All James wanted was to be able to eat his breakfast in peace without Sirius and his little brother having yet another screaming match over Godric knows what.
That’s it. That was the plan.
The plan did not include falling in love with aforementioned little brother while attempting to befriend him as a plot to trick both Black brothers into reconciliation.
In his defense, he doesn’t know what Peter expected to happen. This level of confusion is entirely on-brand for James.
(In which James is not as straight as he thought he was, Pandora is probably a stalker, Peter is definitely a traitor, and Remus is very frustrated. Everyone else is either gay, confused, or both.)
