Work Text:
Fairywood never slept, it seemed.
Juandissimo had never needed to have much of a grasp on the media subculture in Fairyworld- he got enough attention by just looking as handsome as he was- but since forming an unsuspected bond with one of its main employees, he found himself on the inside. And it wasn't quite as glamorous as he assumed.
It would be barely light when he would come and pay Cupid a visit, sneaking into his dressing room before he stepped foot on the premises to surprise him. Or to scare him. Or... he wasn't really sure. But he always showed up with a sexy smile and playfully commented on how cute he was when he was painting his eyelids bright pink for the day, and it seemed like Cupid quite liked the company. More than often, Cupid didn't show up for a little while longer than Juandissimo suspected, leaving him to look around... which anyone else may have seen as an invasion of privacy. The dressing room was pretty much exactly what the cherub would have wanted, pink walls and heart shapes scattered around the vanity and tables, a coffee machine perched next to a large selection of espresso pods and a full-body length mirror- strange. For someone who was almost as pretty as Juandissimo, he didn't seem to have many photos of himself. If the room was under construction of the fairy, he would have splashed his face onto the wallpaper if it was allowed... but his train of thought was halted abruptly when the cherub walked in, bags under his eyes and didn't even say "hello" before slamming the coffee machine on. Thus began this little routine of Juandissimo bringing the gift of caffeine along with him.
Which was good for both of them, until, of course, the coffee starts to get cold. Plastic takeaway lids can only do so much, but Juan could ask questions.
"Is he here yet?"
"No, I told you the last two times. He arrives at 8:30 and today he immediately has to do script reads- and I don't know how much clearer I have to be but he doesn't have time for you to bother him!" Juandissimo stood dumbfounded as a flustered teal Fairywood runner clutched a clipboard to her side while using the other to poke him in the chest. "I can give you a copy of the schedule sheet if it means you'll leave me alone."
Juandissimo nodded, meekly, taking the piece of folded A4 that she pushed into his hand before walked away, yelling at somebody else through an earpiece from what it sounded like.
... The paper really did look crammed. A day in Fairywood seemed like a lot, especially for Cupid with his multiple responsibilities... but the snappy girl was right, he wouldn't have time to meet Juan in his dressing room. Or pick up his coffee. Cupid must be exhausted right now! The fairy hummed, pacing around the fluffy pink room as he tried to form some sort of game plan: he didn't WANT to annoy Cupid or get him into trouble, but... something had been getting to him for a while... Something he desperately wanted clarification on from the pink-haired angel. He was losing his macho over the idea of it, and he would be damned if he allowed... what was her name... Fizzy or something, to ruin this for him.
Yeah... Juandissimo thought to himself as he sadly put the discarded americano on the dressing room table to be dealt with later, if I know where he's gonna be, I can really quickly talk to him and if anyone has a problem with it then... well. He didn't really have many skills other than being very sexy. It should be fine.
The room of his script thing was pretty easy to find anyway, just a few corridors to float down and one set of giant blue doors to fling open dramatically, and of course eyes lighting up as he spotted him. First there, obviously. He did tend to complain about his colleagues time management, but when it was this early, it was easier to forgive.
The godparent almost tripped over himself grabbing a chair next to him, beaming.
"Oh, God what are you doing here?"
Juandissimo did feel a little pang in his chest that the cherub wasn't immediately over the moon to see him... although he did look stressed. He was flipping through a thick wad of paper and scribbling in the margins- his handwriting surprisingly messier than anything Juandissimo would have thought. Like a swirlier version of chicken scratch.
"I am here to see you!"
"That's nice- can you not, like, wait until I have a free minute though?"
"What, like just before your photo thing at half 10?"
"Huh-"
"Because that wouldn't work, you'd be getting all the attention from hair and makeup or whoever they hired to fawn over you and you wouldn't be able to admire me properly."
"How do you know that I- are you following me!?" Juandissimo never did seem to understand boundaries until directly addressed.
"Oh. Um.. no. Frizz gave me a copy of her schedule so I'd leave her alone," Juan showed Cupid the colour-coded grid in his hands. "See?"
Both their eyes scanned the paper, the pink man's eyebrows furrowed like he was trying to comprehend what was right in front of him.
"You- is there something wrong with you?" Cupid snapped; he must have noticed the genuine droop in the fairy's smile, as he put the script down onto the table and sighed at him. "Ok. Thank you. For coming to see me, it is sweet, I just really need to look through this stuff and get it all pre-annotated so I don't look stupid in front of my coworkers."
"You never look stupid."
Cupid looked up at him for a moment, then shrugged. "It's still, like, a lot."
"... Can I at least stay while you talk to your friends?"
"They're not my friends. I don't like them. I just like getting payed."
"... do you want me to insult them then-" Juandissimo paused, stammering as he felt a hand press up gently against his arm.
"No, Juan, honey, I just think you should go before they come in. Just in case they get weird."
"Oh..." That felt strange. Like someone had turned up the heating and punched him in the stomach at the same time... of course Cupid wasn't gonna want to talk to him right now! He was famous and busy and Juandissimo was getting in his way... did he always do that?
"It's not anything against you, you know?"
"Pfft, obviously!" Juandissimo rolled his eyes and sat up straight once again, leaning against the chair as if he didn't feel really stupid. Maybe he was stupid. It was the whole reason he wanted to talk to him- that unfamiliar feeling that he got around him that made him feel like he got everything so, so constantly incorrect. "I'm too sexy to think that way."
"Good! Uh.. well..." The door opened again, giving access to two fashionably dressed men holding their own wads of script, and surely enough, eyeing the cherub and his companion in confusion and heavy "get him out of here" undertones. "I'll find you after work."
"Sí."
Would he? Juandissimo didn't want to get his hopes up just for Cupid to be tired and head home without a second thought: was that selfish? Cupid was allowed to be tired after work. He worked in FAIRYWOOD! And the Love Domain! He sighed, looking over the schedule again- there was an opportunity to chat at about 2:30, but would he want that now? Perhaps Juandissimo misread Cupid's enjoyment at the previous visits. He was probably just feigning interest in the first place... how could the fairy have even began to consider that visiting him at work was what he wanted?! Why was it so hard to think when it came to him? How long would this have to go on before he became some pile of muddled idiocy around the cherub- no, the God of Love!? Of course he didn't stand a chance. No sane person would have tried to insert themselves into his life. And yet here he was now, standing outside the gates of Fairywood with two reservations to the restaurant Cupid mentioned liking that he was going to have to cancel like a rejected worm. If he ever had the nerve to ask him out again, he'd put the amount of planning in that Cupid deserved. He should have put more effort in today. God, he was so stupid.
