only have enough clones left for one- For you and Ochako.” He had tears in his eyes. He had come back not even a few minutes ago. He knew Toga would take his loss as hard as the first time.

“Jin! You can’t!” She was hugging Ochako like a lifeline. “I can’t- I can’t lose you again! This isn’t fair! Not fair, not fair, not fair!”

But he had already made up his mind.

He pushed the clone towards them. He hoped it would be able to take the impact. Usually objects like pillows were more durable than ones like sticks.

“Toga! Make sure to kiss your Girlfriend a ton! You're so cute together! If she hurts you I’ll haunt her forever! ” He smiled. “Say hi to the rest of the League for me!”

He didn’t even feel the impact.
