Chapter Text
Stepping out of his room Ash takes a deep breath and smiles. He pulls his suitcase behind him, ready for the next day.
“You know, I heard Alola's Pokémon were different! Apparently they can be different types.” She commented, from the bottom of the stairs, her own suitcase propped up next to her.
“Professor Oak mentioned that some single types like Muk are dual types.” Ash added, following her into the dining room.
Delia smiled, “you sure are learning a whole lot doing all this research for him.”
Ash nodded, “it's so cool! I was thinking of doing a bit of my own research while we’re here.”
Delia laughed, “I’m surprised delivering the egg was the only thing he asked you to do.”
Ash laughed, “me too! I thought for sure he’d want a few pictures or some data.”
Delia smiled at her son, “knowing you, he won’t have to ask. He’ll get an earful of it anyways!”
Ash sheepishly rubs the back of his neck while his mom laughed at his expression, prompting Ash to laughing too. Her laughter was truly contagious.
They ate dinner before going to bed, excitement for the next day building up.
*Flashback*
“Ash, will you come over here for a minute?” Professor Oak asks as he sets a container down on the table.
Ash, who was finishing up his data research from Kalos, in another room, nodded and got up. “Sure.” He replied as he walked into the room.
Professor Oak pulled off the container lid revealing a reddish brown Pokémon egg. The egg wiggled as it sensed his aura before settling down.
Ash smiled directing his aura towards the egg in a friendly manner. The egg’s aura greeted his excited, giving him the impression that the Pokémon was very happy. The aura is one of a fire type.
“What’s with the egg?” Ash asked as he peered at it curious. All Pokémon have auras unique to them but their auras also have distinct characteristics that are the same with their typing and classification.
Auras typings appear on the ground in what ash likes to call, their personal space bubble. For example fire types have a ring of fire around them and the flames are a reflection of the Pokémon’s emotional state.
If they’re nervous the flames will be low to the ground and spark up every time they panic. If they’re happy the fire will be higher and appear to be dancing around them, reaching out to others in a friendly manner. But if they’re angry then the fire will be high and chaotic, lashing out at anyone who gets too close.
Professor Oak smiled, “well as you know I’m doing some research on regional variants.” Ash nodded.
“And I’ve been trying to figure out how to send this egg over. My cousin has the Alolan version and the idea is to raise them together to see how the climate affects the Kanto one and spot the differences between the two. Anyways, I figured out the solution to my problem.” He stated proudly.
Ash waited for him to continue but after a moment of silence it became clear that he wasn’t going to speak so he spoke up, “..which is?”
“You!” Professor Oak exclaimed, “You have worked with eggs in the past and yesterday you were talking about going there on vacation. So if it isn't any bother could you please deliver this egg?” He asked.
Ash nodded, “absolutely, there should be plenty of time to take care of the egg before we drop it off and I’m sure Mom won’t mind.”
“Thank you.” He responded.
Ash nodded, “if that’s it, I’m going to finish entering the last bit of information before asking the Pokémon who wants to come with me. I have a feeling it might take all day.”
Professor Oak laughed, “well I’ll leave it to you, it sounds like you have action packed days ahead of you.”
Ash snorted, “no kidding. Though, I think I already know who I’m taking with me.”
“Oh?” Professor Oak asked, “and just who might they be?”
Ash smiled mischievously, “now that would be telling.”
Professor Oak laughed and shook his head, “alright. You run along now.”
*End of Flashback*
Ash smiled, and grabbed the incubator off his desk. He is curious to see what Pokémon was in the egg. He took off the lid to inspect the egg. The egg itself is a brownish red with swirls around the bottom filled in with a darker shade, it reminded him of vulpix tails.
As of knowing who he was thinking about the egg wobbled and then stilled. He smiled at the egg and placed the incubated lid back on before exiting the room.
He quickly dressed and grabbed the incubator, letting Pikachu perch on him as they went downstairs.
As he descended the staircase Pikachu climbed off his shoulder and went to greet Mr. Mine and his mom.
“Hey Mr. Mime!” As said as he stepped into the living room.
“Mime!”
“Chaa~”
Delia smiled, “hello to you too, Ash!”
Ash smiles, “hi Mom.”
“Are you ready to go?” She asked
“Yup!” Ash exclaimed, grinning as he patted his pocket that held his Pokéballs. He’s so happy that Professor Oak was able to change his carry limit in time for this vacation. He just knows his Pokémon will love the weather.
Delia smiled softly, it was nice to see her son so relaxed. After he came back from Kalos he was quiet and reserved, not talking to anyone but his Pokémon.
It's great to see him smiling again. The distant look in his eyes has lessened, a childlike excitement breaking through his carefully crafted walls. She thought she’d never see him smile again.
Although she was surprised to see him opening up so fast. She suspected that it was largely due to the fact that he was able to take more Pokémon with him. Though the prospect of new Pokemon certainly didn’t hurt either.
Shaking herself out of her thoughts she opened the door and —with the help of her phone— began directing them towards the Airport.
She was mildly amused when she saw her son pull out his Pokédex and frown at it, apparently still getting used to its updates. The new Pokédex was a gift from Professor Oak in order to help Ash explore the new region and collect more accurate data.
Since Ash had already expressed that he wasn’t going to be traveling Professor Oak had gone ahead and imported the Pokédex of that region.
Ash seemed particularly interested in learning about how the Pokémon differ from the ones he knows. His friends are still working on convincing him to get social media accounts.
She should know, she’s seen the —handwritten— letters Ash has been sending and receiving. He often complains to her about how he doesn’t need ‘another dumb app’ when ‘I can just call them when I get to the Pokémon Center.’ He got especially sassy when she pointed out that it only worked when they knew where to call.
At last, Ash relented. He agreed to download one ‘1’ app. And after asking his friends to vote they chose…
