Jack weakly raised his hand to cup Davey's face, smiling slowly as blood trickled down his chin.
"You're so fucking handsome, y'know that Davey?"
Davey's face was red, tears spilling down his face like waterfalls, landing on Jack's cheek.
"No need to cry. I'll always be here."
Davey let out a sob.
Jack's brow furrowed. "Davey- Davey I promise."
Davey shook his head. "Don't leave me Jack."
Jack felt his body go numb. He didn't have much time left. "I- I love- I love you, Davey."
Davey started to hyperventilate. "Jack- Jack please- JACK LISTEN TO ME! DON'T YOU DARE GO CLOSE YOUR EYES-"
Jack lowered Davey's head with the little strength he could muster, placing a soft blood kiss on Davey's lips.
"Goodbye." Jack whispered.
Jack woke up. A redhead with freckles and a pale facial scar greeted him, a smirk on his face.
"Nice to see you again, Jack Kelly." Albert held out a hand after spitting on it.
Jack felt a pang of sadness deep in his heart. He left Davey alone.
"Jack?" A taller boy with blonde hair and a cigar hanging out of his shirt pocket walked up to Al and Jack.
Race.
Finch was behind him, teasing Buttons with tiny pebbles shot from his slingshot. And behind them was JoJo laughing with Crutchie about some stupid joke with Elmer clueless as ever.
Mush talking with Kid Blink and Tommy Boy rolling his eyes. Henry doing a flip while Romeo and Specs cheer him on.
Sniper, Smalls and Splasher playing a game of tag. Some of the Brooklyn newsies like HotShot watching them. Mike and Ike pranking Bart with Les.
And one person was missing.
Jack's new home would never feel like home until Davey was there.
And everyday Jack would wait in the field he woke up in, not ready to join the rest of the newsboys until the love of his life, the man he felt was his entire universe, the planet he revolved around and the stars he looked up to, was there to hold hands with him once more.
