Work Text:

Taking Sophie to Paris and really all of France had been somewhat of a disaster. Not in the sense that they hadn't had an enjoyable time. But Harry hadn't realized just what the city had meant to Sophie. Until they were there he hadn't known how much it meant to her and her history with Nate. She had been so sad the whole time thinking about him and how much time they should have had. Not really the best for a romantic vacation. But she hadn't left him over the mess and he was going to make it up to her somehow.

So he decided to take her on another trip. To a different country that wasn't so broiled in her past.

He chose to take her to Italy.

Which turned out better. Sophie smiled a lot more as they went from city to city across the country. Only there was still a problem. Sophie had spent a lot of time in the country before they had met. By herself. Back when grifting was her lifeblood. So instead of getting to spend a lot of time anywhere they had to move city to city lest someone recognize her. He didn't mind but he rushing around wasn't the most relaxing.

But he did get to see Pompeii. Which was on his bucket list. And was the coolest thing ever. Sophie hadn't loved it as much as he did but he had seen the way she watched him.

They were on the plane on the way back to New Orleans. Sophie had fallen asleep with her head resting on his shoulder. He knew he hadn't really failed to provide a vacation. But it had felt so rushed and not really something special to them. It had just been a whirlwind. The next one would be better. He hoped.
