He had been away from her for too long.
7 years had been more than enough time to drive him insane.
Without her touch, her sweet kisses, and her gentle morning prayers, Vito had nothing. But he was back where he belonged. In the arms of a woman he could never truly be with.
He knew that Francesca felt the same way and wished for a better life for the both of them, but that just wasn't possible.

"Can I confess somethin' to you, sis?" Vittorio gently asked, lifting his scarred brow as he watched how elegantly Frankie turned just to look at him from the kitchen doorway.
Everything she did overwhelmed Vito and he wasn't entirely certain that it was a good thing or not.
" 'course Vito, what is it?" Francesca chirped with a smile that could last a million lifetimes, and Vito uncrossed his arms from his suited chest, sauntered over the threshold of the kitchen doorway, and putting his hands on Francesca's.
She was never alarmed or surprised by anything that her baby brother did. Only ever welcomed him into her space whenever they were together.
"Live with me!" He blurted enthusiastically, something that was rare coming from Vito, and he smiled brightly, hoping that maybe this time Francesca would say yes.
She blinked her pretty cocoa eyes a couple times and shook her head, putting a hand to Vito's cheek.
"You know that I can't." She tenderly replied only for her brother to lift her up in his arms and spin around the living room with her.
Vito chuckled and so did Francesca.
"Say you'll live with me, Frankie, come on." He chirped, holding her tight.
Her arms fell about his neck, dainty fingers lightly tugging on the soft material of his black suit jacket from the back. Her giggling stopped when her lips touched the throbbing pulse on the side of Vito's neck and her legs wrapped around his waist like twin vines.
Vito swallowed hard and Francesca touched the tip of her nose to his Adam's apple as she inhaled his smell.
They were no longer twirling together around the room.
The younger sibling had lost his footing and fell backwards onto the floor. A groan escaped him but his beloved sister cradled his face in her warm hands and kissed his cheeks.
All of Vito's pain subsided right then and there, and all he wanted to do then was kiss her lips and hold her close.

After watching Francesca leave his house, and watching her drive away and blowing him a loving kiss, Vito went back inside, poured himself a glass of whiskey, and sat down at the kitchen table, staring at the counter where his sister stood only moments ago.
He closed his eyes after another gulp of the smooth liquor and leaned back with a little creak from the chair beneath his weight.
Francesca was still there.
She was always there.
