Work Text:

“Okay! Let's talk about your living lives!” Charlie clapped her hands together as she sat down on the floor. Angel was leaning up against a chair, scrolling through his phone while Vaggie sat next to Charlie with a supportive smile.

Niffty was seated next to Vaggie and Alastor who had Vox in his lap, curled into his body and cuddling up against him while Husk sat beside Angel, making a complete circle for the activity.

So the circle went Charlie, Vaggie, Niffty, Alastor and Vox, Husk, then Angel. Perfection in Charlie's eyes.

“This is stupid.” Angel looked up from his phone. “Why would we want to talk about our lives? Husk was a gambler, Niffty was a maid, Alastor was a radio host who killed people, I was in the mafia and did drugs, and Vox…” Angel trailed off before he looked at Vox with narrowed eyes. “What the fuck did you do?”

“This is exactly why we're talking about your living lives!” Charlie clapped her hands together excitedly. “Sure you guys may have done bad things, but we also want to embrace the good you did too!” Charlie explained. “You guys were more than just that, and you guys get to be a part of my living life while I know next to nothing about yours! I want to know all about the Earth you guys walked on.” Charlie smiled.

“Well, have him start.” Angel pointed three fingers at Vox. “We know nothing about his life.”

Charlie looked warily at Alastor and Vox who were cuddled up together before she let out a nervous laugh. “Vox, would you mind starting?”

Vox moved his head away from Alastor's chest and heaved a heavy sigh. “Sure. What do you want to know?” Vox readjusted himself on Alastor's lap. His hips wiggled around slightly as he tried to get comfortable, a frown on his face as he eventually smacked Alastor's thigh, making him uncross his legs with a loud groan of complaint.

“Well what was your job?” Charlie asked with a warm smile.

“Probably a CEO.” Angel snorted in amusement. “Or something stupid like that.”

“Oh. I was an assassin.” Vox answered immediately with a smug grin casted at Angel, who's mouth dropped in shock.

“What?” Vaggie and Charlie yelled out at the exact same time as Husk yelled out “The fuck you say?”

Alastor seemed a bit shocked as well, his eyes wide and his grip on Vox's waist tightened as he seemed to imagine Vox being in danger constantly.

Niffty was the only one who didn't seem surprised.

“Yeah.” Vox laughed a bit awkwardly. “Finding work as a bisexual trans man was really hard back in the nineteen hundreds, so I ended up having to make do with what I had. I ended up killing a man who tried to… do things to me.” Vox winced as Alastor’s claws dug into his waist. “I wasn't as grossed out as I thought I would be and ended up dealing with the body efficiently and cleaning up the best I could. It was my first murder so it was a pretty sloppy kill and I got blood everywhere, but once I realized people paying to have others killed would care what was in my pants, I decided to get my name out there as an assassin. I did small jobs first and offered cheap prices, but as I got better, the more I charged and the more I would be known.” Vox seemed rather proud of himself as he talked about his life. “I did the best I could do with what I had and I made it work.”

“Did you die while doing a job?” Vaggie seemed really invested in Vox’s story, her one eye wide while Charlie seemed rather disturbed.

“I did, but not because I was murdered.” Vox leaned back into Alastor’s touch and smiled weakly. “I had a really bad seizure while I was out on a job. I fell unconscious and woke up in Hell, with a bunch of exterminists flying around slaughtering hundreds of sinners.” Vox seemed so tired all of a sudden and Alastor wrapped his arms around Vox before he buried his face into his mate’s neck, gently kissing the scar he left on his partner’s shoulder.

“I'm sorry to hear that.” Charlie told Vox, her voice was genuine and she seemed saddened. “I'm sorry you had to turn to murder as a job because no one would accept you for who you are and I'm sorry about how you died.”

Vox waved his hand a bit. “It's okay.” He laughed awkwardly, but his eyes refused to meet anyone else's. “It's… been a while.”

Alastor pulled his head back and stared at everyone in the circle before he sighed. “I'm going back to my room.” He decided, but he had a glint in his eyes. One that read ‘I'm taking Vox with me and I'm going to talk to him.’

“Oh of course! Take care of yourself! You're a host anyway, you don't need to participate.” Charlie laughed awkwardly as she waved bye to her friend.

Not like it mattered, Alastor and Vox were gone before she even finished talking.

Alastor was sitting in their bed while Vox laid on his side beside Alastor. He was hugging a shark shaped plush that he bought recently and Alastor tried not to be jealous of the stuffie.

“Just when I thought I couldn't love you more, you announced that you were a killer.” Alastor hummed as he laid on his side to spook Vox.

Vox looked over his side to stare at Alastor who held a soft look in his eyes. “You like that I was? You know, I probably killed more people than you did.” Vox teased his partner gently.

“I picked such a powerful mate.” Alastor raised his head and leaned in close. “If you did, I would be very impressed and pleased to know just how good of a job I did to pick you.” Alastor's hands ran up and down Vox's side.

Vox smiled, it was weak but much more genuine than the one he gave Charlie. “Good to know you're attracted to me being a cold-blooded killer.”

“You're attracted to one too.” Alastor teased before their lips connected in a gentle kiss.

Vox let his worries melt away in the kiss as he closed his eyes and let his partner lead the kiss.

They were both two fucked up killers. They belonged to one another really.
