Haunting Memories

Summary:

Sophie waits for Harry and gets lost in her thoughts.

Notes:

So I am participating in Fandom Empire's Monopoly challenge this year and this is my first work! I got the prompt Paris with an exact wc of 350 words.

The second I saw Paris was my prompt I knew it had to be about Sophie for the first one.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Sophie sat at the small table waiting. She made sure to look as though she wasn't though. She had a book and was doing her best to fit into the locals surrounding her. Which was an easy feat for her. Paris was always one of her favorite cities to visit. She had so many memories in the city, everything from stealing beautiful art to vacations.

To  say nothing of the time she and Nate had shot each other.

She smiled at the memory. It had been painful, getting shot always was, but something about that day always warmed her heart. It was the first time she knew for sure they had seen each others faces. It was the day she had first realized he didn't hate the insurance investigator.

Paris had also been the first stop on their honeymoon years ago.

This trip was not her first back since Nate had died. No, it had been her first solo trip after coming back to her team and finding her footing again. That time she had said a goodbye and had finally been ready to move on. She would never have been able to take her current one otherwise.

Because Harry had insisted on it. He wanted to take a romantic trip with her now that they were dating. In his mind there was no more romantic trip than Paris and she wanted to indulge him. Even if the city made her sad. She was happy to make new memories there. But both of them knew it wasn't the trip that Harry wanted. He knew the memories were too much for her.

But there would be other trips. They would have time and chances to find their own special place that meant more to them than any other. It just couldn't be the city that had meant so much to her and Nate.

She couldn't help the smile on her face as Harry came back from the bakery carrying a much bigger bag than he should have been.

"So," he started, "I may have gotten a bit more than originally intended."
