Seeing Colour

Summary:

It had been a while since Vox learnt of Alastor's colourblindness, but that didn't mean he was doing nothing! No. Not at all. It took him years to develop the perfect gift for his partner.

Notes:

Short one shot because I'm going through some stuff mentally

Work Text:

“Alastor! There you are!” Vox waved down his partner as he ran down the stairs to meet up with him. “Come on! I got a surprise for you! Everyone is waiting for you in the living room!”

Alastor narrowed his eyes but huffed a sigh. He grabbed Vox's hand and let him lead him to the living room where everyone was waiting. Charlie and Niffty looked absolutely giddy and even Rosie was there. “What did you do?” Alastor looked at Vox, his brows furrowed a bit. “When you said ‘everyone’, I didn't think Rosie would be here.”

“What? Are you disappointed, Darling?” Rosie flicked her hand as she spoke. Her tone was teasing and she had a sparkle to her eyes.

Alastor decided to take in everyone. Emily was sitting beside Charlie, her head leaning on her friend's shoulder while Vaggie sat beside Charlie and held her hand.

Husk was sitting on the floor with Angel partially on his lap with Niffty laying on the coffee table. She was kicking her legs as she stared at them all excitedly. Rosie was sitting in Alastor's chair, a smirk on her features. The weirdest part was everyone was wearing different outfits. Clothing Alastor has never seen before. Vox was even wearing the outfit they killed Valentino in.

“I didn't kill anyone.” Alastor grumbled, his ears flattened back a bit.

Vox snorted out a laugh and waved his hand dismissively. “I told you I have a surprise for you, this is something super important and we all wanted to surprise you.”

That did nothing to ease Alastor's nerves, especially when Vox brought out a small from his pocket. He handed it to Alastor and everyone's smiles turned even more giddy.

Alastor examined the box carefully before he sighed and opened it. There were contacts inside the box.

“My vision is fine.” Alastor glared at Vox.

Vox rolled his eyes and scoffed. “Just put them on. I worked really hard on these and did a lot of testing to make sure it worked.”

Alastor examined the contacts carefully before he huffed and put them on, blinking his eyes rapidly to get them in their place. Vox threw his hands over Alastor's eyes. “Are you ready?”

“I guess.” Alastor's ears were still pinned back, he was clearly a little fearful of whatever was going on.

Vox pulled his hands back and did a little twirl as he joined the hotel gang. “Ta-da!” He threw his arms out and beckoned to everyone with a wide grin.

Alastor stared at everyone with wide eyes. He slowly approached them with a hand reached out.

“You…”

“You said you liked pink and orange a lot.” Angel spoke up. He stood up and approached the Radio Demon. “So we took it upon ourselves to dress up a bit.”

Everyone was wearing an assortment of different colours. Green, pink, orange, blue, purple, red, everything but yellow.

“I can… see.” Alastor sounded in complete disbelief. “You're…” He pointed at them all in disbelief before he turned to Angel. “You're pink.” Alastor gasped.

“That I am.” Angel sounded so smug as he crossed his legs.

Alastor looked to Emily and Vox, the two people who could always only see. “Wow.” He whispered. “You're so vibrant.” He spoke to Vox. “Were you always this bright?”

“I was.” Vox confirmed.

Emily got up and ran over to Alastor. She grabbed his hands and did a little spin. “Alastor! How do we look? What about the hotel?” She asked with a wide smile.

“You're…” Alastor trailed off as he took a good look at everyone.

Everyone had smiles on their faces, Rosie had also gotten up and approached her best friend.

“You all look so different than I thought.” Alastor finally managed to whisper out.

Charlie had honestly expected Alastor to be crying by now, but he seemed to be doing a good job holding it in, he probably didn't want to fuck up the contacts. Alastor's ears were still flat as he cautiously approached Rosie. He seemed to take her in completely before Rosie pulled him into a hug which he returned.

Vox was practically bouncing up and down on his heels. He was clearly very excited and happy for his partner.

“I did try to make glasses at first, but your ears are on top of your head so I went for contacts instead.” Vox explained as Alastor and Rosie separated. “I figured you wouldn't want to wear glasses anyway with your monocle.”

Alastor took everyone in one more time before he grabbed Vox's face, a small squeak escaped his partner before Alastor kissed him gently. Alastor pulled back and rested his head on the side of Vox's head. “Thank you.” He whispered. Alastor and Vox stayed like that for a minute before Alastor pulled back completely and grabbed Vox's hand. “I want to see the rest of Hell!” Alastor sounded so excited. It might have been the most emotion they've ever seen him show.

Emily waved her hands. “Wait! Let me come with you.”

“I want to come as well!” Charlie grabbed Vaggie's hand and pulled her up.

“I think I'm being voluntold.” Vaggie grumbled under her breath.

“Well, come along then! Hell is young and I want to see everything!” Alastor’s ears flicked as he spoke.

Emily appeared in between Charlie and Vaggie and grabbed both their hands, her eyes shining with excitement. “Let’s go!”

Vox laughed a bit as Alastor and Emily dragged them to the door. As they were leaving they could hear Husk mutter, “holy fuck. I think that is the most emotion I've ever seen from that man,” under his breath.
